4 Reasons Why Disney’s Hollywood Studios Needs To (And Will) Change

Nice article Justin, very well written. I'd agree on the disjointedness of the park but I think I'm one of the few who actually loved the Sorcerer Hat. It's possible that I loved it because it gave the park an anchor, a central point to identify with while everything else was a bit random.

I'll be sad to see the hat go but I'm excited for the new things coming to the park. My biggest fear is that Star Wars will completely take over the park and I say this as a Star Wars fan.

I would love to see a huge Star Wars Land, but withing a larger themed overall park. If Magic Kingdom is the model, then this can definitely be accomplished. Separate, immersive, lands coexisting and thriving.

Time will tell

Great Blog Dustin. I have believed that the Studios has needed to be redone for years. :thumbsup2

I wish WDW would finally get an Indiana Jones ride. You could make the adventure different from Disneyland.

Also Star Wars, Star Wars, needs to be added somewhere. I would prefer here. I love Star Wars so I am biased. :thumbsup2

I've only visited DHS once and didn't stay longer than a few hours...the chaotic layout and the jumbled themeing was too much for me. Dustin makes great points. There's no reason Disney can't transform any park into a must-visit destination. Especially ones in need of an overhaul like DHS or love like Epcot.

Good article.

A major revamp is long overdue and people have been asking for this years, The walls will be a pain but it will be worth it in the end

I don't really disagree completely with the intent of Dustin's blog but there are some things that I just have a different experience with. I will also admit I could be wrong as I only spent 60 days at Walt Disney World this past year and only about 1/3rd of that at DHS and do not live in Orlando like Dustin. That said, every time I go to the animation courtyard it's busy. You always have to wait for the drawing class and the characters are always busy. No it's not Toy Story Midway Mania busy but it's not Journey into Imagination with Figment. The movie thing with Mushu from Mulan is slow but as far as the animation courtyard it's bustling (Just from when I've been there).

The drawing class is also featured heavily on the Disney Parks Blog Youtube channel. So saying "consistently empty and irrelevant" would be hyperbolic at best. Walt Disney: One Man's Dream is always empty. That said I would probably chain myself to that thing if they tried to change. Oddly, he left out that major waste of space Jack Sparrow crap. I liked the movies and it is a total waste of time. The whole Pixar area kinda sucks because it's not Pixar. It's just Toy Story.

The second point is Dustin doesn't have kids (that I know of) so I'm not sure he's spent the time on the Honey I Shrunk the Kids "Jungle Gym." As a parent who has had to go in the tunnels looking for my kid I would love for it to be shut down but I also will admit it's very popular. So, I could go either way on his critique there.

Lastly, the criticism that Hollywood Studios and Echo lake is not cohesive I understand but that kind of makes sense. Movie lots are not cohesive. You can have any number of movies and genres filming next to each other. Just a few points where I feel it may be overstated in some areas but dead on right in others..... Plus, we have to get rid of the Johnny Depp crap show over by Pixar. That thing so easily could be used for something more entertaining and useful.

Isn't that Johnny Depp show already closed?

Hopefully Disney has some major plans up its sleeve since They have shut down a ton of attractions in a park that already struggles with a limited number of things to do. On the flip side, I'm sure the Frozen singalong is absorbing a majority (or more!) of the capacity left vacant by the closed attractions.

Nope:

Frozen sing-a-longs are packed. Last time we went we had to stand to see the show without doing fastpass for it. People complain (not saying you were) about the movie but it's a monster success. The movie isn't a year old yet and it feels like it's been here forever.

Jack Sparrow is closing on November 6th: http://www.easywdw.com/news/legend-of-jack-sparrow-to-close-and-the-sorcerers-hat-likely-to-come-down-as-big-changes-to-hollywood-studios-look-imminent/

I first visited the Studios in 1991 and LOVED it. But back then, it was a working animation studio. Plus, filming actually happened right on the backlot. When production closed down, the Studios lost a lot of its soul.

I would love to see a Star Wars and and a Cars Land here. (Incidentally, why is it called Cars Land and not Radiator Springs? I've never been able to figure it out.) As far as I know, the reason they have not brought the Indiana Jones Adventure out East is because it breaks down so often. Honestly, of all the times I've been to DL, fully half of those times, IJ was down for at least part of the day.

Actually WDW has a ride very similiar ride design wise to Indiana Jones called Dinosaur. Plus if they didn't included any rides that break down there would be nothing in the park. Everything breaks down at some point. :thumbsup2

They are the same ride system just different themes.
