Thursday must be the morning everyone sleeps in. Denista, our hostess, greeted us with "You're up early" when we left the stateroom around 8:30. Denista is a sweetheart. She incorporates all kinds of things with her towel animals, and I've got pictures of all of them.

Today DH and I are having a very small breakfast to save up for our 11:30 rescheduled Palo brunch. Thankfully, the seas are calm. After breakfast, I suggest to the boys that they may want to swim now, because the pools will be mobbed in the afternoon. We also want to do one more quick load of laundry. DH and I took one look at the laundry room and were really, really glad we did most of it on Monday & Tuesday. People were literally emptying suitcases. Luckily we just have one load of unmentionables - the rest can be washed when we get home.

DH mentions something about working out (we did use the ellipticals on Monday, which I didn't mention because it's nothing exciting), but I'm happy to stay put by the pool. I told DH that I spend enough time on those things during the other 51 weeks of the year. DH must agree with that comment because he stays put too.

The pool starts to get crowded and the boys have had enough, and it's a good thing because it's Palo time! Let's try this again! I am so happy to see that Aleksandar is our server again. So many wonderful things to try, and then we have to save room for dessert! If I knew how to post pictures in a thread I would show you one of DH's appetizer plate - I don't think he would have had room for one more thing! He had the veal entree, and I couldn't deside between the Chicken and the pasta, so Aleksandar brought me some of both. Everything was delicious. Before dessert we had a really nice conversation with Aleksandar - he is a very fine young gentleman. I only had room to try three desserts - my favorite was the cappucino mousse, and DH liked the tiramisu mousse.

We met up with our kids, who had burgers and ice cream for lunch. They take off for their clubs because the Goofy pool is really packed by now. There is no space to be found by Quiet Cove pool either, so we park up on Deck 10 for awhile to begin to contemplate how fast this week has gone. Eventually some chairs open up below, and we're grateful because Deck 10 is really breezy! In fact, DH's KTTW card almost blew away!

Tonight is semi-formal night - we're a little more leaning toward cruise casual, however. More importantly, it's lobster night! Ancell and Zibby both look very handsome in their tuxes. They were a little quiet earlier in the week but we are getting to know them better as the week goes on. Ancell gives the kids a new puzzle to solve every night. Everyone is trying the lobster tail tonight. DS 13 loved his, DS 10 said he liked it but took a long time about eating it.

DS 13 is pestering to stay out until 1:30 tonight. His curfew so far has been 12:00, and needless to say he is the last one in the room at night (although we wait up - how many more years of that do we have coming?). I finally agree to let him do it - apparently there's some kind of homecoming in the Stack, and if it means enough that he is willing to put on his dress-up clothes again, it must mean a lot to him. DS 10 wants to go to the dessert buffet and we agree to meet up for that. He does not want to be picked up at the Lab, he will meet us in the room. I guess it's not cool for the 10-12 to be picked up by their parents. Boy, are these kids in for a rude awakening when we get home! They are being very responsible about their freedom on the ship, I must say.

Gary DeLena is the comedian in Rockin' Bar D tonight. He is also hysterical, but in a different way than Rich Purpura. Afterwards it is the 70's Disco Party, and I got " glownecklaced" to be a Gloria Gaynor. I tried to talk them out of it saying I had to meet my son at 11:30 but they were having none of it. Several of our DIS friends were there to see my "act" and I will probably never live it down. I did receive a shot at the bar for participating, and the nice bartender made the shot big enough to share with DH. I also got to meet Webmaster Corey, who was there with his wife. Very nice people.

When we met DS 10 back at the room, he was too tired to go to the Dessert Buffet. For him to turn down dessert, he must really be tired! DH and I went down mainly to take pictures since we are still stuffed from Palo and lobster tail. DH does ask if they have anything like a chocolate peanut butter pie, and they do not (probably because of so many peanut allergies). The next thing we know, the server he asked is talking to someone else, and comes back to ask us who our head waiter is and what table are we at. The staff is going to make us a chocolate peanut butter pie to have for dessert tomorrow after dinner! DCL really does go that extra mile!

This has been quite a lot of yammering for a sea day! Tomorrow is Castaway Cay!

Sounds like a fabulous day to me! I am going to do my best to avoid laundry at all costs while on the ship.

Just curious - what did most people wear for semi-formal night?

Semi-formal night was really all over the place. A lot of people were almost as dressed up as on formal night, and the waiters did wear tuxes. Someone did say that people seemed to be more dressed up on our cruise than on a previous one they had taken (this was my first 7-day so I can't comment). Then again, you did have your people who wore shorts to dinner. I wore a pantsuit, DH and the boys wore collar button-down shirts.

As for laundry, if you can get away without doing it, go for it! I understand Disney's rates aren't too bad to send laundry out as long as you don't need next day service. I am actually so laundry-obsessed that I posted a question about it on the main board!

We were in Palo for semi formal night on this cruise and as Lisa said, it was all over the place up there too. Some men had short sleeved shirts on, some had suits, most women had cocktail dresses.

I did think that most people I could see during dinner were dressed very nicely for formal night and the people I saw in the theater and around the ship on semi formal night were dressed very well also. The thing about DCL's dining rooms, which I didn't realize prior to going and which is very different than other lines, is that you really can't see everywhere into the dining rooms. They are very broken up by both the seating arrangements and by server stations. You basically exist into your own little corner of the room and that is what you are exposed to. We never even saw others from the DIS who were in the same rotation and time as us because they were on the other side of the room.

Hi Lisa D,
My husband and I were on the Magic as well from April 29 to May 6. We had a fabulous time. It was our first 7 day Disney Cruise- we had done a 4 day cruise on the Wonder a few years ago. This was our best vacation ever. The only thing we didn't like was that the Magic had to end too soon. We enjoyed your impersonation of Gloria very much. Gary and Rich and all the fun in Rockin Bar D was a real blast.

Pixie, your daughter can probably wear a nice dress or skirt to formal & semi-formal nights. Whatever she is comfortable in. If she does have a long dress, she could wear that too. Girls usually don't mind getting dressed up - it's the boys (including the fully grown ones) who need to be forced to! In fact, the only time DH grumbled about anything on the cruise was when he had to get dressed for dinner.

JP, we met quite a few people from all over Canada on the cruise! There were two women from British Columbia we met by the pool on the first day, there was a family from our DIS group from Northern Manitoba, and we were chatting in the whirlpool one day with a gentlemen from Nova Scotia. This was also our best vacation ever. It's hard to believe it's been two weeks since we sailed.
