We have been many times but the two people we are going with only their 2nd time . We do not want to hold them back but we will see . Please pray that this trip goes off and she hangs in for this trip . I Love Dear Wife with all my heart .

I'm so sorry. I hope you two receive some good news on August 8th. My thoughts and prayers will be with your family.

Dw wife is to proud and set in her ways to use a wheelchair . But it may come to that , I have looked into it and sounds like what we need to do . Thank-you all for your Prayers

I'm so sorry...I hope she feels better and gets good news. Don't worry about holding your friends back. You don't have to always be together. You can decide to meet up for meals, shows and certain rides and spend the rest of the day at your own pace.

Wishing you and your wife all the best. Sorry to hear that she's going through this, as it must be very stressful. Prayers for a speedy recovery!

My husband was completely against the thought of using a wheel chair, but one trip his back was hurting him so much that he decided to rent one of the electric scooters and it was great. We also took that trip much easier than we normally do and it was a great vacation. I hope your wife feels better!

Prayers for her health. I had a situation much like that over a decade ago. I was diagnosed with walking pneumonia. I had no fever and never felt sick - just was so weak.

But I made a very successful trip to WDW during that time as I rented an ECV. I think I may have even taken two trips during that time with an ECV.

The short term solution is to prepare to use an ECV. I was amazed at how it freed me to wander down every little nook and cranny of the parks. You all will be exhausted at the end of the day while she will not be.

There are many things that can cause fatigue and weakness. A latent infection like my pneumonia or a sinus infection. Even sleep apnea.

I am now officially old and have a nerve issue that causes extreme fatigue because my leg feels like it weighs 200 pounds. I have two 10 day trips to WDW planned for the end of the year. I'll have a great time with my scooter and my devoted DH.

Sending prayers that your wife gets good news and your trip will be awesome!

My mom and dad are the same way. They really should rent an amigo but are embarrassed. Don't worry about holding your friends back. They can go off and do whatever. You take it easy and make sure your wife rests. Meet up for dinners and what not.

:grouphug:First of all, prayers that it's something simple and easy to remedy.

Second, I also think an ECV would be a better choice over a wheelchair. The ECV means she's still under her own power and not inconveniencing anyone. Sometimes it's the desire not to be an inconvenience more than pride that comes into play when discussing using a wheelchair. Plus, you "think" Florida is flat until you start trying to push a wheelchair around! You can book an ECV from an offsite vendor to have with you 24 hours a day for less than the daily Disney rental, but we have also paid the daily Disney price for the flexibility of using just when needed. There are usually a few courtesy wheelchairs at the park bus depots and parking lots to assist with getting you to the park to do the rental. If you do the in park rentals, you don't have to worry about getting it on and off the buses, which can be a little daunting as well.

I will admit my mom was too proud to use an ECV as well, but after one afternoon where she had to lie down and rest for an hour or so in the park just to be able to get transportation back to our resort, she decided to give it a try. It made all the difference in the world!

Best wishes for your trip!

Some of the best advice I have seen on this issue is to have your wife view the wheelchair or ECV as a tool, the same as she would a pair of glasses. Or a hearing aid.

Prayers and hopes that she feels much better and that you have a wonderful trip. Take it easy, take it slow and enjoy.

Last year, I was fighting cancer. When I felt up to it, we went to the parks. Some park visits were 30 minutes and some were a few hours. We just never knew and planning was hard. I often sat and
people-watched while waiting for my family because I didn't have the stamina.

I'd suggest you go at her pace and don't push it. Listen to her body. You may need to consider going separate ways from your friends at times when her stamina is low.

The disability board here on the DIS is a great resource for trip planning with a disability.
