the regular dining plan in 2011 will be $45.99. per adult per day. unbelievable.

now they can say the free dining saves you SO much more!

Yes, the price of the DDP went up, but I'm willing to bet the price of the food will go up as well.

If you don't think the DDP is good for you and won't save you money, then don't get it, it's simple...

Not a fan of the DDP, but I still think it is a good value compared to the OOP prices on property.

Yes, it may be a good deal, if you are going to have at least one TS meal every day, always eat an entree and always order dessert with every meal, or if you have several kids under 10 and like buffets.

Yeh - $46 seems a bit high - especially for my picky 10 year old child. The DDP made sense when she was 9 but I guess it's now out of pocket for us. RIP DDP:sad:.

Exactly... and for people who don't eat like that, it's NOT a deal. Which is why I don't get it.

Now I will say, if "free dining" is the only discount offered on my next trip, I wouldn't pass it up. As of right now I am paying rack rate anyways, so might as well get something else. However, if there are any other discounts, I will most likely choose them.

Also, Disney will keep increasing prices because the demand is there. Until they out price the demand, the prices will keep going up. Simple economics really.

We like to eat the way the plans work (at least on vacation, lol.) So far, as long as we're eating at Disney restaurants, the dining plan is saving us money--when I price out what entrees we'd order, that alone comes close to covering the DDP cost. The snack & desserts at lunch & dinner tend to be "freebies" on the plan for us. We eat very few buffets, and virtually no burgers/hot dogs...and we tend to order from the high-end of the menus (LOVE steaks!) And yes, we like dessert on vacation. But even when I leave off desserts, we still save a little over paying cash.

I've kept all receipts on several trips and we've always saved 20-27% on food costs by using the dining plans.

If you don't like the high-end entrees, prefer buffets, or like to split a lot of meals then the dining plans are probably not the way to go.

I am trying the QS plan for the first time in December...because it was free. I did price out the room with the discounted rates they also have out...and then priced out my package with the free didning plan. It wasn't that much more for the "free" dining plan...so I opted to book that way. I felt like I would have spent more by paying OOP than I would have by choosing to pay the rack rate for the room. I am not planning on burgers & fries...planning on some better QS meals and desserts too...I like to eat on vacation...and not look at the prices of what I am ordering. Last trip in December I spent a lot on meals and snacks...so this trip I decided with the little price difference there was to give the "free" plan a try.

We are doing the QS too for the first time. We used room discount since its a better deal for us.

Im doing QS too for the simple fact I dont see us doing table service that often and being on the go for this trip benefits us with the QS plan!!

We just got home from Disney.... we opted to up the free qsdp to the reg ddp. It was well worth it! Just for an example... last friday we had lunch at Columbia Harbour
2 adults
2 chicken & fish baskets
2 large cokes
2 apple struedels
$31.79

That night we had dinner at Grand Floridian... I don't remember the exact cost but I know it cost about $25-30 per person.

We also used 2 snack credits each that day (it was the end of our stay and we had several left over) Both snacks were something we had been wanting... funnel cakes and popcorn!

If we had ate the same things oop it would have cost more!

I am also considering the QS plan next time. I just feel like the quality of the TS food has plummeted, including the buffets. Our last trip to CP in MK was a heartbreaker compared to what it used to be. And now that my DD is ten, there is no way I am paying for an adult plan for her when she hardly eats anything.

Yes the DDP isn't for everyone, if you are not big eaters then its probably not for you. Now it is designed for the way we eat... a light lunch and then a heavier dinner (typically steak). But we usually have snack credits left that have to be used up at the end.

I also agree... the food at the buffets leave something to be desired... they tend to focus more on the attmosphere than the food.
