4/25/09 Magic - First Visit To Tortola!

Well, if Dot can get her picture up then certainly so can I :rotfl:
This was from 2005 on our 4 night cruise.
Sandy

Queen2 mentioned having a group name - - the idea was Tortula Pirates - - any imput on that for her?

How about "Pirates of Tortola", so it sounds more like Pirates of the Caribbean? pirate:

I can't remember if I already shared a photo of my FE with you guys but here it is:

3251079880_b4815138f5.jpg

I didn't make it. Even though I do know how to sew, I'm lazy! :rotfl2: I bought it on eBay and love it! It's exactly what I want: my favorite color, personalized, and "The Little Mermaid"! :cheer2:

Rebecca I have dial up but I am going to wait till your picture comes up. I can see some of the purple and so far it looks great

Sandy great job with the avitar looks great I love Minnie (oops took a better look, I think its Mickey You can see I am silly) She is in my avitar too only I am blocking her out. Maybe I will get a better picture on the cruise.

I may have to go to ebay and see if I can find a better FE, but it will disappoint DH He thinks he did a great job on it
Ole Ole Dot
PS picture is still loading I may be here till midnight
Picture is up and it looks very very good

I have been wanting to ask a question. Where is the best place to be for sail away from Port Canavera? I don't want to miss the tune When you wish apon a Star. I have heard it many times when sitting in Grills Restaurant watching the Magic sail out and it truly was magical, I can't believe we will be on the ship this time listening to that tune.

thanks in advance
Ole Ole Dot

Hi Everyone,
I hit Hyatt MCO tonight for 4/21 for $75. We have a midnight arrival:eek: Thanks to DISBOARDS I had a clue what I was looking for.
I am forming the to buy lists. DH thinks I'm going to crash from the planning.
Sandy, This is for you!:tink:
I can't wait to just sit on the deck and watch the sea go by. Now if I can just get my room assignment.:cool2:

Loving the name "Pirates of Tortola" - great idea Rebecca. :thumbsup2

Rebecca - your FE looks great.

Dot - don't get a new FE --- especially if your DH actually helped you make one! Cherish it forever  I bet not too many DHs have helped w/ the FEs.

The FE's are great!

Dot! Don't go through any stress or expense over the FE's! If your DH made a FE...use it...cherish it...idolize it!!!! How fun is that! With a FE you can use a plastic bag if needed... Not many of us get to see a DH's point of view for a FE. And FE'ers are to be fun...sharing...not expensive...no stress allowed!!!

I like the Pirates of Tortola also. Is everyone dressing for Pirates night? We dressed last time and even though not many did, we had a great time and will do it again...as I mentioned earlier, not too many Dis'ers on our last cruise. It was still alot of fun. Our picture from pirate night is our avatar right now.

On thing that my DH said was the best thing I packed for our last trip was the over the door organizer. It hangs over the bathroom door (any door for that matter) and has many pockets for stuff. I had tape, scissors, bandages, sunscreen, asprin, disposible cameras, dental floss, playing cards, sharpies, lotion...all kinds of little stuff that gets lost in drawers...I put in those pockets. The bathrooms don't have any drawers and limited counter space. If someone wants a picture of this organizer, let me know and I will post one. But honestly, there is not a lot of storage space and you can put extra soaps, socks, change for the wash machines...sitting here thinking I can't think of all I put in there, but it was full of stuff so that whenever someone needed a little something, it was in that pocket hanger and we didn't have to pull out a suitcase to find it.

Oh, another thing... On our last cruise, I put some blank picture frame mats in a large envelope marked with our stateroom number and dropped them off at guest services with the request that the characters sign the photo frames for us. I got the blank, standard size mats from WalMart...up to 8 x 10. They did tell me that one per person per stateroom and they returned them to us the night before we disembarked. I indicated with a sticky note which side they were to sign and which way was the top of the frame so they knew how I wanted them signed. I understand that they will also do pillow cases and such. Such a nice, personalized gift for a family to take home. Note: they may or may not be doing it any longer. I heard that they were going to stop doing this, but I don't know if they did or not. Doesn't hurt to ask:)

I am checking daily to see if our room has been assigned to us yet. Like many others before us...we are hoping for an upgrade. I was surprised that they even booked us as GTY...we'll see what we get...

I am so excited ... I cannot wait ... There is just a little over 5 weeks to go! I will try not to drive you guys insane.

I'll try not to ramble on and on....Everyone have a great day!..

Linda

If you mean where's the best place on the ship - you can hear that horn blow anywhere! I believe all of the sail away activities take place on deck 9, so we are usually on deck 10 taking in the view and having a blast! Speaking of the horn blow - I have been watching countless videos on You Tube of the DCL horn and sail away party... DH is going to cut off my internet soon! :rotfl:

I think everyone's fish extenders look great!

I like the name "Pirates of Tortola" too! On our last cruise we did dress-up somewhat for Pirate night - I will have to pull out the pictures at home and see if I can post one in the thread when I get a chance!

I'm with everyone else waiting to find out our room assignment! Hopefully we will all know sometime next week!

Oh, and we have been shopping in the last week! We don't have a lot of clothes/shoes so we had to buy some things. We have bought shorts, a pair of pants, a shirt, and a pair of shoes for DH! I have bought shoes and just ordered a swimsuit from JC Penney - let's hope than turns out well! :scared1: :lmao:

Hi all,
Just stopping in and wanted to introduce ourselves. This is our second Disney Cruise on the Magic. We did the Western Caribbean last year. We are Tim and Laurie (both 40ish) and we will be traveling with our two 8-year-old daughters, Haley and Jordan, and our two 5-year-old sons, Caleb and Noah. I see that there is a kids thread. I will direct the girls to post there to meet some friends before we go.
I see this has been a extremely active group! It took me several days to catch up on the posts that have been written. I had thought we might do the fish extenders this time around. Last time I was too busy making pirate costumes for all of us to make a FE too. However, it looks like I may have waited too long. Is it too late to join in? If so, that is fine. One less thing for me to do in preparation. If not, I will get to work.
We are really looking forward to our cruise. Wish it were time to go now.pirate:

Laurie

Thanks for all the encouragment
Gatorvet welcome,
this is a great group of people. very helpful and knowledgable about cruising.
I hope none of them stop rambling on because it really helps with all those tips.
PS We are using our original FE It is indeed something to be cherish. Thanks for the boost.

Hello everyone. We will be taking our 3rd disney cruise on the wonder next week! . There are 4 of us in the family, me (34) , dh (34), dd(5) and dd(3). Would love to know of anyone who has girls the same age as mine!

We will be staying at the Sheraton at cocoa beach the night before the cruise and plan on getting to the port early on the 26th.

I am checking daily for Palo reservations and our room assignment. My DH is stressing a little over formal & semi formal nights. I say a suit/tie is OK. It has been awhile since he worked a job that required him to wear suits...since 1993! And many changes has happend to, lets say, his physical structure...if you know what I mean (not to imply that it hasn't happened to me also! ) It's $85 to rent a tuxedo from them as we are not going to buy one. What is everybody's DH wearing on Formal Night???

It should be nice and warm at the end of April. Packing should be easy as summer wear is much more compact than winter attire. Shorts, tank tops, flip flops... I will have to shop for a new swimsuit also. Mine somehow got a little stretched out!:rotfl:

Laurie

Hi Laurie:wave2: and welcome!

I have an 8 year old daughter also. I've already signed her up for the Oceaneers Lab. Our other daughter is 12. I just booked my reservation a little more than a week ago. We are very excited to be going.

Hello everyone. We will be taking our 3rd disney cruise on the wonder next week! We are in cabin 6556 (or somewhere around there!). There are 4 of us in the family, me (34) , dh (34), dd(5) and dd(3). Would love to know of anyone who has girls the same age as mine!

We will be staying at the Sheraton at cocoa beach the night before the cruise and plan on getting to the port early on the 26th.

I checked on neenslovesdisney and he found the cruise meet for 3/26/09. Might be going on this also? I don't know.

:teleport:

We are flying in on Friday the 24th. How's everyone getting to the port? I rented a car at MCO and am returning it at the port and vica versa. It saved us around $100 by doing that and we have our own schedule.:thumbsup2 We did that last time also and it worked out very well. We haven't decided where to stay that night. We get in around 5 p.m. so we have plenty of time to get over to the port. Last time we dropped all our luggage at curbside check in at the port, dropped the car off and took the shuttle back to the port. When we disembarked, DH stayed with kids and luggage at curb while I took shuttle to car rental agency to pick up car. I was so relaxed from our trip that I wasn't even tempted to keep on driving...soooo, I went back and picked them up at the port!:lmao:

I dug out my Disney Cruise Line book today and started reading up on the 7 night cruises. They have a Tea with Wendy on 7 night cruises. That sounds like fun. I don't know if this fills up quickly or not, but it's nice to know beforehand so I can go Guest Services on the ship and book it, if that's where you book it. I know on our cruise they made Gingerbread houses. I happened to be at Guest Services doing something else when someone asked for tickets for the Gingerbread House event. I think that when I get onboard, I am going to ask Guest Services for a schedule of all the activities that are limited or that you need a ticket or reservation. I've never been on a 7 nighter...is there anything else I might be missing?

Amy2Girls: Thanks for the link for the buycostumes. Lots of pirate stuff on clearance right now too. In the long run, if you can get it on clearance it's a great buy because it saves so much time not having to hunt the stuff down to make a costume.

Does anyone have an unofficial roster of who is going of the cruise aside from the FE list? If so, can you PM me a copy. Many thanks:worship:

Hope everyone has a great day!

Linda

So much activity since I last dropped by!

Loving the name "Pirates of Tortola"

Since it sounds like everyone likes Pirates of Tortola, I made a logo for our cruise!! I hope you like it!

piratesoftortola.jpg

Feel free to add it to your signatures!! If you want a larger version to make a magnet or whatever, PM me with your e-mail address.

I hit Hyatt MCO tonight for 4/21 for $75.

Did you get this through Hotwire? And why 4/21? I'm assuming you're going to WDW for a few days then? We'll be staying at the Hyatt MCO on 4/25. I couldn't find it on Hotwire for that day but I'm having a hard time seeing the # of Tripadvisor reviews again. Where do they show up? We're actually got $150 in Hyatt gift certificates through MyPoints so we're just going with the AAA rate. It'll come out to $9 + tax! :cheer2:

We are definitely dressing up for Pirates Night! I mentioned this before but we bought our costumes on these web sites:

Laurie

Welcome, Laurie!! :wave2: It's not too late to join the FE list. We decided to have a cut off at 20 rooms and we only have 18 right now. It looks like you have 6 people so are you in 2 different cabins? lsutigger2 is keeping track of the list so she's going to need your cabin #'s if you know them and who is in which cabin along with their ages.

What is everybody's DH wearing on Formal Night???

DH is wearing a suit and tie. We are not spending $85 to rent a tux!!!

We are flying in on Friday the 24th. How's everyone getting to the port?

As I mentioned above, we are also flying in on Friday the 24th and staying at the MCO Hyatt. Our flight gets in around 9 pm. We're using DCL transfers to get to port. There's only 2 of us so the price isn't a big deal and I like the convenience.

Does anyone have an unofficial roster of who is going of the cruise aside from the FE list? If so, can you PM me a copy. Many thanks:worship:

I don't know if anyone is keeping track of this anymore, other than the list of people who will be coming to the meet for wristbands. Sandy is organizing that.

My DH and I arrive around 9:25, we are also using DCL transfers so I'm sure we will run into you in the lobby!

Love the new logo! Great job.

My DH who also wears a suit everyday will be dragging one along on the cruise for formal, semi formal and Palo. I'm the one who is scrambling for clothes, I hate shopping and don't have to dress up beyond business casual for work. My ideal of dressing for dinner is shorts and a tee! Oh well, off to help the U.S. Economy!

Mary

Yea! :sail: More new families! Welcome.

We are dressing up too - at least that is my plan -- DH may have other ideas...here is a pic of the "pirate" outfits we wore to the family reunion last year - kind of bulky, so we may not be able to bring it all - but it would be good to get another wear out of all this pirate stuff :) If DH says no way, then at least Ashley will be dressed in her pirate finest for the shindig!

Hi all,
I joined the group a while ago, but haven't really conversed with anyone, so thought i would reintroduce ourselves. Myself & DH 37, DS 9, DS 5. This will be our first DCL cruise. We are very excited.

I lurk on these boards every day. Not sure if it makes the time pass slower or faster.:confused3

My DS 9 asked me about joining in on a kids disboard. I didn't know there was one until someone else's recent post. Could someone help me out on how to find it. I think he would love to meet some other kids before we get on the ship.

TIA, Tracy

Yes, Hotwire. The reviews came up when you hit continue. It came up 34 days out. We are actually going to do Universal Studios this time. We love Hulk!:scared1: Just 1 night there with 2 days at parks then off to Holiday Inn at Orange Lake for the water park for 2 nights and we will drive to port Sat AM. We rented a car. It was cheaper than all of the transfers.

Love the logo!:cheer2:

Welcome Laurie and Bracy:yay: I also have DS who is 5 and DD who is 9.

DH is going to wear suit or sport coat that we have yet to buy! lol He is a jeans and polo shirt kind of guy.
