Unless I could
a TOP...let's see.

Dancind said:Which brings up another question. Where do you put these rather valuable items while you're diving? Do you leave them on the boat, trusting the driver not to decide to take the good stuff and leave you there? Kevin could probably answer this, but he's gone on pick up duty.

Garry already told me they've only dove for a couple of years- that's the same as Jeff! I meant out there with divers same as himself without a more experienced diver/instructor... not completely alone! LOL

Every diver is responsible for themselves. It is a dangerous sport. The DMs are not life guards. When a diver jumps into the water they need to have the skills necessary to handle an emergency situation for the conditions of that dive. They can not rely on a DM. The DM will try to assist, but they are not responsible for each and every person. Yes, it is nice to have a DM on dives, but everyone must dive within their level of training and experience.
This is one of the top rules of diving.....know your abilities and dive within them. This is why Matt and I dive frequently, to keep our skills up to date.

That's what I was thinking too. Besides the fact that you're trusting them not to leave you too (as you also mentioned)- there's the fact that they can't really say someone else stole your stuff when you're out on a boat and they are the only ones with access to your items. Won't get them many referrals (nada) if you surface to find your money and valuables are missing.Besides, we are on a boat. When I get my tip money I will notice something is missing and it's got to be on the boat.
