4 night Wonder - dinner dress code

Cruisin'Kroezes and Typhoon: ITA with both of you!! ::yes::

We've been on 3 Disney cruises and although we "dressed appropriately" on both 7-night cruises we opted to "leave the formal wear at home" for our recent 4-night Wonder. DH wore khaki slacks and polo shirts, I wore black slacks and a dressy top and we felt we were dressed just fine. I noticed very few jackets on men. I also noticed a few people in shorts/t-shirts, but didn't notice them to "look down my nose" at them. I am simply a "people watcher." :)

What other people wear to dinner is of no concern of mine. And personally, I think maybe the "slob" (as someone else referred them to be) dressed in shorts would be a better dinner companion to converse with than the "snob" looking down their nose at others for the way they are dressed. As the saying goes, it's NOT the clothes that make the man... :teeth:

Gee voodooboy, I don't see anywhere in my post that says that I was only thinking of myself.

In fact I don't think I even mentioned what side of the dress debate I was on, in fact I am not on any side of the debate.

If you want to wear a tux or you want to wear shorts, it does not matter to me at all. You are not going to distract me from my food and you are not going to make my food taste any better or any worse either

I agree with the others that it is not the clothes but the person inside of the clothes that is important to me. I don't judge the person by their outer covering, be it skin colour or clothing style.

Cruisin'Kroezes

If I misinterpreted your original comments I apologize. But I think that you missed the point of the original post, asking what clothing was appropriate to wear to dinner. While I agree with what you said regarding the character of a person and what is on the inside of a person really matters, it had nothing to do with the original post discussing appropriate attire during dinner and what they should pack for that part of their trip.

Thanks, Marcial

When we were on the Feb 22 Wonder 1 month ago..........

I would guess to say 80% of the men(including me) didn't have a jacket on at Tritons, or at the other restraunts. We booked another 4 day cruise for next Feb and I will not pack a jacket.

If I were going to Palo or a 7 day cruise, then I would bring a jacket.

Just starting to do all my research. Please help me here . . .if my DH dressed in a nice shirt and tie would he be ok at Palo's without a jacket?

He would be fine.::yes::

While I don't spend my time analyzing other peoples clothing while dining on the boat, it is prudent to note that the dress code and rules that all of the dining rooms have established are for the mutual benefit of all parties involved.

I agree with you. I also agree its prudent to note that many - and perhaps most - of the people on the Wonder dress nicely at Tritons without wearing a jacket or tie, and that while the written "request" is a jacket, the verbal signals (ask your server or guest services) are "we really want you to be comfortable and enjoy yourself" (within reason).

It would be a real shame if we gave completely one sided advice - and the result was a husband who looks across the table at his wife and says "You said I had to wear a jacket and tie. See, not eveyone is, I could have just worn a nice shirt and Dockers."

By the way, I posted above that my husband wore a jacket and tie. He didn't. He wore a jacket, with a silk t-shirt under it. Not even a collar! And I didn't even notice except to notice how handsome he was.

All of this nonsense and name calling towards individuals who (gasp!) choose to dress casually to dine on their vacation make me think that when we take the plunge and go on our first cruise, we'll stick to the buffets! I wouldn't want to be so crass as to detract from someone's cruise experience because they caught sight of one of my family members wearing shorts.

Let me go out on a limb, and say that all of the restaurants on a cruise ship should be casual attire. If I paid for the cruising experience, and I am entitled to dine at that restaurant, what the heck difference does it make if I am in shorts or an evening gown?Maybe they should just segregate the restaurant; instead of smoking and non-smoking it could be the Clearly-better-than-the-rest-of-us section and the Scraped-together-enough-beer-bottle-returns-to-pay-for-the-cruise-can't-afford-a-dress-poor-white-trash section. Then nobody would have to look at the unwashed and lose their appetite.

Okay, this post was intended to just clarify whether my H needed to wear a jacket to dinner at Tritons.

It was never intended to sart a war over who wears what to dinner. The joy of living in America is freedom of choice.

I hope everyone here wears whatever makes them comfortable and happy, because that is the point of the vacation.

I am sorry this post has taken this turn. I got my answer, and I hope that the ugliness can end now.

Relax, enjoy your vacations, bond with those you love, this topic isnt worth arguing over.

I have never read a board full of so many nice comments with never a flame as the disboards are. But I guess even pixie dust can't prevent the usual response to the dreaded "dress code" thread. From the 3 night and 4 night wonder cruises navigators, this is what the dress code is:

"Triton's suggested dress: A jacket is recommended for men and a dress or pantsuit is suggested for women."

"Animator's Palate: Suggested dress, casual, no shorts or jeans please."

Parrot Cay: Suggested dress, casual, no shorts or jeans please."

Notice, these are recomendations, not rules. The only rule is no shorts or jeans (for dinner). The rest is a suggestion. For those of you who want to dress to the nines, go for it. For those of you who want to relax and enjoy in your anything but shorts and jeans, have a great time. For those of you who actually notice what people are wearing and are crass enough to comment (there or later on, on the boards) maybe seek therapy to learn to focus on the more important things in life and to find out what your real issues are that it's so important to you to not live and let live. May I also add, on my ten plus cruises from Carnival to HAL, I have yet to see any scuffle with the waitstaff over an inappropriatley dressed guest, and that includes all three of my DCL cruises. I am sure they were there, but there was never a problem or controversy impacting other diners as some have suggested.
