$40 For Fish!? (Artist Point)

On our trip to WLV two years ago I tried the salmon and was very disappointed. In fact, I don't think I'll ever eat there again. I can't imagine what went wrong that night, but I love great salmon and that wasn't it. (I smoke my own at home to much better results).

I had the chance to have the copper head salmon once at artist point, and that has spoiled me for life, that was just the most amazing salmon I have enver had.....I melted in your mouth.

:rotfl2:
I know it's a typo, but as I was reading the various posts that caught my eye and gave me a good laugh. Where are those pesky fairies... that would make a GREAT tag!!! :rotfl2:

Oh and just to keep this on topic... I'm not sure I would ever pay $40 for salmon... and you'd better believe if I did and didn't like it... I'd send it back for something else! :teeth:

Like DW Lecras said, I lurved this Salmon.

I hardly ever eat fish on holiday because we have some of the best fish in the world here in the Channel Islands.

I'm so glad I had the Cedar Plank Salmon though, it was amazing. :goodvibes

that their message has been heard by so many people. Just my .02 cents, All Alaskan salmon is amazing (a little homestate pride here). I work in a culinary school and the chefs use cedar shingles from home depot (make sure its not treated with anything) when they make planked salmon. Just a tip. :teeth:

I just looked at the menu for Artist Point. Wow, it's expensive. I have an ADR for September, but not sure I will go now.

The food is really worth the $$. We pay that kind of cash for fine dining here in PA, so I really don't see the difference!

The chef's selection menu is very good and a good value. We walked out of there stuffed to the gills...or shall I say "rolled out of there"??!!

I don't think that I've tried the $40 salmon yet but I have had the regular priced salmon twice. I think one time was better than the other. It actually wasn't my favorite entree.

AP is my DH's favorite restaurant bumping out Flying Fish after the quality over there slipped downwards. It is definitely one of my top 2 favorites.

We try to eat there at least once per trip. Wouldn't matter if all the entrees were suddenly all $40 each, :earseek: we'd still eat there. We really like it that much!

The Cedar Plank Salmon at AP is awesome. My daughter use to refuse to eat Salmon until she tasted it at AP. Now she loves it. My DH has the recipe and can do a pretty good recreation of it. Yum!

I was just there in May and my salmon was $29 at AP, although it says "Salmon Silverbay" on the receipt (awesome of course)...but I don't get where this price increase came from because the menu on Deb's site says it was updated back in March and it says $40?? That is getting quite steep...am I missing something????

Hence my point in an earlier post that the Copper River are much more exclusive and sought after. You'll also notice the menu says "wild" since it didn't come from a salmon farm. Whether or not you believe that any meal--salmon or not--is worth that kind of money, the market speaks loudly. If it's a food that is only available for a short time and is prized by chefs and dinner patrons alike, then the cost is going to be requisite.

All Alaskan salmon is amazing (a little homestate pride here).

Amen! And why you may ask? It's caught fresh, thus wild, and not farmed. Wild salmon have a much fresher taste and firmer meat. Here's an odd fact for you, though. Farm-raised salmon can get the organic label since what is fed to them is known, even though it's not the natural foods that wild salmon eat. Conversely, salmon fishermen in Alaska have been unable to call their catch organic since what the wild salmon eat, though from nature's bounty, is unknown. Regardless, always choose wild salmon if you have a choice.

It is out of season. We were at AP in late June and the waiter said that the Copper River Salmon would only be served for a few more days. I think it was to be replaced by Sockeye. The Copper River salmon was certainly in my 5 best meal category in my life. I would say that it was worth it. I'm sure that the replacement will still be good, but it can't be as good as the Copper River variety.

I wonder if a pricing change--perhaps to $39.99--would attract more Salmon buffs??
Actually, I would probably pay the $40.00, but would add that last time we got the Salmon at AP (not the Copper River, unfortunately), it was almost devoid of any glaze. Pretty bland and dry.
