We want to stay at the Poly for a couple of nights to include New Year's Eve. Yes, I know this a peak time, but the rate of $450/night....hard to justify.... I've stayed at the Poly before, but I'm not sure if I can rationalize this one. Any advice?

Maybe it's just me...

but $450 for a place to sleep??? You have to be kidding. I guess that essentially is my answer!!! RIDICULOUS!!!

Erin :D

Do you plan on spending your time at the resort more than the parks during that time. If it is going to be a special fun thing to do and you can afford to do it, I say go for it, it is New Year's Eve.
If you plan on spending most of your time at the parks and PI, then maybe switch. If you are thinking about PI, maybe you could switch to a DTD hotel, not necessarily Disney.
I've stayed in Deluxes, last Aug. BC, Oct. trip at AKL. Stayed at CR but never Poly. $450 night I just can't justify unless the money isn't an issue at all, which I think it may be since you are asking for help deciding. Let us know what you end up doing.
Have fun. Going back again in Oct. and can't wait :)

That is crazy why on earth would someone spend $450 a night for a hotel room? Why waste money on somthing so stupid!

Imagine that .......... and NO HOT TUB !!! We refuse to "do" resorts that don't offer hot tubs. Just us .... ;)

Do any disney resorts have hot tubs...
It just makes sene after a day of running around, pounding your muscles, to go back, relax, and sit in a hot tub.. I guess, they would have to have a bunch of them, so guests could use them, and not just sit around waiting... But a nice size hot tub, outside the poly, near the beach would be an amazing place to watch some Disney Fireworks!
On topc, I dont think I would spend more then 150$ a night for a room right now. And if I had a family to tote around, the convienence might bump that up to 200, for a bigger room, and monorail access.. but right now that much money, unless you have it to burn, is to me overkill, especially if you are merely sleeping in the room.

We were interested in the Poly in terms of staying there all day & enjoying the resort--not just as a place to sleep. As much I like it, I have to agree that $450 is just too much. Too bad that New Year's is so expensive.

I swouldn't pay that for any hotel room unless it was in Hawaii and on the beach and someone came in and bathed me and feed me. LOL $450.000 is CRAZY:D

Answering the hot tub question. All of the deluxes except the Poly have hot tubs. And so do a few moderates.

For that kind of money I would hope there's a good view.

For me to pay $450 a night there better be a view of breasts pressed against the window.

I'll press mine against the window for $450 a night! No, no, no, no, no! I'm only kidding! I'll certainly be getting another PM from a moderator now...:o

Although most of us wouldn't pay that much Disney seems to be able to find enough customers who are willing.

There are a lot of people who pay more than that for their rooms over the holiday. Yes it's expensive, no it isn't worth it, but that time of the year is really nice to visit. We spent this past New Year's at the Contemporary Tower Club - and though there wasn't much value for the price, we really enjoyed our stay there. But, now we stick to the heavily discounted rates! ;)

I'm not a good one for rationalizing things. If you have the money, and this is where you want to stay (great choice!), then go for it. You never know what tomorrow brings or whether there will be a tomorrow as you know it. Go for it and enjoy!

Wisconsin wouldn't be the only plaze frozen over on New Years eve before I would spend that! Give me a break! We go to La Crosse, spend $50 for a nice motel and watch the fireworks off Granddad's Bluff.

$450 is more than my GROSS (NOT NET!!!) weekly wages!!!!!

Eek! Have you had any luck getting discounts? I'm sure they're harder to come by during peak time, but the past 2 times I've reserved the Poly during value season, I've gotten it for $200 or under. AP discount, maybe?

If you have it, spend it. Especially in these times - who does know what tomorrow will really bring. When I look back at what I spent to stay a week at the GF - am I filled with regret about spending that money? Not in the least. And we are not a wealthy family. I still treasure every moment of that vacation. And, ironically, I got the money for that trip when one of my stocks was doing fantastically.

So now, with our losses piling high in the stock market and a car payment, and the unsecure economy, instead of $3,000. on a room it's going to be $1,500. (CBR and Poly). I can't give up my deluxe and being on the monorail. And even though sometimes I think I should just be saving that money, at the same time I still feel that I can't take it with us and I'm making lasting memories for my kids.

Like my dad always says, enjoy life.

Disney management are not fools. People will pay this much, and enough of them to fill the resort. It won't be me, and it doesn't have to be you!

I totally agree. It's been a long 6 years since I've had my dad in my life, but he (along with Mom) is the one who gave me those lasting memories. And I will always remember. I'm just hoping I am giving those lasting memories to my children (DD13 and DS4). It's everything! We both work hard and dh thinks we should save a little more. 20 years from now he'll know I was right (I'm the dreamer).
