The news here has been constant...they say that the fire should go to the Northeast of us...but I can see more flames rising and they are on our side of the hill/mountain.
We will make our decision about going out of town in the morning, when we can get a better idea of how the fire is being handled.
12,000 acres so far. 500 homes evacuated.
I've packed as much as I can for now.

Stacey - If you need anything please call and let us know.....

Definitely in our thoughts and prayers....

I'll be up all night as I'm working....

The kids and I are still up. We can't seem to stop watching. It looks like it may be falling back over to the far side of the mountain, but then we'll see flare ups. This is the worst thing about living in the desert. It did rain over our house for about 5-10 minutes....I prayed that it holds its strength and keeps moving north. The firefighters need all the help they can get.

We went into Cave Creek earlier tonight, and I've never seen so many deputies, Firefighters, Forest Service, and National Guardsmen. Plus all the TV vans. Some of the Forest Service's top guys were at Dairy Queen and I heard them on their cell phones. One was calling for back up from Payson. That's quite a ways from here. That same fellow was on TV later tonight.

So we watched this show on cable about the trauma center in Las Vegas. Probably not what we needed to watch. I told Jay they couldn't pay me enough to do Virgil's job.......

If we do leave tomorrow, we're going to take what we packed up over the the shop....we have a basement there...all concrete and block.
Jordan wanted to know if she could take her dance shoes over there. That's dedication for you.
Jared made me close the blinds in the living room, so that he couldn't see the lightning from his bedroom. The lightning is what started the fires, and he doesn't like storms, anyway. Poor kid....what a way to start your birthday.
He turns 12 today.....(the 23rd)

Thanks, Virgil. Guess I'll go to bed. Not much else I can do for now. The longer I stay up, the more my pile grows with things to take to the shop.
I'm just short of taking pictures off the walls. :sad1:
I did make a video tape of everything in the house. I've been needing to do that for a long time.
I'm glad I sent a copy of almost every photo we've ever taken, to my Mom and Dad.
The recent ones were easy to grab...they're on disk....
Okay, I'm obsessing and jabbering....going to go lay down at least.
Let you know what things are like in the morning.

Stacey - glad things are better.....

Happy Birthday Jared!!!

It's interesting how that whole "who's in town, cause it's raining" thing has turned around on Jim, isn't? :confused3 Weird thing is, I think he started it :rotfl2:

Right now it is everyone in the State of Florida. It's rainy season and over the past few years we have forgotten what that means. This year we are making up for it. Everybody is getting rained on. At least they won't be cancelling the July 4th race because of fires.

Stacey,

Hope you're sleeping as I'm writing this. Sounds like you need it. Our prayers are with you and all those who lost their homes or were evacuated. Fire is a scarey thing. I don't particularly like it. It has a mind of its own. Please keep us posted and if you need anything, let me know. It doesn't help that I'm all the way in NY, but please know we're praying for you all.

Maria

Stacey, our thoughts are with you. We have been through the forest fire routine and it is tough. Just remember to be safe. That is the most important.

We will try to send some of our rain your way! :teleport: :umbrella:

You beat me to it. That's EXACTLY what I was thinking.

Asking for prayers tonight and in the next day or two. There is a fire burning called the Cave Creek Complex fire. This is the closest fire that we have ever seen to our house. The flames are on the ridge of the nearest mountain.....we have several friends who are in the evacuation center (my kids' middle school) now, and have probably lost their homes. We are supposed to leave town tomorrow.....we may, we may not. Jay is at a Town Meeting right now, I've been packing pictures, videos and jewelry....

Please, pray for our friends here. I'll keep you posted.

Stacey - Prayers are coming your way - We'd send some or our rain if we could. I just woke up and searched the thread for your first message - :grouphug: ugs also for you and your entire community.

Stacey,

Hope things are better today. Sending prayers, pixie dust & hopefully some rain your way.

So which is better, wine or diving? Thoughts opinions...

Posting this morning overtaken by concern for Stacey...

Last night it was wine. DH and I attended a local ABC wine tasting - over 70 varieties. Best Champagne - Iron Horse Brut. Best white - Ironstone Symphony Obession, best red (drank more reds, harder choice) I'll post RavensWood Lodi. Did not try dessert wine, and only one port was presented. Beer was limited - I tried Red Dragon and Weihenstephan Hefe Kristal.

If you want to hear more about the reds -- let me know.

Joining the thread

We are Carolyn (DW) and Alex (DH), live in Florida and we are both RNs. We try to keep up with the boards but often fall behind. We joined the westbound repo thread, met lots of great disers, and decided to take the double dip cruise (if I can get the time off). We look forward to getting to know everyone. Alex

WELCOME! I am still relatively new this this group - they are GREAT! :flower:

Stacey - I hope and pray that the morning finds things much better for you and your neighbors. I feel so helpless being so far away. I am keeping you in my thoughts and prayers.
