I am trying to plan a last minute trip 4/30-5/3. But Disney's website shows no availability for value resorts (and some moderate and deluxe resorts also) those days. Is there something going on during that time frame?:(

Try seeing it you put each night you get availability. It might be that there are restricting reservations for a certain amount of days. I think they have started in forcing restrictions to a minimum of 5 nights.

Yes, it is the All Star Cheer and Dance Summit and they are staying at the values and Caribbean Beach.

Also, you might try moving your checkin/checkout days around and see if it makes a difference. You might have to do a split stay to get all your days in.

A minimum of five nights for what? I haven't heard of this.

???? What do you mean? Are you saying they're requiring minimum stays?

I've noticed this for at least 2 years. When looking for a room onsite (usually with a discount), routinely I find the room category I want unavailable, but then if I add days (usually 6 or more nights) all of a sudden those exact nights are available (i.e., the 6+ night stay includes the, say, 4 night stay I originally tried and found was unavailable). What is interesting is that I never found this on Orbitz until Jan. 2016 (specifically, TPV at CR isn't available for my preferred 2 night stay in mid June, but when I choose 3 or 4 nights (that include those original 2 dates) it is available.)

Prior to April 2015, I would just book for the longer # of days, then call to remove a day or two at the beginning or end. Never had a problem doing that. Starting 4/2015, they refused to do that (I've heard they will if you escalate the call, so YMMV in any particular situation). HTH.

Yes the have been requiring minimum length of stay at certain times, for certain room categories, etc. No one knows when this are being enforced. This happened to me for our October 15 stay. I would get no avilibility anywhere. Then I notice that when I put each night individually I got avilibility. I have called before and no CM inform me that it could be that issue. Anyway I called and I was going to make each separate night a reservation and thankfully the CM was able to help me, but since then they have started enforcing the policy more as @Amanda999 pointed out.

I checked on Expedia, and they only show Coronado Springs as having availability, out of all the moderate and value resorts. If you are serious about going, I would book it, and then keep checking for a different resort, if you would rather move.

They have also changed how they add or delete days from your reservations. They will no longer just delete a day off your reservation if you book for longer. They now cancel that reservation and rebook you IF AND ONLY IF there is still availability. It doesn't matter that you originally had those days reserved.

That's a bunch of BS...obviously there IS availability if someone had a reservation for those days. Vacation plans can & often do, change.

While I DO have a reservation during that time (POFQ), I keep checking back to try to find a value and like you, I find NOTHING available except camping....

That time period is also the last weekend of NYC Public Schools spring break.

They do it so people don't book more days than they need and drop them closer to the date, leaving a stray night that can be hard to fill.

FYI. I used to be a hotel Revenue Manager. That's the person who sets things like minimum stay requirements. Every major hotel chain operates in a similar manner. DebbieB is right on the money with the explanation as to why reservations are handled this way.

Without question, minimum stay requirements are designed to maximize hotel revenue. That said, they also are a huge benefit to any guest who wants to stay more than one night at a hotel. Without minimum stay requirements, hotels would fill up on high demand nights. That means that when you go to book a longer stay (like 4+ nights), there wouldn't be any availability.

So, next time you are able to book a 4-night reservation at a hotel, it might be because they put minimum stay requirement to keep people from booking 1 or 2 night stays.
