We are playing host to my brother's family starting June 4. I already told Kevin he doesn't have to go with us to the MK. I think that made his day!

He likes the other parks just fine though.
Did you read that Jim? She says I can go diving!!

Good morning everyone! I hope everyone has a wonderful day

Jim, you take wine into the MK? The only park at WDW where there's no alcohol? You need to share your secrets with Kevin.

There's no secret here. That is why they invented wine skins. Put a wine skin in a back pack and you should be good to go. I have not tried having the kids haul 26 bottles into MK, but that might be an interesting test.

Congratulations. When things are going rough today, you can stop, pause and say to yourself "The day may be crappy, but at least I beat Jim and Mary this morning". :flower:

Happy Tuesday!

On the Magic Kingdom subject. It is one of my favorite parks, but also the park I see the most melt-downs at. I know I'll get flamed if I said this on a main board but I hope not here. I would love a day/night at the Magic Kingdom without kids. We came close at Member Homecoming last year. The Magic Kingdom was open for only 2000 of us one evening - it was wonderful!

Ok vent over - have a great day!

I have to chime in on MK...

When I was just out of college, my best friend & I took a trip to DW. We were amazed at the number of parents yelling at their kids. I SWORE that I would never do that to my children (once I had them)!!! Fast-forward to May 2002. We had a wonderful trip to DW with Emily - she was almost 2 at the time. Everyone was happy! Fast-forward some more to Sept. 2004. We had the infamous meltdown in Fantasyland which resulted in Mom (me) yelling at Emily. We arrived at DW on late Sat. afternoon only to be couped up in the room the rest of Sat. & all day Sun. due to Hurricane Jeanne. We got up early & headed to MK on Mon. morning. We watched the opening ceremony then the stage show in front of Cinderella's castle before heading to Fantasyland. Once we arrived in Fantasyland Emily only wanted to do what she wanted to do or go back to the hotel!!! So we let her have her meltdown while Bruce & Ashley rode rides. The meltdown didn't last long but I did something I swore I wouldn't do - yell at my child at DW! Lesson: DW is easier with a 2 yr. old than a 4 yr. old!!! Let's hope Ashley won't be a beast on the cruise next year. She'll be 3.5. Y'all may be avoiding my family.:earseek:

Hmm... I had thought about hitting MK this Saturday, as Ray has a golf tourney... you guys have now reminded me what I've forgotten, not having been there in 5 years. I'm starting to think that if I take the kids by myself, I'll quickly turn into one of those yelling parents... :guilty:

Glad to know I'm not the only one who feels the same way about MK (actually, all the parks)- went with a girlfriend last May - no kids and was so thankful all the tired, overstimulated kids were not ours! When the kids were 4 and 2 we arrived the day after Labor Day for the week and were so spoiled- so, I really have no desire to go back during peak vacation times....

John was so suprised when I said no, I didn't want to spend some time at Disney either before or after our cruise...

I don't think we'll do any parks before or after the cruise, either. We may do KSC on the Saturday after the cruise and go home on Sunday. Just a thought.

We spent this past Sunday at EPCOT for Christopher's birthday... and I realized then that we are FINALLY at the point in their lives when they can both go non-stop for a full day without being cranky and overstimulated. It was actually a NICE day from start to finish. We left the house at 7AM, returned at 9PM... granted, they slept soundly in the car for the whole hour ride home, but it was so great to not hear any whining or complaining. We DID get the usual hourly, "I'm hungry", but that's a given at almost any age.

Woo hoo... non-cranky kids get me a TOP!:teeth:

I'm with Angie...it's usually me who's hungry first. :mickeybar Walking all that way works up a good appetite. And there's so much to choose from. MMmmmmmMMMmmm.

Our first trip to WDW was just after DDs 8th birthday, and we went the beginning of May. Very nice, low crowds, I think Dad had the only meltdown on that trip. Second trip was in Sept., nobody there, my turn to melt down. Alicia has always been happy in the parks, until she hit the teens. When she and I were there last August, she whined quite a bit, mostly about the heat. So those of you with young kids, the whining returns after a while. Enjoy those nice in between years.

Actually, there's nothing like MK at night, during E-night, when you can do the rides multiple times and not run into a single stroller. Unfortunately, E-night is no more. I hope EMH is close. My favorite place is probably World Showcase though.

I'm just glad that both my kids are past the age of wanting to stand in line for an hour to ride the 30 second Dumbo ride!!!!!!!! Nothing is more maddening to me than that stupid line.

No, you will do just fine. "Mommy will be over here in the shade reading a book. Just look for me after you spend an hour standing in that line for a 60 second ride".

Jim and I saw "meltdown" this past weekend at EPCOT outside "The Land" pavillion. This Dad was "dragging" his pre-school child and the child was screaming. All I could think was what I have heard other frazzeled parents say to their screaming kids "I paid a lot of money for these tickets and WE ARE GOING TO HAVE FUN".
Over the years we have certainly had to vary the pace with our kids, but at times you want to remind the parents - they are kids and they are hot and tired. Take them pack to the hotel, let them swim, sleep, etc. They will be much better behaved after that.
My sister-in-law has told the story of she and my brother taking their daughter to MK and sensory overload took place. They asked her what she wanted to do. She said "I want to play the math game." They went to a shady area, sat on the grass and they quizzed her on math facts for 5 year olds. She was much better after that. All Kristin could think as she sat there was "We are in Disney World at the Magic Kingdom and my daughter wants to play the math game. We could have done this at home"

No... you don't understand... DS is deathly afraid of heights, and DD and I are from the "higher and faster is better" train of thought... no time for sitting under a tree and reading a book when there are coasters to ride and thrills to seek!!!!!

DS was 8 on our first (and only) trip to WDW. He didn't want to go on any of the rides except Dumbo, Peter Pan, Small World, etc. No Rockin' Roller coaster, no Thunder Mountain, no Tower of Terror. I'm not sure he'd go on any of those even now, either. All in all, he did great for all of the stimulation, but we took a 3 day break at Cocoa Beach while we were there. He wants to go back, but DH and I would rather cruise. :teeth:
