To be honest, Sue, I was the only one enthused about it. Alicia likes warm water to dive in, and Kevin just really likes diving in the Caribbean. So I guess if it ain't broke, don't fix it!

I wonder if this is the beginning of another 'girls' trip?

Good morning all..... Hope that the DVC cruisers have a safe trip to the port and a wonderful time...

I was at our local airport until 2am last night - we received 3 planeloads of evacuees. I can't put in words how I felt - these people got off the plane with little besides the clothes on their back. They definitely had the "thousand mile" stare (despair, no hope, etc.) They had flown 3-4 hours on a C-130 (4 engine military propeller plane). Most were in good health - we transported 2 to my ER. One was a grandmother with her 13 year old grandson. The hospital has adopted the grandson - very well spoken, wants to be a pediatrician. I know that it is culture shock - as all of the evacuees are african american - and nearly all of the medical teams, etc. are white (I think that the african american population in WV is around 3%). In the end though, we are all American. At times - we all had to laugh at the differences in our "Southern" language - we had to ask each other to repeat things on occasion. Throw a few Northerners (like me) into the mix and it was quite interesting. They are being taken to Camp Dawson which is in the Northern part of WV - in the mountains - beautiful country, but a million miles away from New Orleans.

I spoke to one man - he said he had never been out of Louisiana, said he always wanted to visit other places, including WV, just never like this. Children coming off the plane received a back pack full of toys, coloring books, etc. They brightened up immediately - ahhh the resilience of children.

If you haven't donated to the Red Cross - or the relief organization of your choice - do so now. There are many needs that need met - and it will be months before what we consider any sort of normalcy will return to the lives of our fellow Americans.

I made that mistake the other day... hadn't been to the CB in awhile, and won't be going back any time soon!!! I refuse to buy into the whole political mess of this thing... now is not the time for politics- its the time to help people.

Thanks so much for all that you are doing to help, Virgil. I'm sure those people were so happy to see a friendly, caring face after their ordeal.

What a great thing you are doing. I can't believe it, but as far as it is from New Orleans to El Paso, we are going to have about 700 people brought in here. They already have the 700 beds set up in the convention center, just waiting to see when they get here. They too are flying in on military aircraft and there has been some kind of mixup with the flights.

Thank you to you and so many others like you that are assisting in this time of need.

We went to Mass this morning. There was a priest that is staying out our parish. He and his family are certain that they have lost everything. We had a special collection today to be sent to Catholic Charities. Instead of a collection basket, milk jugs were used instead. I was overwhelmed to see how full they were.

I've had people contacting me that know that I am originally from LA. The outreach is amazing. We've been able to collect clothing for some that we know that have nothing left. While our immediate family and many others that we know seem to have been spared, there are so many others that weren't. Thank you to everyone out there that is helping in any way you can.

Many of those people are in shock. My BIL's wife's sister has lost everything. According to her family, she is not thinking clearly and acting in her normal manner. Hopefully she'll come to peace with what has happened and start to move on.

Virgil, I had to chuckle a little. Does that mean that you won't be able to understand me when we finally meet on the cruise???? Although I think I've lost most of my accent ... most people wouldn't guess I'm from Cajun country.

I doubt I'll have any problem - it was just the thick Creole twang that got us - only a few had it.... but boy did they ever have it.....

On tv the other night, they showed a fellow from Phoenix who had just come back from N.O. and he brought four young men with him who lost their homes and couldn't find their families. We haven't heard any more about how they are doing......

Virgil definitely has a "twang"...and so does his DW. But I love to listen to other people's accents.
When we were at the Beach Club, we were talking to Art The Greeter, and another guy that we called the Admiral. I told them I was from Arizona, and the Admiral said "Yes, but where are you from originally?" He said I had an accent. I told him Nebraska and he said "I thought it was the Midwest". Ha, I didn't think we had an accent!
Well.....what a lovely mess we have on our road. Lots of debris, mud, etc. There is a wall of sand and mud in the creek that's as tall (at least) as my Yukon. I walked down just now, Jay's down there pulling tree branches out, and there's a guy with a backhoe (don't know who called him) making a path through the mud and sand. I always wonder where our other neighbors are when Jay is down there moving rocks and trees. NONE of them ever help....ever. The last time WE hired the backhoe, they didn't help pay for it either....so, whoever called this guy won't be seeing any money from us....
Ahh....neighborly love.....

Well.....our cruising friends are eating GREAT BIG SHRIMP right now!!! I hope they have tons and tons of fun!!!

Wow, Stacey, looks like a mess. Sounds like you might get out soon, though.

Kevin and I went to the Bernallillo Wine Festival today for the first time, it's been going on for years. It was fun, we found a couple of unusual wines that we liked, and Kevin found a port he liked. We pretty quickly decided not to try any more "serious" wines from NM, and stuck to the unusual stuff. He's probably typing about this right now too.

Anyway, we decided to bring a bottle of New Mexico Pinon wine for the cruise. It's not too bad, who wants a taste?

Yes....and the water that's running down the creek right now is muddy. It wouldn't have flooded like it did (at least not that bad) if there had been some vegetation.
I'm still in awe of the mess it made. The pictures really can't show what it looks like down there. It's hard to even imagine how bad it is for New Orleans....I guess about 2000 times what mess we've got...and THEN some!
