Had no idea Africa was doubling in size!

"all scheduled to be completed within the next year."

Yeah... I'll believe it when I see it.

I'm so happy to see AK get some love. It's my favorite Disney park in terms of theming, I just think it's amazing. Not a big fan of the Avatar movies, but I think an Avatarland could be really cool. Looking forward to all of this.

Ehh... I don't see the point -

A shopping mall and a new restaurant?

"Mommy mommy, let's go see the expanded African market." - Nope, don't see it.

It's nice they're expanding it, I guess - and maybe this is all part of additional "support structures" for the crowds they're expecting with Avatarland. But by itself I don't see it adding much to the park.

But are they adding any attractions? I don't see Africa's expansion as anything that will keep people in the park.

For us, it'll go from a 1-day park to a 2-day park. And I'm good with that :)

Still not digging Avatarland in AK though.

I agree on adding a second day to AK, and I'm excited about the possibility of later hours. Riding Everest in the dark would be fun! I'm not sure how I feel about Avatar land, but I haven't seen the movies so I'm not sure. If it has good rides, I'll be happy!

It is already a 2 day park for me and I don't ride the rides other than the Safari... stop and smell the animals! :rotfl:

Exactly - the writer of the article is high on Disney fumes.:rotfl2:

Sorry but more shopping for clothes is not going to turn a half-day park into a full-day park. And I am going to eat either way, whether it's at one of the older restaurants or a new one - it's not going to add time to my day.

I am always excited to see any new developments at one of Disney's theme parks and this is no different. But don't try to frame it as something other than it is, Mr. writer of the article.

Well said! :thumbsup2 I think with Avatarland (which I am super pumped for) it's gonna creep into MK or Epcot levels of time spent there. I'm so happy they've spent so much time perfecting this park.

While I certainly don't see this as something that will turn a half day park into a full day (or a 1 day into 2), I think they will be welcome additions. While we usually spend 1 to 2 days at AK each visit, I don't think these features will really extend our park day by much.

However, the Marketplace may well become the AK equivalent of the Emporium or Mouse Gears. It will be nice if they can have mostly African inspired merchandise, and not the usual crappy souvenirs sold everywhere.

A good CS restaurant is much needed in Africa, IMO, and the African inspired menus sound like an intriguing alternative to the current CS fare. What type of food the TS restaurant will serve hasn't been announced, but its possible location next to Pizzafari may give us a clue.

The new walkway connecting Africa and Asia can only be a bonus as far as crowd and traffic management goes.

I think that these new features will really be only of passing interest at present. But if the opening of Pandora results in the increased crowds that Disney hopes for, these new additions will be of significantly more value.

But really, the only thing that is going to keep guests in the park for a longer time than they currently spend, is more attractions. And that isn't going to happen any time soon.

I agree - once Pandora opens, there will be a need for more dining and less congestion in walkways. It's similar to the hub construction at MK. No one is planning a trip to see the new walkways but they help direct traffic.

When is the night time show scheduled to start? That will keep people in the park later.

A TS restaurant replacing Pizzafari is brilliant, though I am not certain that I would trust the food from anything related to Pizzafari. That place is gross!

In my opinion, EE at night is amazing. It feels completely different. We do it every trip. It helps that we usually go in the Winter when it gets dark early.

But... isn't that happening right now with Avatarland??
