4 WDW Resorts to allow dogs

Its one thing to allow pets during some kind of natural disaster like a hurricane if you are opening your resorts up as shelters.
I am not a dog person but have nothing against them.
I really don't like the idea though.
I could definitely see some issues with noise, bathroom accidents, possible fights between dogs, someone possibly getting bit....
I think its one thing for the campgrounds but the other places mentioned I just don't like the idea of it.
Even if there is a dog rooms area that does not mean people in a non dog room area couldn't hear or encounter the dogs.
I also feel like yes your dog is your family just like my cat is my family but you're at WDW and its highly likely that you will be wanting to be at the parks most of the day so what your dog is gonna sit in your room all day?
Hmm and then there's mousekeeping. How will they clean with a dog in the room?
IDK just things I'm thinking about here.

I emailed them about this, as everyone should. If they decide to keep it...so be it. However, I will never stay in one of those 4 hotels again.

Will try but their will not be designated buildings for dogs and others not for dogs. POR is a very large resort so having more than one dog green area makes sense.

Based on a recent update to the WDW FAQ, there will be certain sections designated for dogs to keep the majority of the resort dog free for throne with allergies. Maybe this is incorrect or maybe they have adjusted based on early feedback

If they designate 50 rooms at a resort but more people want to book, Disney is going to take the money and put people and their dogs in non-designated rooms. Although they keep saying there will be designated areas, any room could end up with a dog in it. I'm so disappointed as POR is my fave resort in that category.

My first thought was this was pretty cool, I would love to have my dog with me on vacation! The more I thought about it though, I realized that it probably wouldn’t be too much fun for my dog! I would feel horrible leaving him in a strange room while I was out enjoying the parks, even if it were only for a few hours. He’s super quiet, hardly ever barks, but alone in a strange environment, I would not be at all surprised if he acted out and whined or barked, so then I’d worry about other guests enjoyment. It would really only work out for us if we stayed with him the whole trip and didn’t leave him in the room alone, but then we’d miss out on a lot!

Unless they have another one of those bring your dog to MK days, at which point the trip would be solely built around my dog, we will definitely be passing on this. Although I do hope they expand the pet merchandise with this…the current selection is lacking and my dog already has all the current toys!

I have to laugh at the dog bathroom areas.

My dog is super well behaved but if I take him outside in the morning and he really has to go I'm not sure I can stop him from going in a non designated area.

If it's a short distance, maybe. But to him if it's grass it's a bathroom.

I think each resort will need to employ a poop picker upper. I live in a somewhat high scale apartment complex and there is just dog poop everywhere.

Sure, lots of people will pick it up but others simply just don't care.

I assume the $50 fee is per room and not per dog, but I'm not sure.


Kind of wish they had that noise policy for all rooms. If any noise is heard, you will have to correct it within 30 minutes. Yes, that could be useful in many non-dog scenarios.

Looks like only four buildings at PoR, four at AoA, two loops at FW, and one corner section of YC.

Dogs not allowed in pool or restaurant areas, except for service dogs. And they've always been allowed.

If you mean that by the placement the "restrictions" are a complete hoax...then I agree.

The same thing happened when they took out the smoking sections...they had to scatter them so they could give people locations they want and not complain they were being treated unfairly.

If this catches on...there will be poochies everywhere.

Now if they limited it to only french bulldogs and yorkies...I'm ok with it

Yacht club is unique in one way...it didn't click till later. That should tell you something.

Dogs not allowed in pool or restaurant areas, except for service dogs. And they've always been allowed.

Dogs are allowed in every loop at Fort Wilderness. The two loops with the dog poop in the middle are the cabin loops, which used to be dog free. But those are the only cabin loops, so there is no longer a dog free area of Fort Wilderness. I don't mind dogs, so that doesn't bother me. I don't stay in the cabins, so that doesn't bother me. But I do feel bad for people who don't like dogs or are afraid of them. It is quite clear Fort Wilderness is no longer a choice. Now that's not unusual, as most campgrounds are dog friendly, but I do think they should designate one cabin loop and one loop of each level (Fort Wilderness has 3 levels of sites) for non-dogs. I wouldn't use them, but I know people that would.

As for the resorts, I still think this is stupid. Stupid to bring a dog and lock them in the room for days on end. Stupid for Disney as it's a risk they don't need to take. All it takes is bad press and a single lawsuit to make all these "extra" bookings they get from people wanting to bring dogs to be a bad tradeoff. It's simply unnecessary for the type of vacation Disney promotes.

And yes, LOL, we get it. The deluxe without the DVC got tagged for dogs. Who would have guessed?

I was at wdw during the hurricane. It was nice seeing the dogs there. Glad wdw is allowing pets at the 4 resorts. I will never bring my babies but it was nice seeing all the other dogs.

Honestly, the best solution would have been to build a pet resort. Each room allows two pets, there can even be a cat building. They can do it value style but charge AOA suite prices. This way all the pets are in one resort only. Very easy to stay away from if you want, it can even have it's own Magical Express bus.

You don't have to have a pet to stay there, but you will pay a premium for the room anyway. I'm sure it'd be sold out.

All the rooms can be built for the type of abuse that pet's provide. I really think that is the best solution.

I think they should have started with a portion of cabins. Those are standalone units so less chance of noise disruption and FW already has dogs. Go from there.
