I asked this same question. Epcot has a special fireworks show following Illuminations and Magic Kingdom has special fireworks on the 3rd and 4th. We are going to MK on the 3rd and Epcot on the 4th
We were there from July 1st to 5th last year and we managed to avoid the crowds. MK was crowded on July 3rd and 4th because of their special fireworks, but we were at Epcot on the 3rd and AK on the 4th. We saw the MK special fireworks from the Grand Floridian and it was a great view, and we avoided the crowds. We went to into Epcot through the International Gateway on July 4th for their special fireworks about 1/2 hour before fireworks went off and it wasn't too crowded back there. We went to MK on July 2nd and had a great time. Since most people were going to MK on either July 3rd or 4th, the park wasn't too crowded on July 2nd.
I would not hesitate to go back to Disney for 4th of July again.
