What is the simple subject, and the plural nouns formed in special ways in the following sentences.

The white sheep reminded me of clouds.

The men loaded up the supplies.

We brushed our teeth after dinner.

Can the plural noun & the simple subject be the same? Yeah....I'm serious. I don't remember having special plural nouns? :confused3

I teach English for a living and I had to think hard about that one! Sorry...I can't do your kid's homework for you, though! What does the grammar book say? :)

I think by special plural nouns they mean the ones that aren't made plural by adding s. So in your sentences sheep, men, and teeth would be the special plural nouns.

Oh, and the simple subjects are sheep, men, and we I believe.

LOL~I didn't want you to do the homework....I just didn't understand the difference...of course, DD is sitting here saying that ALL of the sentences have "Plural Nouns Formed in Special Ways".....after more reading...i think i have it......

The white sheep reminded me of clouds.
sheep=simple subject
clouds-plural noun

The men loaded up the supplies.
men=ss
supplies=pn

Can I graduate to 5th grade now? :rotfl2:

The plural nouns formed in special ways I would say are sheep, men and teeth( because it's not just adding s or es)
The simple subjects are sheep, men and we.

A special plural noun example: children (singular child). Most nouns just add the letter s.

Example of a simple subject here: http://www.chompchomp.com/terms/subject.htm

I just did this with my 3rd graders today.

Sheep is special because it retains the same form when it is used in plural form.

Teeth is another one.. it isn't tooths or even teeths but teeth.

Thats what DD was saying too, and I agree....but can the plural noun & the simple subject be the same? She has to underline the simple subject and circle the plural noun....:confused3 :headache:

I think they can. And something to teach her early on is that your subject is never in a prepositional phrase. Seems like DD learned that in 4th grade maybe--it was early on before subject and predicate. No one ever taught me that and it makes it all so much easier. You probably knoew that but just in case... :)

ummm...clouds and supplies aren't the "special" plural nouns. They are made the "regular" way by adding "s".

One cloud, two clouds.

The "special" ones don't add "s."

One man, two men.
One tooth, two teeth.

In two of the sentences, the special plural noun happens to also be the subject; in the last one, it's not. (The subject is "we").

Confused yet? :hug:

I think:
The simple subject is The white sheep, The men, We
Plural noun: sheep, men, we

:scared: You are a better parent than I am!! If I asked my kids if they wanted me to homeschool them, they'd run screaming into the streets!!

hhhmmmm.....I'll ask them later tonight and see what they say.....DS would probably call DCS and claim child abuse!! 24 hrs a day....all day....WITH MOM!!! :eek: :rotfl2: :rotfl:

Let's be clear...she asked me! I am not the homeschooling type! This is a 9th grader, not an attached 2nd grader, either! :laughing: But, hey, I said we'd try it and see and so far, we both love it! Lucky for me, she's a bright kid and since it was her idea I am not "fighting" with her about school work.

BTW, I am still thinking about your son. Seems like he is doing very well!
