Hi

Due to go to Orlando in May having booked with Virgin. Staing a week on site but second week Id booked Holiday Inn Resort on I Drive. All the reviews I have read about this hotel indicate that its clean , safe with a great location, but doesnt merit the f stars that Virginhave given it. I have therefore decided to explore the possibility of moving hotel and am looking for advice. Location has to be similar but has to be 4 stars and available thru Virgin...any ideas ?

Hi,

I stayed in this hotel in Nov 2003. It is very clean, friendly and is in the ideal location. It does free buses to all the theme parks and the I-Ride Trolley stop is right outside. We had a King Size Bedroom which was massive and it had everything you need. I really would not worry about it, I’m a very fussy person and I honestly cannot complain about it.

I am interested to hear what people say about this as I am planning on booking an I Drive hotel for 2 nights in August.

We stayed at the Holiday Inn on I-Drive last year and although we enjoyed our holiday very much and yes the room was clean, i wouldnt stay at the hotel again it was too noisy for us and i certainly wouldnt give it 4 **** i would rate it a 3*** at a push! :confused3
We've stayed in many 3&4 star hotels in Europe and i would say this was my least favourite.

Try the Rosen Plaza or Rosen Center, fantastic hotels. They are actually mainly used as a convention hotels, but this is an advantage because during the day convention visitors are working and the pools are empty!!

We also found ourselves getting perks as we were actually paying for our holiday and a change from the usual suits!! At the Plaza we were given an upgrade to the hospitality suite and it was huge with a kitchen and massive dinning table. They also waived valet parking for us.

Just checked out the Rosen, kevin, but it doesnt appear to be the most child friendly hotel around and was a bit concerned about the night club and the rowdy elemenst that might attract.

The other two hotels Ive had a look at are the Crowne Plaza Universal and the Wyndham Orlando resort, but again they seemed to have mixed reviews although the Crowne seems to be the better of the two.

having said that it doesnt seem to much better than Hol INN that I already have booked so still cannot decide.

I have noticed in the Virgin website that the Holiday Inn IDrive rating is now 3.5 stars.

I know sombody that stayed at the Crown Plaza, loved the hotel but said the noise from the main road was terrrible as it runs right beside it.

The Rosen Centre is definately 4 star if not 4.5. It is a bit more "upscale" that the Rosen Plaza.

Rooms are good quality and although its a big hotel with convention guests we didnt really notice it. No noise and the public areas are large enough that we didnt notice any crowds if there were any.

Several good restaurants and a 24 hour deli, for sandwiches etc. I agree with the post above that the Holiday Inn is definately 3 star.

My daughter was only 18 months old when we visited the Rosen and it was fine for her. The nightclub is at the Rosen Plaza and you don't get any rowdy element that we saw. People on the whole are better behaved than here in the UK.

we stayed at the 5* Rosen Centre this Christmas (2004) with 2 children. It's great - no noise and Red's Deli has yummy food and is reasonable too. We had breakfast either next door at Denny's or the local ponderosa. We thoroughly recommend this hotel. ::MickeyMo

look up the crowne plaza universal. we stayed there in november and it was the most amazing hotel we've been to. its 4* i think and set just back from i-drive so less traffic etc. dont know where they got the noise idea from as all the rooms have double glazed soundproof windows etc.

the other option is the wyndham which is on the corner of i-drive and sandlake(just down from the crowne plaza) it has nicer grounds than the crowne plaza but the rooms arent as nice.

another vote for the Crowne Plaza, it's an amazing hotel and we heard no noise at all in our rooms.

I've also noticed that the Holiday in is now rated 3.5 stars

Thank you for all the replies. trying to call virgin these days is proving to be very difficult as they take at least a good ten minutes to answer one's call.

Can I ask all those that favour the Crowne Plaza, how far a walk it is to I - Drive. The brochure I have mentions that it is one block away, however I dont really have any conept of what that means.

Thanks

it's about a 3-5 minute walk onto I-Drive and about 20 minutes walk to Universal

if you have more questions feel free to PM

HI, Are you going to be driving over there?
If so How about staying in a villia with Virgin?
I don't think you could find better quality and especially having children as most properties have their own pools.
if your not driving some of these Villas are still very central and you can pick up buses cabs etc.
If you still want to stay in a hotel , some of the names you have mentioned ie Wyndham are always shown on the sky travel shops, at least you can get a look at what the rooms are like etc instead of one photo(The Wyndham does look very nice.
Anyway sorry to waffle best of luck Chucklechops :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce:

Hi,

I would highly recommend the Rosen Center. Its a beautiful hotel and most of the guest rooms have now been renovated to the highest standard. There is a lot of Conventions going on at the hotel, but this does not interfere with your holiday enjoyment. The pool area in fairly empty 90% of the time, so you can relax without the worry of too many people or noise. The red deli cafe and the hotel resturants sell excellent food.

I went to this hotel in 2003 and have decided to return there in September 2005. I'm really looking forward to it, as its one of the best hotels I've stayed at in Orlando. :cloud9:

We are staying at the Rosen Centre again this year as we cannot fault it. The rooms are good from basic upwards, and the food is excellent. Do you know you can book this with TCD?, it's not in the brochure, but they'll quote you for any hotel.
