Wow, that is pretty rough. When ever I read or hear what parents say to their kids I always wonder what I have done to mine. It is amazing that any of us live a normal life. I'm always amazed that mine seem to be turning out as well as they are. It must be ScubaMom (as OhioMinnie will agree too!)

Does she really think that I dont know that I am fat? I need to told how amazed she is at how fat I am??? Way to go mom..thanks for the shot of confidence in my already too low self esteem

I find that usually when people are unkind to others, it is because they are not happy with something in their own life.

Now........think happy thought! It's Friday...........and another week closer to the cruise!

I'm sorry, Amanda :grouphug: - It always amazes me that mothers know exactly which buttons to push and now, they can do it via e-mail where they don't have to see the effects of their words...Kinda cowardly, I think...(Spoken from experience - I usually yell, scream, and then hit DELETE with relish!)

I know exactly how you feel, Amanda. I grew up hearing that from my mother all the time (you'd be so pretty if you only lost weight). Well, after a small bit of therapy, and a husband that loves me for who I am, I'm pretty much over it. This may sound really harsh, but my mom is dead, now, so I don't have to ever hear it again. Hugs from all of us who know that 'size doesn't matter'. My 2 DD's are both as heavy as I am, and I make an effort to never mention anything to them about it, just tell them I love them.

No. You've got really good kids and I can tell it's BOTH of you. They respect both of you and obey both of you....so therefore it isn't just one parent that's doing a good job and one who isn't.

Pat on the back....you're a good parent.

Of course, you'd be a better one if you could get your kids to Boma on Sept 11th! ;)

Well I was in a fairly good mood. Then SHE (my mother) struck...I just got the following sentence in an email from her. I am so hurt and sad right now.

Wow! Mouth dropping open here. I'd say maybe it just sounded bad b/c it was in email and taken wrong, but no....there is no "nice" way to say that! Did you reply to her and let her know how much that hurt?

My mom mentions my weight here and there....but never that harshly. And I know where she's coming from b/c I have a bad bad family history of heart disease and she has Type II diabetes...so she's just trying to be protective.

My dad mentioned my weight once....(he's a smart alek---one with a pretty big gut) I glared at him and said "you know why I look like this??? Because I bore you two beautiful grandchildren....what's your excuse?" ;) We both cracked up, but then again, that's how the two of us are with each other and I expect that kinda off handed stuff from him.

Thanks guys believe it or not, I am still pretty upset about it. I have been tearing up ever since I got that from her. I just cant imagine EVER saying that to my DD. I love me DD for who she is, not her appearance (all my kids for that matter).....I dont even feel like eating..I guess I should get her to send me a thought like that every day, and pretty soon I will be skinny....I am still shaking my head at this one guys and it hurts and it hurts hard....I a not normally one to wallow in self pity, but I just cant believe how this is making me feel.

Amanda... ... don't let her get to you... you're goin' to DISNEY WORLD!!!!!!

My response to your mother would be the same as the old bumper sticker...
"I may be fat, but you're ugly, and at least I can DIET."

I love my Mom & Dad... and really ache for friends of mine who don't have good relationships with their parents. (Actually, every time I talk to my parents, their 'winter visit' plans get longer and longer... now they're arriving in mid-December, and possibly staying til I get back from New Orleans in mid-March!!!! )

Hey... I just listened to that today!

Good morning Cruisers!
We sail in 41 weeks!

Woo Hoo - Another week closer to cruising!

Good morning all!

Watched the Earth, Wind & Fire and Chicago concert on HDTV last night. I bet that WAS one good concert.

DH got the 3rd coat of red on the walls last night. Haven't gone in the dining room to check it yet. I came straight to DIS instead! He's already gone out running. Furniture is being delivered today so hopefully we don't need any more coats of paint.

Amanda, sorry for your mom's harsh words. I hope you're feeling better this morning. I have always thought that if someone didn't like me for how I looked than I didn't need to be friends with them. Easier said with friend than family.

Happy Saturday everyone...

Just checked the forecast map for Hurricane Katrina. Looks like I better get on the horn to parents and in-laws to see what they're doing. Couldn't believe that now they're saying a Cat 4 by landfall in LA/MS. Actually looks like it'll be going ashore EXACTLY where my parents live. Will have to go watch the weather now.

Good Morning - Amanda - That stinks! My Mom can say the most cutting, unkind things to me. And she lives with me!!!!!!! Makes you wonder why something so mean would come from someone who loves you.
