Mark and Mary,
Glad you made it to CA safely. My dad and brother went to San Diego on Wednesday to see the USS Midway. Said it was 62 and sunny when they landed. That was about the time we were getting the "heavy snow advisory" warnings. :)

Have a great time!!!!

For those of you that like to go to spas, I stumbled upon spa gift certificates through costco.com. I'm sure you have to have a membership to purchase. Anyway, you can get $100 worth of gift certificates for $80. You can look for a spa in your area that will accept the certificates through spafinder.com. Bruce & I don't usually do Christmas presents but I think I'm going to get him this. He can get an "athletic" massage at a day spa right down the road from us.

Maybe that wasn't such a great deal. I'd have to pay $7.46 in shipping & handling. I initially thought that it said FREE shipping but it said PLUS shipping.

I turned on the computer and saw the headline "Airplane Slides Off Runway in Chicago" and my heart almost stopped! I feel sorry for all involved, but thank heavens it wasn't Mark and Mary!
I hope they are able to say "We made it out just in the nick of time".

I just saw the headline as I turned on the computer and Mark and Mary were my first thoughts. How tragic a 6 yr old was killed...Thoughts and prayers definitely for everyone involved -

Kids are hoping it snows - it's upper 20s here - they see snow on Christmas eve 2004 in Houston and they expect it to happen twice in their lifetimes...

That makes me crazy... s/h of $7.46... if its only a gift certificate, it shouldn't be more than the cost to mail a letter!!!! Even if its oversized and in a nice folder or whatever, $1 or $2 should cover it!!!

That made me giggle! We got the "snow" last year on Christmas day while we were in southern LA. That was the 3rd time in my life that I remember seeing snow in LA. The first was when I was in elementary school, the 2nd was Christmas eve of 1989, then last year. So, tell the kids they've got a few years before it'll snow in TX again!

We seem to get snow every other year here in GA. So, this year we're due!

My thought EXACTLY! Maybe I'll call the store to see if you can purchase there.

No school for DS today. We received 6 inches of snow yesterday and had 35+ mph wind gusts last night. We'll be sweating each snow day that we have to take as we have plane tickets for 5/23. Right now last day of school is 5/22 with 1 snow day. Of course, that day will just be report card pick-up, so we still have a couple of days to spare without missing any school. DH had to get the tractor and loader out to clear the 3 foot drifts from the end of our drive before he could leave for work this morning. Looks like a cookie baking day for DS and me. Wish I was in CA with Mark, Mary and Bear, or better yet, time to move south! Except for this little thing called employment with benefits...

Finally, I am becoming organized.
Bathroom and Kitchen boxes unpacked and (mostly) put up. We have had so many cute, adorable and classic gifts given us over the years, the house turns into a department store, it seems. I have no clue what to give up and weed out.

Wow, that sounds like a lot of work. The only thing I've done to decorate is put up the tree and start using my Christmas oven mitts in the kitchen. Mother Nature has provided all of the outdoor sparkle...;)

Our snow shovel has traveled with us on our moves from Chicago to Houston and then up to Canada and back...It makes a great dustpan in the garage!!!

Flight 1248 from Baltimore touched down around 7:15 p.m. Though the airport had about 7 inches of snow, aviation officials said conditions at the time were acceptable.

WOW. Mark and Mary left Chicago aaround 7:00. This happened at 7:15. Thankfully there was no trouble with their flight. :)

First class for Bear......Way to go Bear!!!:rotfl:

Sorry - front of coach. Poor Jim is always trying to get Bear to fly first class but I keep telling him Bears parents are poor. :)

Opps - this is Mary typing on Mark's account.

That was the first thing we saw on the news when we checked into the hotel. Very tragic. The accident happened at Midway which is on the South Side of the city and the smaller of the airports. We flew out of O'Hare. Just glad we made it out when we did. My FIL said Chicago got 10 inches!

Mark and Mary - glad that you made it safely.

I made it home around 9pm last night - We were delayed coming out of Charlotte - no flight crew.

I really enjoyed the quick trip to Phoenix - needed to get the information on the ED information system - and I really enjoyed seeing Stacey and her family. Didn't realize they had a thrill ride near them (Jordan driving home with me riding shotgun)... Jim- sorry you missed that experience...:rotfl:

It was a great time - even though it was quite cold at night!

Back to work!

Mark & Mary....so glad you made it safely...now go out there and have some fun for all of us!!
And I agree, John Wayne airport is the only way to go anymore. You couldn't pay me enough to go to LAX.

I hadn't read that a child died as a result of the airplane incident yesterday...how horrible!

Virgil, glad you made it home safely, too. Thanks for the "diagnosis". LOL

I stayed up late last night and read the cutest book. It's about a couple's first cruise, for their 25th anniversary. It's written by "chesterh"....a regular poster at Cruise Critic. It's title: "What Time Is the Midnight Buffet"

Coming home from Vegas last weekend, I popped my head into the cockpit and told the pilot that I was just making sure we had the "best" pilot. He came right back with "Yep...just got my license today". :rotfl: That was reassuring!
Don't know if he was one of the best, but he WAS one of the best LOOKING I'd seen in a while. Jay asked him if his nickname was "Splash"....and I spoke before I thought (common for me) and said "No, it's Crash" ..... lucky they didn't send the Air Marshal after me! :sad2:
