tech question...

What is the benefit of clicking on the orange box on the main boards? A different view of the threads? :confused3 Just curious since I just noticed it and decided to explore...

PS - great song, Mary!!!

OM, there may not be an east side of Chicago but, there definitely was an "Old Chicago" -:thumbsup2

Sorry - you weren't paying attention. I said there was no East Side of Chicago but there was East Chicago, IN which is what you found. :rotfl:

Oops.

It came up b/c now it seems Nick is a big baseball fan (after watching the Cubs on TV at the hotel). So we're watching the Twins vs. the Indians and Kenny Lofton was up. I wikipedia'd him b/c he's been around forever and found out he was OLDER THAN ME! And that he grew up in East Chicago, IN.

Sorry....by Sunday I was working on very little sleep. Don't know why I didn't sleep well there. Maybe b/c of all of the snoring? :lmao:

I remember Old Chicago! Never went there but drove by a few times.

The orange box is an RSS feed but since I don't know what an RSS feed is I can't be much more help. I bet Karen can answer because she's into blogging and all that fun stuff!

Things I learned this weekend thanks to Karen and her family:

1) What all the symbols on the Chicago flag mean

2) A version of Hang On Sloopy I've never heard before

3) Where the corporate headquarters of Garrett's popcorn is

4) How an I-phone works

5) That having friends visit is a lot of fun!

Amazing how #3 and #4 kinda contradict each other! ;) I'm just glad the RETAIL store was close enough to get to on foot! :)

Off to bed for me. Grandma-Mom-Sir and Smoothie Dad wore me out this weekend!!! :lmao:

Oh and one more that I forgot. Nick is a real ladies man and when you take him out to dinner he likes to have minty fresh breath!

Question for all of you with girls in dance ... do they take more than one type of dance class? If not, how did they decide which one to take? Emily has been doing dance (tap & ballet) at day care for the past 4 years but now has hit the end of the line there. A dance company comes to day care & instructs there. I talked to the dance instructor yesterday afternoon. She told me that she also instructs at another place & asked if we wanted to come watch her class last night. She called it "the company". It's a 2-hour class and includes jazz, tap & ballet. The owner would be willing to accept Emily & one other little girl on the dance instructor's recommendation. We did go watch some of the class. I was really excited about it until I found out the price. It's $120 per month. We were paying $45 before. Of course, I could tell the level of instruction is totally different & she'd actually be learning something. When I read the brochure, the girls in that group had to audition to be in that class.

I've found another place that looks like it has openings but Emily would have to choose what type of dance she'd like to do. If you added the cost for the different classes for ballet, jazz & tap, then it would be over $120. Emily has never done jazz before. She said that out of ballet & tap, tap is her favorite. Any recommendations???

Looks like Mary & Mark & the Mouse family had a great time!

I love Jordan's new cut ... very cute on her.

Anyone get a glimpse of the lunar eclipse this morning? I went out at 5:40 am and caught a glimpse but then lost the moon. Not sure if it was hidden by cloud or went too low on the horizon.

Angie, I don't remember how old Emily is. But when the kids get past the "combination" phase, they usually take a single class in each style of dance per week. At the older, advanced level, that can mean 2-3 ballet classes, 1-2 jazz or lyrical classes, a pointe class, modern, tap, hip hop, and maybe a specialty class like flamenco or African. Yes, it's a lot! The prices seem a little steep for your class to me, but it sounds like that's in line with other studios in your community. When Alicia has been at full enrollment in the past, plus company, I was paying about $250 a month. If Emily wants to keep dancing, she needs to take ballet. If she just wants a fun tap class each week, that's OK too. Most kids over 7 or 8 that want to keep dancing and/or perform or compete, take one each of jazz, ballet, tap.

Somebody at our house caught a glimpse. The tripod was in the entry last night, and I heard him going out at 3:45.

Emily just turned 7 on Saturday. Why does all of this have to be so hard to figure out ... and so expensive??? $45/month does seem to be going rate around here.

I saw the whole thing...unfortunately. (I should have been sleeping) I had to drop Ray off at the airport at 5AM, and skies were clear, except for the smoke from the nearby forest fires (what ELSE is new)... It was neat to see, and was very clear, but work is HORRIBLE right now, and I really wanted to sleep.

Jim and I saw the lunar eclipse as well. We out running at 5am. I am trying to join Jim in something he enjoys (and I know it is good for me), but giving up sleep is hard.
Last Saturday while Jim was running his 23 miles, Matt & I ran 5 miles. I am trying to get up to a 10k by October so I can run with Matt at the Race for the Taste at WDW.
