4th of July Week

No experience but I had to read as my DH still talks about the HORRIBLE experience he had as a 12 year old boy over 4th of July vacation when it was only MK and Epcot!! That experience has lead him to refuse to ever consider a trip during July or August!! Oh the terrible things our parents do to us!!!!

don't like heat and humdity - but with EMH those are easy to avoid.

Stayed at SSR last year, the 2nd thru the 7th. I disagree about avoiding ALL the parks on the 4th. First let me say that every day we were in the parks for the rope drop, an absolute must if you want to do anything in the summer. The 3rd we took the bus from SSR to MK, monorailed to Poly and watched the fireworks from the Poly beach. They are the same on the 3rd as the 4th. We then took the bus from Poly to DTD and walked back. Very easy and great Fireworks.

On the 4th we were at AK at rope drop. Saw everything we wanted and left between 3 and 4. By being there early and using FP's we never stood in line for more than 20 minutes. We returned to SSR, met friends at DTD for dinner and watched the DTD fireworks from SSR. The whole trip worked out very well for us with hardly any long waits. The key is be there at opening, hit all the big rides, use FP to your best advantage, return mid-afternoon for a swim and break and return in the evening for the shows/fireworks/parades.

We always go over the 4th and it is very crowded at this time....in 2005 or 2006(sorry can't remember which) MK was totally packed shoulder to shoulder...we left and went to Epcot and it was better there. We will be there this year from June28-July5 at BWV.

YUP..DW (above) DS,DD, and I will be there AGAIN over 4th We LOVE it. Its so dang cold here all winter long, so we just relax in the heat and pace ourselves, mid day swims and naps, then those GREAT EMH like MK to 4:00 am kids love that 1! and always seems to rain around 1:00-3:00 cools it down and thins out the Parks we just duck in somewhere then enjoy it when amatures run for the bus's
MK does get pretty crowded shoulder to shoulder is an UNDERSTATEMENT! Usually do EPCOT on the 4th little lighter crowd.

Great info!

We'll be going in 2010 on a big family trip to AKV. The 4th falls on a Sunday next year so everone should have that Monday off. We'll see

Agree with Disneypirate85 that's how to get through it. That being said having visited WDW many times at Peak times DH and I agree been there done that not going back for July 4th ever again. We were taking our neice and her family as a Nursing school graduation present and this was the week they could go. We had a great time but "getting through" a WDW trip is not our preferred vacation mode.

We are going June 22 - July 4th and hope since the fourth is at the end of our trip it won't be so bad.

I also like those because it means that there are that many less people at the parks for the rope drop! I avoid EMH like the plague. The only time I would consider it is if it was during one of the less crowded times.

One quick anecdote, I was at Disney for the very first 4th of July they were open. It was our first day there and we saw a lot of the MK (as it was the only thing there) we tried not to do everything as we wanted to save some for the next day. The next day was packed. We didn't realize how empty it was on the 4th. Everyone we talked to said they decided to come the 5th because they thought it would be so crowded on the 4th. Times have changed.
