(Hi Matt are you lurking? Important post coming?)

You are kidding, right? It's Monday morning at 9:15 am. Do you really expect Matt to be up lurking at this time of the morning? :rotfl:

He will be up soon because it's Labor Day!

If you want that much Caribbean diving you should say "LIVEABOARD". Cheaper and more dives.
You don't have to sell me!! I KNOW!!

But you see, there is another in the family that doesn't dive and we feel she should have a good time too......... :grouphug:

See if you can sell her on a liveaboard!! :rotfl2:

Happy Labor Day! We worked around the house for the last 2 days, so I think I am going to go shopping today. Working on redoing the guest bathroom, need a few more things.

Dale got back home safely after a youth mission trip to Juarez this weekend. El Paso got its first flights of families from the New Orleans area.

Oh well, no real news here.

Glad to hear that everyone had a great time at WDW the last couple of days. I've been trying to stay away from the TV and the news coverage of Katrina. I especially want to stay away from the CB and all that is being said there. The stories just seem to get worse. I can't imagine going through what all of those people went through, especially the ones stuck in the Superdome.

It's so very dry here in Central Illinois. Our well is very shallow, and we had to put a tank of water (about 450 gallons) on Friday and again yesterday. Usually the well bounces back the next day, but the water table must really be low, and there's no rain in the 10-day forecast. It didn't help that our DD from Kentucky was home for the weekend. It's amazing how much more water we use with one extra person. She did very well learning to drive the 5-speed, and has already left to go back home, hoping to avoid the holiday traffic.

Hope everyone has a great Labor Day holiday.

Happy Labor Day!!!!

Glad everyone had a good time over the weekend at WDW "doing laundry", which I don't fully understand. Must've missed that post.

Anyway, weather is beee-u-tiful in NY. No more humidity, just nice dry air. Today's high is only supposed to be around 76. I'll take it. My time of the year is coming....fall. Ahhhh, the leaves change, the air is crisp and you have to wear different clothes. Gets a little boring wearing shorts and Ts all summer.

We will be working on the house today. The dumpster gets picked up tomorrow, so we have to get all our junk in there. Rip up the old carpeting, put scraps from vinyl siding, etc. We bought a kitchen table and chairs last night(round pedestal w/ 4 chairs) and pretty much picked out a new TV and living room set(couch, love seat, and chair). Pretty productive. Even got to go out with DH for dinner. Kids stayed home with sitter. Speaking of TV, do any of you have any wisdom as to the new TVs out there? We don't want a plasma, due to the shortened lifespan and ours is usually on a lot during the day. We were looking at the 42" widescreen LCD projection HDTV. Can anyone shed some light on this? It had a beautiful picture and we really liked it, but want to make sure we're getting the right one for us. We have DirecTV. Do we have to get a new dish? One salesman said yes, another didn't say anything. All your help is appreciated. Thanks.

Well, gotta go now. It's 10:30 and need to get started around the house. It is Labor Day.

TTFN,
Maria

Maria - best to research on the net. One of the best places is www.avsforum.com. They have all kinds of discussions about TVs and such. It really depends on what you are looking for. There is a lot of misinformation about Plasmas out there - the most common misconception is about how long it will last. Unfortunately a lot of brick and mortar salesmen (as opposed to internet stores) are not that informed. Best to see a TV in person - and then find the cheapest reliable spot and order it online.

You don't have to get a new DirecTV antenna, unless you want to get HD channels - and then you'd need an HD receiver too. There really is a difference in picture quality between standard definition (SD) and high Definition (HD).

I've been looking at a new TV - and doing a great deal of research - I like the new Samsung models the best. They come in 720p or 1080p versions (has to do with how many pixels...... hard to explain - better explained at the above links). It all depends on how much you want to spend. PM me with any questions.

Large screen TV discussion is not fluff. No PMing on that topic. Let's all learn! Maybe there is something better out there for me! ;)

I agree with Virgil. There is a ton of info on the different types of TV on the net.
We have had a HDTV, rear projection 53" Pioneer for several years now and like it quite well. If I had to do it over again, I would look at the DLP units. Amazing color and resolution!
Plasma don't work well in the higher altitudes (kind of like my DW), they buzz! I've heard someone say, that once you go to a large screen TV, you won't go back, and I concur!! I thought the 53" was a bit to big, but now I could go for a bigger unit easily.

Taken from a website:
They are direct view, rear projection, front projection and flat panel which can be further divided by the types of technology they employ.

Direct view televisions are based on CRT (Cathode Ray tube technology) and is the type of televisions that we've been used to for the last fifty years. These televisions range in screen sizes from just a few inches up to 40 inches.
Rear projection televisions (RPTV) or "big screen tv's" generally use analog CRT's but more recently consumer electronics companies have introduced digital rear projection televisions. These digital rear projectors employ LCD, DLP or LCosS based technology. The screen size for rear projection televisions typically range from 40 to 70 inches. CRT based sets tend to be much cheaper than the newer technologies but are usually much bulkier and heavier.
Front Projectors are normally found in offices but special home theatre projectors are available and are great for replicating the movie theatre experience. These projectors employ LCD or DLP technology. The benefits of front projectors are that they are small and can project images that range from 30 inches to over 100 inches! The downside is front projectors can be very expensive and require big expensive screens to get a high quality picture.

Flat Panel is the newest type of high tech television. Flat panels fall into two categories: LCD and Plasma. Flat panels are generally slim (only a few inches deep) and very attractive. The downside is that they are expensive and to date really haven't been able to reproduce picture quality as high as a far cheaper CRT based set. LCD's are commonly much smaller than plasma's and make great sets for kitchens or rooms where space is at a premium.

Well, as I still miss the 24"....we "moved up to a 25 flat screen". I am quite sure you do not want my advice.

Just received my confirmation package!!! Just my "bunch" this trip....DH (50), DD (14), DS (10) and ME (42). I am soo excited!! :moped: :moped: :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

This is our second cruise...the first was only 4 days (waay too short)!

Sharon and I respectfully disagree with that assessment.
