My post count is going down by the day. Since the accident last week, I have spent just about every waking minute working on the benefit for Matt and his family. I think my constant busy-ness is the only thing that is keeping me sane right now- I haven't stopped to think about how devastated I am by the whole thing. Those of you who are praying... PLEASE continue to do so!! I wish I could just scoop up his 3 yr old son and take him with us to Epcot this weekend... its his birthday... but he's only met me a few times- I'm sure he wouldn't want to spend the day with 'strangers', and doubt his mother would just let him go with us anyway! But wouldn't it be so much fun for him!!!

What is the latest - I don't recall an update!!! What the heck - you can ask his Mother - all she can say is no, and that is where you are now...I mean, it may be a strange idea, but she may feel good -just for the offer.....

Yesterday - I had my own tribulations at work, and have nt seen the news on TV. Will go watch now.....Continued prayers and more.

Karen,

Please give us an update. With all that is going on, I completely forgot about the stress in your life. Please forgive me. Will continue to pray for your co-worker and family too.

No more real news this morning other than as we watch the damage in LA/MS, things aren't going to be good. We still have not be able to get in touch with DH's mom and haven't seen any pictures out of where she lives. As I read more and see more pictures, I realize that every family member and friend that lives in the New Orleans metro area and MS gulf coast is impacted by this horrible storm. No one has been spared.

Karen,

Please give us an update.

Matt is still being kept heavily sedated. The pressure levels in his brain are within the range that the MD's want them to be right now, however, he has developed a staph infection in his lungs and pneumonia as well. This is on top of the punctured lungs, damaged liver & kidney, broken vertebra, broken eye socket, and broken ribs- none of which can be treated until the brain swelling subsides. They are going to do a trach today (I think) to keep him more comfortable (how's that for an oxymoron) and reduce throat & vocal cord damage. It is still minute-to-minute at this point. His dad has set up a website tracking his progress... its matthewgodwin.com.

Thanks for your concern and prayers. With the closeness of our company, its as if its my own family member going through this.

No good news this morning. Kiki and Ang, still praying for your friends and family.

Not to sound selfish, but this storm is going to affect the whole country. They're saying that not only are prices at the gas pump going up, but heating our homes this winter is going to be killer. Then people tighten their belts, and that affects the whole ecomony. Hard to believe we haven't hit the peak of hurricane season yet.

Prayers are going out to everyone worried about their families on the Gulf Coast.

DH's brother, wife and baby are headed our way. Without knowing when they'd be allowed back in to Slidell, they decided to head here for an undetermined amount of time. We're glad to have them. Their mom finally got in touch. They're safe in Pensacola. They have been trying to get in touch with their next door neighbors who decided to ride out the storm. We pray for their safety.

I've resorted to looking up phone numbers on the internet. I'm trying to find info about a friend. Her parents and brother live in Katy, TX so I'm trying to figure out how to get in touch. I only had 4 hits on that name in Katy. You would think that in this day and age, everyone has an answering machine but at 2 of the 4 there was no answer after 10 rings.

That's good news! The reports are coming in here too. Everyone is happy that the area didn't get hit harder, but there is still tremendous damage and flooding. This will take a lot of time to get cleaned up.

Angie, continued prayers for your family. The footage today looks horrible. I can't even imagine.

Karen, I've been following Matt's website. It is true, the trach will make him more comfortable. Tubes down your throat aren't comfortable and ppl will "fight" them more...plus, long term tubes like that do cause vocal cord damage and a trach will not. Another good thing is that it is a lot easier to breathe for them....there is a lot less resistance in a trach than in that long tube. All in all, if docs think a patient is going to be on support for awhile, a trach is definitely the way to go. Still praying for Matt and everyone too.

And, btw, I think you could offer to take the son to WDW. Might be a good distraction for him. I'm sure his life is upside down right now. As someone said, the family has the option of saying no. But they might really appreciate someone offering. :)

We will take good news, person by person, and family by family as the news looks worse now that the dike has broken....Support, prayers and money are needed for our brethern in the gulf!

I can't imagine how sad this devastation is. I am not going to complain about the fix-it-up costs to my home, at least I have one and I know where my loved ones are.

That's what I thought, too. I have no medical background, but have been through a very similar situation with a friend before.

I will... just not this weekend- its already chaotic with meeting for lunch, meeting Amanda later, trying to fit a day in with the move being only a week away (if that...). I am going to go see his wife tomorrow night at the hospital, and ask her if I can take him to MK some day soon. (I'm sure he'll like that better than Epcot- he'll be 3 next week). Having AP's, I can go any time.

CHANGE OF PLANS CHANGE OF PLANS
Irene, please dont shoot me but now ALL the kids are coming with me next weekend. So I will be a party of 5! If that is a problem let me know

Executive Decision - looking for input -- we had 6 adults - 3 kids 1 highchair kid.

But Patty said I had her down for 2 adults - 2 kids and one Scoopie and she only has 2 adults and 1 kid (and one Scoopie)

So we really, with all your kids are at 6 adults - 4 kids 1 highchair kid

My thought is just to show up and say we added an extra kid at the last moment......Rather than calling now and then they say that they cannot accomodate.

All agree????? I will be glad to do what the group wants, but we are really only one kid off....(is that even good English - oh-well)

PS - No shooting allowed....

Yes... remember, its always easier to beg forgiveness than ask permission!

Can't wait to meet you guys this Sunday. I know Kelly can't wait to meet Lisa. :wave2:
