4/25/09 Magic - First Visit To Tortola!

dotheyes -Welcome! :wave2: Glad to hear you want to the FE list!

loveysbydesign - I've been reading about several things you can do in Tortola on your own. One popular thing is going to The Baths. From what I hear, it's pretty easy just to take a taxi there on your own.

TiszBear - According to the PassPorter book, DCL may or may not consider our cruise an "inaugral" cruise since only one port is new. In past inaugral cruises, they were given special fans to wave during the Sail Away Party and each stateroom received a gift. Either way, I wouldn't get my hopes up and then if they do something special, it'll be a pleasant surprise and if they don't, it won't be too much of a let down!

JEA2009 - I'm really excited about my FE gifts! I've wanted to post about them in the main forum but I'm worried it'll spoil the surprise for you guys! So I'm keeping quiet until we get back from the cruise!! :rolleyes1

Hi everyone, We may be changing to this cruise because of costs and I was wondering if there is something on the cheaper side as far as excursions go for Tortola to do with 3 kids...ages 9, 6 and almost 2. Do they have any types of Dolphin Encounters or anything offered that won't break the bank? Thanks so much!

Since this is our first cruise/first time in Tortola - I have no experience, but you can do the dolphin encounter on your own and save money that way. Just do a google search for that location and book directly with them. We were thinking of doing that ourselves, but we decided to go to The Baths instead. Maybe someone with more experience has a better idea.

...Anyone else spending some time before or after?...[[/
We booked three nights before the cruise, and one night after. We are going to visit 2 parks this time ( TICKETS ARE VERY EXPENSIVE FOR 6 OF US!!!) but like you, we will suck it up this year. We have always traveled down to Disney on some kind of special ( sometimes just upgrades on the tickets- free waterpark/hopper type thing) but this year ...NOTHING! We miss out on all the deals! Hoping for a room only discount for April. I received a 40% off pin code too, but April was not included!!!:crazy2:

Just thought I'd mention it cause I was in a similar situation back in 07. When getting tickets for a wrap around stay (stay, cruise, stay) you can get the tickets for both stays at once cause they are good for 16 days from first use. Back when I did this in 07 I was ready to get a 5 days worth of tickets then book a whole new ressie and get 2 days worth of tickets thus incurring the whole cost on the second set. A sharp, honest CM caught this because I decided to call and told me to just get 7 days all in one and that I'd have 16 days to use them. This saved me hundreds. If I had been my usual self and booked seperate reservations on-line I would have paid lots of extra $$$ for no reason. I think adding additional days to my 5 day tickets was next to nothing and we were a party of 6 so the savings was huge. This one has been my little disney secret that I like to share with everyone...

Hope this helps.

This web site, that lists private excursions, was recommended in another thread and they do have the dolphin swim in Tortola:

Hope that helps!

I'm trying to find some basic pirate wear for DH and myself. Any Idea's? I just really want a colorful vest and I can find fancy blouse to go under it. I don't want a full costume. Too much $$. Thanks

Yay! I'm glad you'll be dressing up for Pirate Night! :cheer2: We won't be the only ones!!

The best prices I found for costumes were these sites and where we bought our costumes:

http://www.orientaltrading.com (Definitely the cheapest out there)
http://www.piratesstore.com (A lot more selection)

Another place I looked was:

http://www.costumes4less.com
