4 month rule thingy?? Don't understand..

First I apologize if this is a repeat I could not find it. I just bought into DVC and am so happy even if I don't have my log in information yet (grumble). My UY will end Febuary, is it true I can not make reservations from Sept 30th (my banking points deadline) and the new UY? That was not explained to me (I bought direct) I am very frustrated about this.

It's not nearly as bad as you may fear. The no reservation thing in the last four months applies to trades outside of DVC, things like the Disney Collection stuff, Conceirge, etc. You may make regular DVC reservations, and stay at DVC, at anytime, subject to availability of course. Also, the prohibition applies only to making the reservation in that window, for a stay that takes place in that window. You can have a reservation at any of those Outside DVC places, but for any stays falling in the final 4 months of your use year, you just need to MAKE those reservations prior to the 4 month window. The main reason for this is that DVC needs to use your points so they can be converted to revenue to pay for whatever you are trading out for. Having at least 4 months left of life on the points gives them time to do this.

The Rule of Four does not apply to DVC Resorts.

Rule of Four:

You cannot book and travel on The Disney Collection, (excluding Disneyland© Resort Hotels in California and Tokyo Disney Resort®), Concierge Collection and Adventurer Collection vacations within the last 4 months of your Use Year. However, you can travel in the last 4 months of your Use Year as long as you've booked your stay more than 4 months before the end of your Use Year.

IF you trade out your DVC pts for a nonDVC option (like staying at the poly, for example), it takes time for DVC to take your DVC pts and rent them through CRO to get cash to pay for your chosen trade option. so you can book a stay for january at the poly, but you'd need to give DVC some lead time so they can pay for it...that's why you'd have to book that stay prior to sept 30.

if you wanted to stay at DVC resorts at wdw or hilton head or vero beach, it's a non-issue. if you can find availability for jan 31 by calling on jan 30, you can book a DVC stay...

yes. you'd be fine (so long as there was availability).

Depending on when you plan to go, at four months out, you might not find any availability.

..and..this subject was just brought up on another thread. At DLR, DLH & PP do not fall under this (for now). You CAN book and stay at those hotels inside the 4 months (plus the 95 fee is exempt)..which I see is clearly listed in the reprinted rules above

I have a Feb use year and have traveled to wdw for the past 6 xmas weeks and have had not problem getting home resort(OKW) at 11 months (or less) and also switching to AKLV and VWL at 7 months (2010 and 2011). I have had feb use year since 1994 and it works great for me ..we also have HHI points with Feb use year and have also used those points at xmas also(but mostly during summer months). Relax....and welcome homw!
