Do you get the sense ship is safe for DD to navigate alone?? Thanks for you help.

Hi BubblesNH;

This will be our 4th Disney Cruise and I have to say that I never felt uncomfortable letting my boys run on the ship. Our last cruise in 2007, the boys were 9 and 12. The kids had their own Thread on the boards and all began talking prior to the cruise. Upon arrival at the terminal, they all met up and clicked. The kids spent the majority of the cruise all hanging together. They were out everynight until past midnight. Even with the difference in the ages, they all hung together. I know, a 9 yr old out until midnight..I felt like a bad mom! They would meet us for dinner and as soon as they were done..they were gone. Of course, we would see them all over the ship or one parent would inform the other that .."hey, yeah they went to the show" or "they are hanging by the pool" but we were comfortable that they were safe.. One night all of the kids went to dinner ALONE while the parents snuck off to Palo's! I have friends who always tell me that I am crazy for spending
so much money for a cruise..but I tell them that I am paying for peace of mind. I would never allow them to run on a Carnival or similar cruise. I know bad things happen everywhere but I do feel safer with Disney..(knock on wood)

Hey Paula... The kids are getting so excited and the texting has taken on a new level. I am so glad they have unlimited texting :cool1: Last cruise, Josh's phone bill was over $300.00 when we got back! LOL!

Let me know if you are still having problems with the Disney Material. I can pick it up here and send it off to you.

We have been freezing our butts off. I cannot wait until April!

Thanks Diane, My DD would love to talk with the other kids, she is 10 and looking for friends to hang with. Do we have a meet time at the terminal yet?

On our last trip...everyone had pictures of each other! So at the terminal, our friend was picking everyone out, LOL! They did a few meets once on the boat.. Paula (dvc2themax) would be able to shed more light on who & how that all got arranged. I was not a very good joiner!

This will be our first cruise alone (just our family). Both of our other families had to reschedule to different cruises due to conflicts. It will be me Diane
(41), John (43), Joshua (14) & Justin (11). My kids hung with dvc2themax's daughter (15) and dadlvsdisney daughter(15) and son (9?). (There were 2 other kids but they had to reschedule). I can only guess that they will pal around again this cruise. I will gladly introduce your daughter to my son.

I think the kids need to start chatting on their own Thread!

I you have any questions, I will gladly help you out! Just ask.

Diane

I'm the DD 14 of DVC2themax
I started the thread so us kids can start talking and get to know eachother!
Less than a year. We should get started ;)

Casey started a thread, only one other joined in at the beginning.

As to meeting in the terminal, people would post their pictures, and I see only one couple has :cheer2: Bob & Penny:cheer2: . I put all the pictures on powerpoint with their names, and while I was standing in line, my daughter was out seeing where everyone was. There was another person on the cruise, much like lsutigger2 that kept a list and said about meeting up.

We met at the port while everyone was waiting to board, then around 4:30, before the sail away cruise and after everyone had lunch, met in one of the areas with seats, and said hi and chattted a bit. A few people had met on the boards and made arrangemetns to get together due to the smaller kids and their parents wanting them to have a new friend on board to hang out with either at the play area or dinner to sit together.

You put out a message, to see who is interested, and see what comes back. Near the end, questions come up, fun ones, like who is your favorite disney character, just to keep the fun going.

As Diane said, some of the kids from the disboard parents met at the port, and hung around the entire time, even at dinner. 2 years later, my daughter Casey is talking to Diane's son Josh. When they left the cruise, Casey would talk to Josh during the night in order for their cell phone bill would be down, but did not always work :rotfl2:

As I mentioned a few pages back, people wanted to sit together that met on the disboards. They sat us in the same area, but it was 2 families together. One family was bythemselves, and I asked the waiter of our area if the table can be moved, and they had it done the next night. I loved our 2 waiters and they are worth every tip they get.

It was my birthday on the cruise, and my husband, Kip, had asked the maitre de if we could have lobster. We did not know they would be having lobster on formal night as we did not have menus (we do NOW as we took one of the menus :coffee: ) and OUR table had it as their was a "few" available before formal night. So I had lobster TWICE and loved every minute of it.

Ok, I know it is Saturday morning, but I need to go to work for a few hours and then I will figure how to post our picture and my fish extender that I made last weekend WITHOUT any sewing. Used the strip glue tape and an iron. Not only does it look nice, but crisp because of the ironing. Walmart and Jo ann fabrics did not have much for mickey material, but I found one that will work.

:cheer2: Midnight tonight!! Don't forget the 90 day mark for those who can start booking excursions etc...:thumbsup2

Thanks for the kids thread, I will point Amanda to it.
We don't have a room assignment yet. I will keep you posted. Hoping for the upgrade fairy to visit.
Are there any 5 year old boys? Connor is looking for a buddy in clubs?
Thanks Michelle:badpc:

Did anyone else notice that the Tortola excursions for "Tour to Virgin Gorda" and "Day at the Baths" have the exact same description but different durations and prices?? Any ideas on the difference?

I was just checking that out too. The "Day at..." leaves at 8:45am and includes lunch, returning at 2:45pm. The "Tour.." doesn't leave until 12:30pm, and doesn't include lunch. It also doesn't return until 4:30.

Since all aboard on Tortola is 5:30, I guess it depends on when you want to do any sightseeing or shopping on Tortola itself - morning or afternoon?

I also wonder when the Baths would be more crowded, before or after lunch?

I think right now we are planning on springing for the admittedly expensive lunch just so we can get over to Virgin Gorda earlier and then hit Road Town on our return. But we could be convinced otherwise...

Here's another tidbit - The same day we are in Tortola, the Royal Carribbean Grandeur of the Seas will also be there. While it is one of RC's smaller boats, it's still another 2446 people on the streets of Road Town. And from what I understand, Tortola can get crowded with even one boat in port.

(Click here for the GotS itinerary)

However, the nice thing is that they are leaving at 1:00pm :wave2: , so Road Town will be considerably less crowded in the afternoon.:thumbsup2

That settles it - we're doing the Baths in the morning, even if it is costing an extra $20pp for a burger and a drink, and enjoying the considerably less crowded streets of Road Town in the afternoon ::yes::

Well I see others are up early making those plans. Mine are done!
(Thanks Charlie and Gus:dog: :dogdance: who insist on getting up at 6:00am to eat no matter what the day of the week!!)

I got a Palo reservation for my DH's birthday. So I'm very happy about that.

Thanks for sharing the information about Tortola and the other cruise ships. We are doing the X-BOB underwater scooter excursion in the morning. So we should have a good time shopping in the afternoon.

Happy planning to all !!

I was up at 2am trying... but the system was jamed or not working:badpc: ... but all is well:thumbsup2 , I tried again this am and got palo bruch for the 26th for DH's b-day and we book the sail, snorkel and beach for tortola!:cool1: :cheer2:

Ok, for the NON sewers out there, this was all done with sticky paper, and an iron, and writing tube with glitter in the color.

Was able to get Palo for brunch on day 6, & dinner on day 2:cool1: :cheer2:
