Are you glazing it? I usually make it with brown sugar and Guinness. Yum!

I do it in the crock pot also, but wonder if those oven bags you can get for turkeys might not work also. I don't see why not. Then you could do it low and slow like you do in the crock pot. Now my mouth is watering...

Tina--I usually boil it on top of the stove--much faster than a crock pot! I did it once in the oven and it shriveled up to nothing and was dry.

So Heather--how much brown sugar and guinness? Do you put water in too or it all stout and sugar? and I assume you add the spices too?

Now I want CORNED BEEF!!

Just enough sugar to rub and coat it...I'd say around a cup or so. I then pour enough beer to cover it (around 3 cans), so that is my liquid. Add the spices. I do the crock pot all day because it's just easier for me with the kids.

When you did it in the oven, did you do a bag? I find that the bags keep things very moist, but would hate for Tina to ruin her 30 pounds of beef. If you do a bag, you can pour the water in and have it still almost completely covered just like in the crock pot is my thinking.

Now, I'm wanting this now, when I should really wait another week....sigh

The second and third day reuban sandwiches are calling my name!

Thanks Heather! That sounds very, very yummy! I will do it on the stove, because I have 2 8-burner stoves and some giant pots at my Thursday job. I'll cook it all up then and just reheat with the cabbage on Friday morning. Oooh, I can't wait! And leftover sammies sound delish!!!!!

I like to make corned beef also. I usually just do it in a big pot with just enough water to cover. After it is done, I take it out of the pot and put onto a baking pan and glaze brown sugar, dash allspice and mustard on top and put into the oven for a bit until bubbly. While that is going on, I put potatoes, carrots and lastly cabbage into the liquid the beef cooked in. Drain, put on a big platter, slab on the butter, and add the beef sliced. Yummy!

Heather, The beer recipe sounds good too.

Jeez Louise. I go away for an itty bitty weekend and this thread blows up!! But now that I am home from DISNEYLAND :cool1::cool1::cool1: I have to play catch-up. I just read through this thread but still have to go read all of the Trip Reports section. All while uploading and editing my 500 pictures. I should hopefully start my trip report soon though if any of you want to click the link in my sig to find it.

I didn't even get to make a proper introduction before I was rushing to leave for my birthday weekend so here it goes.

Hiiii my name is Meredith and I am 22. I was born, raised and still live in San Jose, California. Immediately after high school, I followed my dream and went to Cosmetology School in San Francisco. I graduated in October of 2007 and have been working as a hair stylist ever since. I work at a wonderful salon in Santa Cruz, California and love love love my job, my coworkers, and my clientele:cloud9:. I just got home from my 4th Disneyland trip of this past calendar year(personal record for me).

Also...

Something that I was thinking of for those of us in NorCal/Bay Area - would anyone be interested in doin S.F. and the Walt Disney Family Museum at the Presidio? It wouldn't be a huge thing, but it's an option and it's Disney related for those of us who still need our fix.

Just throwing it out there.

This sounds amazing. Let's do it.

Happy Birthday Meredith!

I'm going to need your contact info, because the gal who usually does my hair is about to have her 2nd baby. Plus, any excuse to take a drive over the hill works for me!

Ugh, I will be hoping for the best for you. I hate dating drama. I am happy in single-land. I think I will stay here for awhile.:goodvibes But I really do hope that things turn out great for you!

I think everything is going to be just fine. He was just talking about buying me a year long pass for the max... the train system in Portland. He's only 23... what can ya do?!

Good morning everyone .

It's been a little while since I posted, I had a health scare & since I don't have insurance I put off going to the doctor. I finally went to Urgent on Saturday & they put me in the hospital. I won't go into details, but I did have to receive blood, because I lost a lot of blood. The good news is I'm alive & feeling a lot better. The bad news, I have another bill I can't really afford.

I hope everyone else is well, I've missed a lot of what has been going on.

Welcome to the new comers :flower3:.

I'm on the fence about which dates to pick :confused3. I mostly wanted February because I wanted to stay at GCV, but now I want to see if I want to spend the extra points. I'm so confused :upsidedow.

Oh NO! I hope you're ok! Take care of yourself!

I'm sick
And I have to go to class :sad2:

I hope everyone else has a good Tuesday.

Feel better! :flower3:

Yep--my Mom is down to 95 pounds. She eats, but never seems to put on weight. I told her to stick with ice cream.

Ice cream always packs on the pounds for me. I want some now!

I still have my kidney stone but I got some stronger pain killers so hopefully tomorrow will be a better day. I need surgery but I don't have health insurance so I need to just stick it out. I'm still optimistic but I'm sick of sleeping all of the time. I'm ready to actually do things during the day. I need to move soon!

Sorry to hear about your trip to the hospital. I hope everything is ok now.

I've never been lucky enough to go on a girls' trip (sniff sniff) but I was in the room across from some of the Dis Ladies last week! We saw your sign and kept hoping to bump into you....:) I remember seeing Stacerita and Momma4U's name on the sign (I think)...we must have been on different schedules because we never saw you. Looks like you had a fabulous time!:flower3:

So you were slumming in the Calcutta area???

You should have stopped by and said hello.

Hope all the sick folks feel better soon. And I found out this morning that I have a staph infection in my NOSE!!!!!! More drugs. Apparently I got it the last time my Mom was in the hospital. :scared1:

So Cheryl has cooties!

Yep--my Mom is down to 95 pounds. She eats, but never seems to put on weight. I told her to stick with ice cream.

Why can't I have that?

I think everyone's in self-inflicted time-outs! :lmao:

Or at work with a very strict filter.

Tina, Dan has never made corned beef, but after hearing about brown sugar and Guinness glazing, I'm thinking we might be trying it this St. Patty's Day! :shamrock:

Dan is the man and he can do it all.

I wish for corned beef, but stupid stress is causing a spike in my blood pressure to so nothing like that for me.

I also went to Urgent Care and ended up in the hospital, no insurance either. Does your hospital have any plans for people without insurance? Mine has different ones like low income, etc. I filled out the forms and am hoping for any type of discount I can get.
Alive and feeling beter is a good thing, but of course when the bill comes a person doesn't quite feel so good anymore.:furious:

Katie~ I hope you are feeling better.

I have never in my life made corned beef nor have I ever tried.

I am not a fan of corned beef and will luckily not be here in town on St Pat's and will therefore not have to go to dinner at mom's where that's certainly what will be on the menu. lol Y'all can have my share k? We'll be dining at RFC that night in Vegas. ;)

So I have a bit of a quandry. I have a marketing plan due by Friday. There was supposed to be a list of companies to choose from but I can't seem to locate it. I sent the teacher an email (online course) on Monday but have yet to hear back from him. I'm sorely tempted to just choose a company and go from there. (Honestly, I think somethings wrong. We've heard nothing from him in a couple of weeks and there were no discussions posted for last week.)
