ABSOLUTELY..... All things Disney = all things good!!!!!!!!!! :cloud9:

With one exception....my DISNEY Visa. Whenever I get something from then it's usually NOT good! :rotfl2:

Ya know what I'm thinking is really ironic....

This thread is talking all about learning styles, IEPs, 504's, homework, teachers and helping our children be the best they can be....

Whereas my homeschool board is thick into a discussion of Disney, how to tour it, when to go, what passes to get, and what resort to book!! :rotfl2:

VERY IRONIC! Thank for the laugh! Sorry I did not mean to hijack the thread....I just am at my wits end and I really appreciate EVERYONEs input!

OK...hmm about the IEP/504 plan....I have never heard of it? I will have to go googling this morning. Like i said, she is not incapable of doing the work. She is very bright. I think part of the problem, is that her classroom is experimenting a new system this year, and that is having 2 teachers. One in the AM's and one in the afternoons....Hers is the only 3rd grade class doing that? I am not so sure this is the best situation for her. But then again, with her innattentiveness, a new teacher in the afternoons mabe good for her? I am going to go to the school on Tuesday to talk with one of the teachers. I will be armed with all this information from yall. Please keep it coming. It really helps to know that others have gone thru this and have survived!

Young ones like Taylor do better in a highly structured environment. As in, we do this at this time, and we always turn this in at this time. So yeah, sounds like an argument for moving her. However, kids like this take time to adjust to a new situation. Could be that Taylor is still adjusting?

. If she tells me she has homework, I demand that she does it soon after getting home from school. But I no longer have to sit there and WATCH her do it, like I did when she was younger. That's progress, right?
YES! That is all I am asking for! :flower:

OM, they must worship you on that board! You know all the answers! That would be kind of fun, until you find yourself answering the same questions over and over again.

Actually, a couple of others have come out of the woodwork. One lives in FL, and I knew she had DVC. She and I pretty much see eye to eye on everything Disney (DVC, off-peak, DDE, AP's, etc) She and I do NOT see everything eye to eye when it comes to homeschooling (she's a freak, I'm not) HA HA HA! So it's been good to talk back and forth with her about Disney. Typically, a lot of homeschoolers do not have the funds to go to Disney as frequently as we do. Some can only swing every few years. So I have to look at that and temper my responses. I can't really say "oh, you should go for 3 weeks and stay in the Grand Floridian!!" ;)

Let me clarify the bribery plan a little bit.

When KT was about 3 I told Mike that our lives have turned into nothing but bribes, lies and threats....

If you eat your dinner you can have dessert.

If you don't eat your dinner you won't grow up.

Eat your dinner or you'll go to bed hungry!

(sigh)

KT is 11 now and it's often times the same way! And now we have the joy of bribing, lying and threatening Nick to0! ;)

If her doctor gave her meds, you would think that would prove to the school that's she has been diagnosed. But for some reason, it doesn't. Ask her doctor to put it in writing that she has ADD and needs accommodation in school, then take that to the school and ask for a "support meeting".

And, from what Mike has told me, you really need to be firm with the schools. Use the broken record technique...just keep saying over and over what you expect :)

He deals with schools all the time that aren't doing what schools should be doing. Seems he's got several teachers and principles in the school system who are on real power trips...as if THEY know what's better for the kids than the parents do (actually, in some cases this is probably true, but that's a whole 'nuther can of worms!)

It's so natural now, I don't think we even notice it anymore. But Jim should chime in about some of his bribery techniques. He's got some good ones, though I think some of them are more for him (like a certain diving trip to the Great Barrier Reef).

NO NO NO....You are NOT hijacking it at all!! I just thought it was ironic that my two boards have flip flopped. We are MORE than fluff here. We are nearly family! And, as you've seen, you've gotten great advice from ppl you trust!! Google all you want, but you'll take heart in knowing your FRIENDS have been through this and care!!

Well good news and bad news....

Bad news is our friends had to cancel tonight. He's going to school (in addition to working full time and having two little kids) and he has to read two books this weekend and make a genogram (a VERY interesting thing...ever hear of it?)

So the good news is I don't have to clean my house as thoroughly!! Of course, it still needs a once over, but I'm not getting in every crack.

I think the original plan of Cappy's pizza is going to stick though! Sorry, Virgil!

Heck for that even *** I *** would be good! :rotfl2:

Like the Principal that took me in her office when Alicia was in third grade and told me I was a bad mother because I wasn't allowing my daughter to "learn to deal with difficult people"? This was a new principal, and I was telling her my daughter needed to be moved to another class, she had been assigned to a screamer. After it took a year for her to recover from having a screamer for six weeks in first grade. I don't remember how I did it, but she did get moved, and her third grade teacher was the best one she ever had. But yes, it was really interesting while that Principal was there.

Diana, in general would say things have gotten easier for the both of you?

Since your already gewtting somethings bad from Disney, no need for us both to get it right? I would like to send mine to you from now on okay??:cool1:

Just had to add, that amazing 3rd grade teacher was all about rewards. She had a great system, and Alicia did everything that teacher asked, and then some. One thing I remember, she set up a tent in the middle of the classroom. If the kids met certain criteria, they got to go into the tent and read. Worked like a charm. OM, do you have a tent? Might not work so good with only two kids I guess.

I can now guarantee you that I won't be using the Treo for any lengthy DIS-ing...those buttons and the screen are sooooo small! But it is pretty nifty.

Still haven't managed to sign into my mailbox...but I'll get there.
I'm thinking that once I get used to it, I may be hooked!! (Thanks, Virgil! :sad2: )

Good night everyone!

Good morning, Jim! :sunny:

Stacey
I can already tell ya that I dont like this Treo..it is cutting in WAY to much on your DIS time!:rotfl:

In the immortal words of Snape, "Vigilance"! Easier in some ways, harder in others. She's a teen, you know.

Sure, just enclose the check to pay it off and I'll have no problem sending it in for you. Of course, there is a $350 service charge for me to do that!
