A little spoiled....I am watching NASA TV in real player on my office computer - while talking to Dis Buddies. Presently the focus is on a van that is taking the astronauts - I presume - to the Shuttle.

DH and I grew up in Florida and I am excited at every launch. Wish I were closer.

God Speed! :sunny: :sunny:
That piqued my curiosity! Please share the link!

A new side of Virgil! I have some sewing that needs done. Can I send it your way so you have something to do between patients? :flower:

I would bet his stitches are a lot neater than mine! I didn't go through years of schooling to learn how to do nice stitches........

Ok, I've got a weight loss program for you. Have surgery like me! :rotfl2: I started reading a book last night on scoliosis surgery. I was worried that having to be somewhat sedentary after surgery would cause me to put on the lbs. but now I'm reading that having surgery will likely cause you to lose weight.

Angie

I obviously missed something here....you're having back surgery? Goodness.....I'm sorry...but I guess it is a good thing. When? LOTS of prayers & Pixie Dust!

I heard on the radio that we would be able to see "something" if the skies are clear. But, they're not. Looking cloudy & dreary for us again today.

I was able to "see" a launch years ago from a hotel parking lot in Melbourne. I happened to be there for a conference. It was the early morning hours ... 6 a.m. or so. DH used to work for a gov't contractor years ago & got to work a few launches.

Good point! He probably does that hand-stitching MUCH better than the rest of us!

We have the NASA station as part of direct TV and they are running a live feed. I wouldn't have thought about it until I read Irene's post.

Thanks for the concern Stacey. I think I posted earlier in the year that I'd probably have to have back surgery. I scheduled the surgery for Oct. 11. So, I'll need LOTS of prayers & pixie dust that I'll be on my feet & well enough to cruise in May 06! This cruise will be my incentive!!! The nurse said that I should be ok - just no horseback riding, parasailing, etc. on excursion. No big deal. I hadn't planned on doing those things anyway since we have little ones. This will just be a relaxing cruise for us.

Angie - prayer and pixie dust are powerful things and we will shower you with them on surgery day and after! You will do fine and will be ready for a relaxing cruise. What better cruise to relax on then one that goes to CC twice! Heaven on earth in my opinion.

Why do ballet slippers require you to sew on the elastic - I mean we pay enough for them.... I'm the one that always has to sew them on the night before the recital....:confused3

Doesn't make sense to me!!!!!

Well, they're supposed to fit snugly, so they don't trip over their own feet, and you can see their feet point. So you have to custom fit them. I do think you can buy them pre-sewn though. Just wait until you get to pointe shoes. That's sewing elastic AND ribbons. I always poke myself sewing those.

Mary, you are so right! Thanks for the well-wishes too. I'm sure I'll drop off the face of the earth from mid-late Oct. but hopefully when I'm home recouping, I'll find the strength to DIS! :flower: Too bad we don't have a wireless network so I could sit in bed with my work laptop & DIS to my heart's content.

But, in the meantime, I'll get lots of DIS'ing in. Shouldn't I be doing work now???

So, they aren't made like the Wal-mart ones for little kids??? The ones that Emily has have a string running around the opening. Does that make sense? So, you can just pull the string as tight as you want then tie in a bow in the front. Of course, they have to tuck the bow in so that's not all that comfortable. But, it works for her skinny feet.

Oh. The other night Ashley, she's not yet 3, tells Bruce "sign me up for dance." After seeing Emily in her recital this year, she keeps asking when it's going to be her turn to dance on the big stage! So, I guess in Sept. we'll be enrolling her in dance. The age limit says 3 but she's potty trained so they should take her.

On our flight down in June there was a young girl flying down to Orlando for a 5 week run in a ballet. She spent about 1/2 the flight sewing up her pointe shoes.

Ang....we'll take care of you on the cruise....we'll found you a lounge chair, bring you a drink.....;)

The older girl's shoes still have the lace that runs around the top and ties....but it isn't enough and those come untied easily. Jordan's studio ordered her a pair the last time and they came with the elastic pre-sewn (or is that SUTURED??) but they were too loose. You have to fit the elastic.

Alicia was a dance school drop out at age 3, so I don't remember what the shoes were like. She informed me when she was 7 that she wanted to take a "jazz dance class". I think she was just bored in the little kid class, once she started at 7 there was no stopping her!

Sounds like Ashley will do great! That's so sweet. Some kids are just born ready to perform, sounds like you've got one. It's not a bad thing, you know, ballet makes them very strong.

Angie, it's not that hard to get the wireless network set up. You need the modem and the wireless network card for your laptop. Lots of time to work on it!

We were talking about it last night. We have the modem, but I don't see DD letting me use her laptop whenever I want.

This really is a CRUISE related question -

Is there a good site to go to - to grab a wallpaper of the MAGIC? Thanks. :wave2:

I did try having Alicia sew her own, a couple of pairs ago. First time she wore them, the ribbons came off. I'll be trying again, though, it hurts my fingers.
