5/31/11 -- Chilling on the Wonder

Thought I was done with figuring out the excursions and one canceled on us. So this is what we are doing now. We are whale watching with Harv and Marv in Juneau and kayaking with Southeast in Ketchikan. For Skagway, I am planning on booking with DCL the White Pass train going up with the bike ride down but am now wondering if they will actually have it because of snow. If anyone can check excursions online, I would appreciate knowing if it is showing up. If not, another port I will have to figure out.

I am having trouble figuring out where to stay on Monday night that will make it easy to get to the port with out putting out too much money. :confused3

It is so exciting to see how many of us are posting and excited to go. It truly makes it so much more exciting for me. I think I must be excited about the word excited. LOL

We are going to be sailing with all of you. Let me introduce myself. My name is Carol, I go by Alex's Mom on the Boards. Myself, my husband Craig, my son, Alex and my stepson, Mitchell, will be on the Alaskan cruise. We booked two years ago. I am just now getting on the boards for this cruise. We are from Huntsville, Alabama.

I have really enjoyed reading all your posts. It has been very informative. I look forward to getting to know all of you. We are in 8032.

Is anybody doing the Adventures by Disney pre cruise? We are looking into it.

Hi Carol! Welcome aboard.

We went over our excursions tonight and have pretty much narrowed it down to 2 choices per port. *sigh* Wish we could do it all. The pocketbook is smaller than the eyes

Small world, another family from Huntsville. Welcome.

On my last cruise, I saw a guy and said, "you look familiar." Turns out he was one of my clinical instructors from nursing school, about 15 years ago. His daughter wanted to know if he always had to run into former students.

The White Pass Railway & Bike is offered on our cruise, 7:30-noon

Considered Harv & Marv; my sister opted for the larger boat offered by DCL.

We are staying the YWCA Hotel, near the football arena, in a quint room (all single beds) for $131 per night/room. They have singles - quint rooms, including doubles. We'll use the public transportation (Skytrain, buses, Seabus) to get from the airport and around town.

Make it 3!

Laura and Katie are traveling to Tuscaloosa this weekend to look at Alabama.
Now I know to go to the DIS if they have any problems.

Don't tell my Uncle, "Auburn Bob", that Katie is looking at Alabama and does not have a trip to Auburn planned.

Harv and Marv in Juneau is rated #1 by Trip Advisor.

That is sort of the reason I went with Harv and Marv. They have been great to deal with as well. I hope we see a couple of whales but if not I love being on the water.

Found out today I need to get new rain gear. We tried out our "rain" jackets today on a college tour where it poured and mine didn't work out so well. Shopping here I come.

Hello All. I'm sorry but i am not very familiar with the FE tradition. It looks like a great idea, but can some on please explain how it works? ( or direct me to a page/post that does). We are a party of 8 adults and 10 kids ranging from 3- 10 years old, coming from Singapore.

Thank you!

Hi,

We only booked this cruise a couple of nights ago so I just found this thread. Our spring break trip was canceled last minute so we decided to go to Alaska instead! We are so excited to be going!! I read through some of the posts and saw there were FE groups started, so I wondered if there is room to add our family of 4 to one of the groups. Also, we have friends going and I think she might like to do it, so I'd like to add her to the same group (assuming she can get a FE made in time).

Thanks!
Allison

There are several threads on the main cruise page, I am not sure how to post the link but they are usually current ones. To see a lot without scrolling through all the posts I google seached fish extender clip art.

Welcome aboard! Here is a post that explains Fish Extenders: http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=28549569&postcount=61

DisneyFalcon is heading up the rollcall and FE list.

Is anyone doing the Bering Sea Crab Fishermen's tour in Ketchikan? We are booking directly with the company. It starts at 12:30. According to the company, we are scheduled to dock at 12:00 and disembark at 12:10. I've been told the company will have someone there between 12 & 12:30 to escort the group (those who've booked through Disney and those who have not), it's a five minute walk. My question is: I recall Disney disembarking according to excursion times, mainly when we have to tender. Has anyone had a problem disembarking with the early group on a non-Disney excursion?

Thanks,
Linda

We cruised many years back but I don't remember ever having trouble getting off right away because we usually book excursions not through DCL. Not sure if things have changed.

Hi Linda,

We were on one of the Mediterranean cruises last summer and had many excursions booked outside of Disney. We never had any problems getting off on time. I have heard them request that you stay onboard for a couple of hours after docking if you don't have an early excursion, but that is just to avoid congestion getting off and totally voluntary. I wouldn't worry about that at all!

Make it 4! One family in our group is from Huntsville.:)
Disneyfalcon,

I was wondering if you have room for 2 families in a fish extender group for the May 31st cruise? There are 2 kids in each family, each has a 10 year old and a 13 year old. I wasn't able to send you a direct message.

Thanks!

I just found a neat website that has video highlights of many of the excursions. I'm pretty sold on the Takshanuk Mountain Trail 4x4 and the Mendenhall Glacier Float Trip.

We are doing the Bering Sea Crab Fishermen's tour with dinner. We are really excited about this tour as it is listed on tripadvisor as the best thing to do in Ketchikan. We are also great fans of the tv show Deadliest Catch.

Welcome aboard... There are several people on Etsy and Ebay that make FE's. StitchesNBows is a great person on Etsy and Gradysmommy on Ebay and they are both very reasonable and quick. But, we've also seen people use a travel bag. Again, welcome!

Going to have to check out that tour... Love Deadliest Catch!

Absolutely! I'm out of town this weekend so I'll post an updated list when I get back! :)
