Cast of characters, Me, 40 DH 38, DS 6 1/2 and DS 2 1/2. First Disney cruise for all of us, DH and I have cruised other lines before.
We wake up on the first morning of the cruise, Key West day, at 5:30 AM. Due to the fact that DS 2 1/2 fell asleep at dinner, he is also awake before sunrise. I offer to take him for a stoll and quickly dress and grab stroller so DH and DS 6 1/2 can continue to sleep. The ship is very cool to explore when everyone is still asleep. After 20 min or so, the only people I had come across were one man in the hot tub and another sleeping in a lounger on deck 5 over looking the atrium.
I went up for coffee and it was still brewing! So, I grab coffee and head to deck 4 where I walked a few laps with stroller and then watched the sun rise. By this time there were some others exercising around the track.
We had our character breakfast this morning at Parrot Cay. This was great fun, one of the highlights of the trip for us. My DS 2 1/2 fell hard for Minnie and followed her around. She hugged him and flirted right back! Although we had a great table right in the middle, we were the very last table to have Mickey come around. We got great pictures, and Gabor made a Minnie bow for my head from a napkin and plopped it on my head.
After that it was up to the pools for a day of swimming. While DS 6 1/2 had a blast and enjoyed both the Mickey pool and the Goofy pool with my DH. I had the job of convincing my 2 1/2 yr old that the pool for toddlers in diapers was the best thing going and to play there and not in the pools meant for older, potty trained children. I was surprised that while he was upset at first, he totally got it after that first day and had a lot of fun playing with his plastic toys in the fountains.
There is a CM that watches over the Mickey slide and that same CM has the job of patrolling diapered chidren and their parents. I can tell you that the CM was very strict and you also couldn't sit on the edge of the pool with any kind of drink. (yep, I got yelled at for this)
After we arrived at Key West, I went into town alone to explore a little and also to buy a 12 pk of Diet Coke. I also bought a bottle of rum to drink onboard since I forgot all my wine and rum back home. We did buy the less expensive wine package and that worked out well anyway. While I was in Key West, my DH bought a drink sticker and mug for my son. Guess he wasn't paying attention when I told him I was getting the Diet Coke! We did use the sticker too, just spending money everywhere. I didn't do much else in Key West, walked around for about an hour, checked out "Peppers" a store that sold hot sauces, got some, and a tee shirt. The sun was very hot that day. Got back onboard, and DH went into Key West for an hour while DS 6 went to the club and DS 2 napped with me.
After dinner we went up to Deck 10 to watch the sunset and the people below and saw a man juggling fire. Pluto was up on 10 and we got a picture with him and the sun setting behind us. At sunset, the horn on the Magic played and both my kids were freaked out because we were standing right beside it when it went off.
So, we headed to the "Who wants to be a Mouseketeer" show and based on tips I read here, we sat in row Z, hoping to be picked. After opening announcments, I moved to row X, because it was completely empty. Row Z was called first and my son was the lucky one! Parents have to go up with children, so we went up and did pretty well, answering 6 questions right. The question that we missed was "In which theme park is Pooh's honey hunt?". I wasn't sure if it was Disneyland or Disney Tokyo, (I knew it wasn't Disney Paris or Disneyworld), so we used a lifeline and polled the audience. I guess nobody has been to Tokyo, because everyone clapped for Disneyland, and that wasn't it.
Anyway, it was exciting to play and we won $80 onboard credit and a collectable Mouseketeer pin for being a contestant.:earseek:
After that we went to Studio Sea for family Kareoke, but after the boys sang the only song they both know, DH said you could only hear me singing the whole time. It was fun anyway! Off to bed where we had a towel animal shaped like an elephant wearing my sunglasses. And my DS, 6, who kept singing, "A dream is a wish your heart makes" because there was a picture with those words in our room. What a character!
