5-0 Who watched it? What did you think?

Just watched the DVR and I thought it was OK. I can't stop looking at Alex to know what is going on. I didn't like the bad language, call me old fashion but I don't understand why it has to be used. My husband loved the show. We will use the DVR every Monday night.

I didn't get to see it, but I'll watch it on Saturday when they rerun it. I know that they re-used the theme (yea!), but the compelling question is ... is the title sequence as good as in the original?
That title sequence was the BEST!!!! (If you don't remember it, watch it on YouTube -- goosebumps, I tell you.)

As to marching bands using the theme again, I think that would be great -- it is wonderful song for a band, a percussion showpiece.

DH was the one who watched the original and he was very happy with the title sequence. There were very specific things he was looking for and they were all there. He didn't mention one that was missing.

I've watched the show some, the original, so I am familiar with it, but it just wasn't one of those shows that my mom wanted to watch, so our family didn't.

As for the new one, our family of 4 very much enjoyed it and it is now in our DVR line up.

Our HS band used to play the theme song. I wonder if that will start to happen again. Football games and the theme song from Hawaii Five-O.

My college marching band entered a CBS marching band contest for the song, so I think they're trying to revive the theme song, and we have included it in our stand tunes.

I saw part of the show yesterday. Most of it was cop drama... not sure if I like it yet or not.

Ummm....I have my own take as to why one of them is a girl now. I predict bikinis will make a frequent appearance......for the storyline, of course. :lmao: Yeah, yeah, I get the "tribute" to the original cast and show but I still think he should have been the GRANDSON and not the son. Or at least don't show Jack Lord's character and have him be this whole other guy. (Of course, casting the dearly departed Jack Lord would have been tricky.)

I agree, I would have rather not have another Bikini Clad Bimbo in this cast....James McArthur played the original Danno back in the day, he was the son of Helen Hayes and now, we have James Caan son playing Danno!:thumbsup2

Actually Grace Park (the 'bimbo') is a really good actress. I've never been bothered by the token 'pretty girl' I'm way more interested in her role in the dynamic of the team. I also figure I get to look at Alex O. so the guys should have some eyecandy as well.:rotfl:

We bailed after about 15 minutes - around the time Danno showed up.

Things that bugged us? The whole angst over the dead terrorist - did he really believe that the terrorist's brother was going to let his father go, regardless of what happened? Dad was dead from the get-go, and he should have known that.

Also - the whole "I give you carte blanche to go after anyone you like" conversation. That's not just unbelievable, it's illegal. By that point in the show my husband was saying, "Yeah, welcome home to your father's funeral, btw, I've got a proposal for you that'll likely land us both in jail. What do you think?"

It felt like another 24-ish angst-revenge-fantasy, and we don't need another one of those.

Besides Castle's season premiere was absolutely terrific, and we've got Glee PVR'd for tonight, and the Mentalist is coming up, too! Whee!

We'll probably check in with 5-0 about half way through the season and see if things pick up, but it's not high on our list at the moment. Great title sequence, though!

Dh and I liked it... it was updated... I remember as a kid watching the original with my grandmother. I liked the updates to this one.

Honestly - I don't watch TV for realism - LOL. My Dh started in with the whole Navy thing (he is in the Navy and loves to comment on the lack of realism), but he got over it and enjoy it for what it was worth.

I'd watch it again.

Exactly. If I want real- I'll watch home movies.

Well... there's unreal I can cope with, and then there's hanging my disbelief by the neck until it's dead-dead-dead. ;)

Castle is totally unreal - I'm an author and I'll tell you, my life is nothing like that. :lmao: But Nathan Filion is so darned adorable he manages to sell it. Plus, the writers are really good with the mix of humour and drama, so I'm willing to go with the flow. It's a fantasy in a good way, for me.

None of the actors in 5-0 grabbed me enough to make up for the retro 70's-style TV writing. They just didn't seem likable enough. But everyone's tastes are different!

Case in point - I adored the Dresden Files, and that show got cancelled after half a season. :sad1: So clearly other people didn't agree with me on that one, either.

The only realism thing that DH commented on was, that he was so glad that a tv show finally showed people firing a weapon (hand gun) where they had to change out the magazine once they shot the 9-15 rounds that it would hold. It drives him nuts when TV shows (movies as well) show a person shooting a gun that he knows will only hold 13 rounds, but they fire off 25 rounds, never reloading.

I loved it!!!! I love anything that Alex O'Loughlin is in! Of course every show he has done has got canceled :( I hope that doesn't happen with this show...

DD10 thought the conversation DH and I had last night was amusing. He cited my "dog with a bone" attitude and I completely agreed, noting no one in that cast could hold a candle to Jack Lord.......I mentioned that all Jack Lord had to do was LOOK at a criminal and they would confess. :lmao: He was that intense. :scared1: DH said, "And what about his hair?" I then added, "That was some impressive hair. The hair alone could wring a confession out of a suspect." DD10 had no idea who Jack Lord was, but seemed to find the idea of a cop with intimidating hair pretty funny.

There are clips of the original H50 floating around on the web; you can show him Jack Lord's hair. (He was also in Dr. No as Felix Leiter the CIA agent.)

When the show ended he still had that jet-black hair -- I think he was 68 at the time. (I'm guessing he was a tad vain about the hair, LOL.)

By all accounts he was a very nice person. He and wife had no children, and when she died 5 years ago the remaining estate of $40million was put in trust for a variety of Hawaiian local charities.

I was actually kinda hopeing that Alex would get to use his natural voice. Gotta love a aussie accent. But then "dad" didn't have any accent.

However I love the guy who was his father, can't think of his name. Bet we're going to see some flashbacks of him once they figure out what the tape and key really refer too.

It's not on Demand..... guess I'm out of luck!! I really wanted to see it too!!

I was going to say go to cbs.com or DVR the re-run on Saturday. :)

I didn't think that he thought his Dad was going to "get away", that's why he had the HI PD called, he was trying to get someone over there to save his Dad.

I love Nathan Fillion (we were very late to the whole Firefly thing but loved it when we finally saw it) but I just can't get into Castle at all. Which really bums me out because I want to like it. And I just cannot do Glee.....again, I tried, really hard but just couldn't do it at all......

OMG Me too!!!!!!!!!!!! I love him and hope like crazy that this shows stays on for a while. He's a really great actor (August Rush anyone?) and I think he's just getting the shaft all the time. LOL

LOL me too!!!!! LOL

I really enjoyed the pilot! I'm excited to see it next week, I thought it was well written, well acted and I hope it stays around for at least 3 seasons. :) And no, I didn't particularly like the gratuitous bikini but it's understandable and since I have Alex to look at DBF can have Grace. LOL

At 60, DW and I have many memories of the original and after about half an hour watching we both agreed that the original was great and this new series has a good chance at being around for a while. It is NOT the old H5O and that is fine with us.
