4/29/06 Eastern Magic...We're Going!!!!!

Ok Suzie, now I can start sorta packing too. I was actually thinking of packing one suitcase for all of us for the 3 days at Universal, so I wouldn't have to dig through the bigger suitcases for clothes on those days. Does that sound like a good idea? The good thing is Summer clothes take up so much less space than the bulky winter stuff.

Cruise Question- Who plans on doing some pre-cruise tanning??

St. Martin- Any ideas about what we should do after am the catamaran sail?
St Thomas- Does anyone know where we will dock?

Yes, I would pack one suitcase for Universal but also don't forget to have a Day bag for once you board the ship. We'll be doing the same since we will be at the parks the day before. I really don't want to have to dig through everything to repack later.

Good news - or something like that - my aunt finally was able to talk with my mom. She said that grandma hasn't been taking one of her heart meds since DECEMBER! Not sure if it's her fault or the doctors (bit of confusion there) but they are putting her back on the med and doing some tests on her tomorrow. The heart med could be a BIG factor in what is going on with her! Let's hope that this is the issue and it can be resolved.

Thanks so much for letting me ramble about this! It means alot to me! Hopefully this is the turn for the better!

All right, people! Let's get this board going! No moping around anymore!! Come out, come out wherever you are!!

So, what's for dinner tonight? We're having Italian hamburgers with provolone and marinara sauce (um, the best - made in Ed's hometown in PA!!! Gotta love DelGrosso's!), tomato salad with mozzarella, Italian dressing and purple onion. This is a great meal that makes you feel full without too many calories! I must admit that I made fudge brownies today for Ed and Tori......okay, me too....yummmmmmmmm

PartyPat - could you email when you get a minute tonight? Have a favor to ask! :rolleyes1 Thanks!

Dinner- Now that Survivor is back its Pizza and Wings every Thursday night for us!

Going back to School !!- The college Kirk works for is changing their policy for tuition reimbursement from 80% to just 50% for graduate work. I have been thinking about going back to get my Masters for years, but with my children to care for it just didn't seem feasible. Well, with that change coming Kirk said I need to apply, today before they make the change next month. Well, I got online :surfweb: and put in my application for the Masters of Social Work program. I will start in the fall, assuming everything goes through (Kirk is the Director of Undergraduate Admissions, so I have a bit of an in to get the process moving quickly :thumbsup2 ). I am excited and anxious. Love the thought of the learning and the new job opportunities but worry about the family time it will most certainly cut into .

Subway for the girls and I...Tom had a soccer committee meeting so he skipped dinner (Suzie, wish I could have had dinner at your house - yum :) )...the girls did Jump Rope For Heart after school today to raise money for the American Heart Association. Nothing like 300 sweaty elementary schoolers in the gym jumping for 1 1/2 hours!!! Pretty stinky on the side of the gym where the older kids were jumping :crazy2:

Unfortunately I can't start packing for the cruise yet because we have our wonderful Vero Beach vacation before that!!!! So I guess it's not so unfortunate after all!!! Tom and I have already started tanning...I know it's WAAAAYYY early, but our local tanning joint was running a good special so we each bought 2 month packages...besides, we leave for Vero in 48 days  !!! Tom is already very tan...so much so that people are noticing it! Me, on the other hand, not so much! I'm Irish so I look more like this  )

Five minutes until Survivor...gotta run... :wave2:

Suzie-my thoughts are with you! I hope the heart meds will help out with Grandma! My MIL-oh do I have some stories for you....but I swear elderly people just don't understand Dr's orders, or Dr's are intentionally trying to take advantage of them ....I haven't figured it out! My sister is a doctor, so I am not jaded against drs, but my MIL doens't have the sense to know when she is getting bad medical advice- and trust me--- it is out there!

Tonight's dinner was kind of junk at our house! Leftovers....Katie and I went to California Pizza kitchen for lunch.....and I let you all down bc I didn't have my glass of Sterling like I had planned! It was PACKED with the "corporate crowd" of which I used to be a member.....and they were all having.....in unison now....diet coke with lemon and I felt like a lush out with my 4 year old having wine. And the glass is $8.00 there, so I talked myself into stopping on the way home and getting my entire own bottle of Sterling for $14.00... I was late for the bus so that was scrapped. So... I guess I will have to wait until tomorrow! BUT I have to say- I don't miss that crap(the "corporate lunches") one bit! I just sat back and enjoyed my BBQ chicken pizza and Kate her Mac and Cheese and I smiled! :)

HGP has a client over tonight going over some stuff and the kids are NUTS! Imagine this...we have a stage(no Tom- the brass pole hasn't been installed yet....next week) in the basement and the kids are dancing to Beyonce's "Check on It" and shaking their booties when the customer came down to the bar for a beer! I know feeding customers beer is wierd, HG is developing some integrated IT systems for this guy's corporate psychology business but we met him over beer. He is unveiling the prototype to him tonight and wants to butter him up over a bottle of $100/case beer!!! :teeth: Chimay White in case we have any Belgian beer lovers out there!

Michelle, I just typed all this cool stuff about going back to school and when I carried my laptop upstairs I lost it. Congrats! Just do it! :thumbsup2 That is something that no one can take away from you. I went back to school for my MBA when Hannah was 2. Turns out the same day I found out I was pregnant with Katie, I was accepted at Drexel! AND, after I was situated in the program, she came 2 months early!!!! Anyway- I only paid like $200 out of my own pocket for an excellent MBA with a Technology Management focus(CRM, ERP, blah blah blah). The reason I decided to go ahead with it was the looming thought that GM was going to change the tuition reimbursement benefit. Lo and behold they did! I was the last group allowed to take an Executive MBA program which is just an accellerated program. It gets done faster, and "costs" the same, but the annual fee cost more than GM allows anymore because it is 3 years worth of schooling in 2! That is excellent-you go girl! Just make sure the cruise falls between semesters!! :cheer2:

BTJ!!! How they hangin'! How's Jen, Teddy and Madeline!? We are certainly going to miss you and that camera carrying buddy of yours! I can't believe we were only like 4 doors down(me and Tom came banging on your door the last night but you "weren't answering").....by the way....HG did indeed find out that the curtain between the grown up bed and the bunks is NOT soundproof!!!!

Alright-enough out of me. Just in case you all wonder why I type like thesis length posts....I type really fast! I swear I am not here all night composing this! Even though you are all quickly becoming my new best friends!

Oh and my Fla trip- we are NOT going to Disney, we are NOT doing anything exciting except being beach bums and eating Manny's greek salad all week! And working out in the geriatric gym. Our fave! I really think it will be a nice rest. Driving doesn't phase me one bit- after 9/11 I was afraid of flying so we drove quite a bit! Now I just medicate! I think it is the MOST fun part of the trip(driving)- family building(like "team building) The girls are great. My dad, mom and I will all share driving and it is only like 17.5 hours. So literally 6 hours each person. My sister lives in Pittsburgh and that is a 6 hour drive!

...One good thing is that I cleaned up my living room, vaccuumed the upstairs (I HATE to vaccuum!!!! I'd rather clean a toilet!)
I am married to a man who has been known to drag a 2X4 across the carpet so it looks like he vacuumed...

The Roses

Now THATS funny :lmao: :lmao:

My mom still vacuums herself out of rooms, and they have really nice white carpet. If there are footprints- and this has been the same since I was a kid- there'd be an investigation!

Once I had a party in high school and I got snagged even after I'd been so careful cause I vacuumed the rugs in the living room with the wrong vacuum cleaner!!!!

PJ

Roses- That's Hilarious

Jen- Thanks for the encouragement.

Leaving for Cruise a little earlier than planned!!! Gotta share this here because Kirk won't be nearly as excited as I am. Back in October I booked us to fly out Wednesday night. Later I found I was able to get a deal on the Universal tickets and instead of going for just 1 day, 1 park for $200 with the special got 4 days, both parks for the same price :thumbsup2 . So of course I now want to get down there sooner and what's one more day of school and work missed. We could fly standby earlier that day for free but with 2 kids didn't want to risk sitting around the airport all day, so I called Airtran last month to see if they would change the flight. They said yes for $50 a ticket. :guilty: I didn't want to pay that so said no thanks, back to the standby option. I decided to try again with a different tactic. The price for our flight has dropped $15 so I called tonight to see if they would refund the difference in price. The girl said no I purchased them to long ago. I then said that they had changed the departure time by 30 min since I purchased the tickets would they move me to an earlier flight. She put me on hold to talk to a manager. She came back and said OK and no charge!!!!!. We will now arrive at 11:00 am instead of 10:00 pm!! :cool1: :cool1:

The moral of the story, If the first person you talk to doesn't give you the answer you want, try again!!

:rotfl2: Oh my God, now THAT is some funny .... um stuff. A 2x4????? :lmao:

Tag Fairy: An illusive little pixie duster (read: webmaster) who will bestow tags (read: quirky little sayings that you say and they pick up on which taken out of context can sometimes be wicked funny) under your user name at the weirdest times when you least expect it - or when you beg and make an *** out of yourself at which point you get a lame *** tag like, "will beg for tags". The Tag Fairy is the only one who can add tag lines to your user name beyond the one line you get to personalize yourself. They are also the only people who can colorize your tags.

The most prolific tagging takes place on the Community Board, but you can be spotted anywhere at any time. I swear to God I am trying on The Roses little undies slip there. But we are apparently not on a radar screen and I wore out my one ask for a fellow cruise boarder when I read Tenorsigning's trip report and got her tagged for her wackiness that had me rolling on the floor.

At one point my tags were a war between the Universal mods and the community board mods - I LOVE Universal. But someone took those away from me and bestowed the ones I have now because it was said about someone who was .... well, don't want to give away all the secrets of the Tag Fairies. I really like my translator one because someone was being an idiot about their tag and started a post about how the Tag Fairy had used improper French grammar in their tag and I pointed out that no, it was the right saying, it was just street French or slang so they would not be able to just look it up in a dictionary - well, the Tag Fairy bestowed me with "official Tag Fairy translator" after that one.

You kinda just wake up one morning and see that you have color or a new line under your avatar. It took me about 1,000 posts to get one and then every once in a while I would get a new one or a new color (which is also a way of tagging someone).

Back when it was easy to get to know everyone who posted on the Community Board I used to post alot on lots of threads over there - now, not so much. It's just too crazy - too many people - too many trolls.

Suzie - I maintain, you all need to think about a visiting nurse. My thoughts and prayers are with you guys. Buck up little camper! Pissy moods are not allowed this close to cruise time! I love to vacuum and do toilets (weird, hunh?) so I can be hired. Can Ed talk to Paul about the whole getting stuff done on the honeydo list? However, I am as big a culprit as Paul is - we work well together because each of us is crazed and fails to get anything done. Kudos to Ed! Isn't it like taking work home for him, though?

BTJ - painful as it is for you to stop by - it's nice to see your posts.

mketting - hmmm, I had something to say, but now have forgotten. I will remember tomorrow.

PJ - I have tons to say back to you (I also type fast). But alas, I need to go to sleep. Long *** day. Belgian Beer

(my best HOmer Simpson-like smilie I could pull out).

Oh, mketting, I remember - AWESOME!!!!! Go back to school! What a great opportunity. Your field is one where a masters is highly desirable. Mine, not so much - more a life experience field - and a pair of cajonas - but since I don't have them I just needed to kick butt on sales, and well, I do have post-grad stuff too (what women have to do to just be equal to men  )

rubysmom - you had me going there for a while too - I was about to make some snide comments on the nickname thing for your husband too. Just type it out. It's what I do. I hate DH, DD, DS crap - never have liked it. It takes me more time to think about what the person's accronyms should be than it would to just say sister or mother. BUT, BIL and MIL do come in handy.

Belle&RellasMom - OH I am soooo with you on the putting away laundry thing - so with you! I HATE it! My bedroom is always a mess because of it. I just spent time cleaning it up and hanging everything the other day and I am trying to be so good. I am good with the kids' clothes - it's just mine.

Well, you all were very prolific posters while I was off watching my MIL become a basket case. Even though everyone was calling for people to post you all put up more posts than I can even respond to.

I am exhausted from this experience and am off to bed. now. :guilty:

Jen- My Mom has this beautiful cream carpet in her family room, what she was thinking, I don't know. At Christmas, minutes after we got there, my dog got sick on that beautiful carpet. You should have seen the show as we tried to clean it before she found it!!

Unfortunately I can't start packing for the cruise yet because we have our wonderful Vero Beach vacation before that!!!!
Julie, it's a tough life but someone has to live it!! You guys will look like the Jet Set by the time we get to FL with our pasty little selves!!

Dinner- Now that Survivor is back its Pizza and Wings every Thursday night for us!
Ummmm!!!! WINGS!! Our night is Wednesday and I SOOOO look forward to it now!!! This will be my one "CHEAT" night now since my butt is getting back to dieting!!!

HG did indeed find out that the curtain between the grown up bed and the bunks is NOT soundproof!!!!
PJ - um,....no, I won't ask but that is GOOD information!!!! Thanks for the heads up!

Michelle! WTG girl! That is so awesome! I kind of wish that I had stayed at college - two months can only be called a vacation! I would love to say that I graduated with a degree but now I can proudly say I am CEO of my own company! Yes, I am a SAHM! Oh, and office manager for our home company....but neither one pays **** for salary.....

STEVEMED - this ones for you, man! :firefight :firefight I thought of you when I did this little scrapbook page for Tori's mini book. She loved the firemen when they came to her preschool. She kept calling them Higgleytown Heroes! It was really cute and she even got to wear a helmet! Unfortunately, my batteries in my camera died! BUMMER!!!

I don't do fake tanning - lifeguard for 8 years so I am already up the creek with regard to skin cancer issues later on.

Hell, I don't even do real tanning - let's be honest here. Never fear, you all with look awesome standing next to me (for a variety of reasons I am sure).

AWESOME page Suzie!

The thing about being tan is I swear I look thinner. I know it's probably all in my head but I will do a little in April before we head out.

Tried on a shirt in the misses department in Kohls yesterday, how do I put this, it fit in all but one place, I swear you have to have your ** up under your neck for the shirt to look right! It was a vivid reminder that I am a Mom.

Still don't exactly get the whole Tag Fairy thing, but I am reading it after 2 glasses of wine...maybe tomorrow I'll get it!!! :rotfl:

STEVEMED...are you watching House Hunters...it's a new one...San Fransisco...glad I don't live there (although my brother does)...a 1000 square foot fix-er-uper goes for about 600,000 grand!!! UGH!!!

All the wings talk makes me want WINGS!!! No fun around here with TT trying to be the Biggest Loser at work...he is trying to make me feel guilty with every bite I take!!!

BTJ...nice to hear from you...you know that you and Jen will definitely be missed on this trip!!!

CG...welcome back...although we did keep this thing going in your absence, but it just wasn't the same without you...did you see what it did to Suzie...she was a mess today!!!!! :)

I am paying my cruise off in the morning! I can't wait!

I get to start making excursion reservations on Monday becuase thats 75 days before sailing! As a new cruiser I am right with 75 days right?

Now I know what you guys meant about eating dinner in front of the computer :surfweb: I was so busy at work today that I couldn't keep up with you.

Got home from work and have been trying to keep up and take notes, but have lost track

The Roses, I was rolling :rotfl2: :rotfl2: . My neighbors probably think I've got a comic hidden somewhere in the house. I can just picture the 2 X 4.

I had a funny incident at work. My desk is front of a window and at one point I looked out and saw the meter maid cushman rolling down the street without the meter maid in it. She was chasing it and she happens to be a friend. It just missed a parked car and came to rest in a driveway. Needless to say, she swore us to secrecy. Funniest thing I've seen in a long time.I'm still laughing :rotfl: And then I read whats been going on today.

Sorry you had a bad day Suzie, things have to look up tomorrow, but just know we here for you when you need a sounding board.

My sister and niece owned a tanning salon for awhile and they're motto was "Everything looks better tan".

Tom, as to wine....Napa is a 4 letter word around here. I live in Sonoma County not Napa county, but I'll try to help you out:

Napa (I don't know much about their wines...I try to buy local):

The best I've had, but very pricey: Silver Oak $80.00 bottle
(a client gave me a magnum thats worth $500.00, its on its head
waiting for a special occasion)

Kathryn Hall about $60.00 bottle (a client gave me a case and it got
rave review from family and friends)

Sonoma: Now this I know:

Cab - Mazzoco - $15.00 bottle
Quivira - $20.00
Clos du Bois (Briarcrest Vineyard) - $25.00
Lake Sonoma - $15.00
Trentadue (if you can find it) Great CAB - $15.00

Chard - Chateau Sauvergien (spell) $12.00

Pinot Gregio - My sisters farorite
Seghisio - $15.00

Merlot - My favorite
Lambert Bridge all the way - $15.00 (Cases fly out of that
winery)

Got an email from my son, Justin, he made it to Paris and is seeing the sights. Met up with some Aussies and is off to Prague and Brussels on Sunday. What an adventure!

Grumpy, :yay: :yay: West Coast time for ressies is 12:01 AM on the 13th.
3:00 AM East Coast, I think :hourglass The countdown is on. We'll see if we get to dine with the past cruisers. I really wonder if they put some ressies aside for us 1st timers?

Bow Tie Joe...sorry I don't get to meet you and Jen, but will definately shake the Pango Mans hand on boarding. Hope he will be there to Greet all of us. :worship:

Julie,

And by the way, Girlfriend, I'm with you. My aunt was a typing teacher at UC Berkeley when I was a teen and taught me well. My niece thinks I can type as fast as I think. Sometimes I think shes right.

And speaking of my niece, Stacy, quit lurking.....Let us know your out there :rolleyes1

WARNING WARNING!!! I am in the picture posting mood this morning!

Party Pat- Do you think it would be possible to trouble you for a bottle of the Kathryn Hill wine? See my cork wall below? Well, aside from the Toasted Head "bear" corks every other one, I have several "Hanna" winery corks(for my daughter). We have Cambria's Catherine something or other but we spell Kate's name Kathryn too so it would be neat to have a cork and label from that winery too! If it is too much trouble, it is no problem!
bar.jpg

Michelle, That is too funny about the dog. We have a golden retriever who really hasn't done anything BAD to my moms carpet-white thru the whole house. The family room is berber but white nonetheless. My whole family picks on us cause Hunter(our dog) is neurotic and pees when it is windy and we aren't home.... so he's peed a few times. Well, "my holier than thou" sister gets a dalmation and brings it to visit. Now remember we have endured countless ribbings over our dog. Well, Penny gets in the house and lays a huge steaming pile in the middle of the carpet! IT was so funny Pat and I took pictures!!!! Just so everyone remembers who's dog is worse! It can't be this handsome old man....(the dog, that is)
