Cast of characters, me, 40, DH, 38, DS 6 1/2 and DS 2 1/2. First Disney cruise.
First day at sea, we wake up slowly today with a call from Mickey! I loved that part. We went to Lumieres for the sit down breakfast, were seated with a very nice family with a toddler son like ours, that was fine except that I'm not sure that the other family spoke much English. I had the eggs benedict, it was just OK, I do love being served my coffee over and over again, and we stocked up on chocolate milk for bedtime later. I didn't know this, but you can request your regular waiters for breakfast.
Back at the room, I watched the movie, Big Fish, which I had been wanting to see, and then it was over to the Oceaneers club with DS 2 1/2 while DH took the 6 yr old up to the pool. At first, my 2 yr old liked the club. (he can go in if parent is with him). He climbed all over and we waited for Mickey to arrive. Then, something set him off, I think it may have been the canon that you could fire, not sure, but he just wanted out of there and would not come back all week.
I went back to the room, ordered room service for us. Pizza for him and two tomato soups, (very yummy) and manacotti for me. The pasta was about all there was except pizza. This was just OK. I ordered the cheese platter and cookies after that but didn't do a meal there after that. The best part is all the extras, nuts and crackers, these came in handy for snacks at the movies, and at the pool.
DH came back to nap with boys, and I went off to the wine tasting. It was held in Sessions, a bit formal, and I'm afraid I wasn't quite dressed for it. I also think I was the only one without a spouse! If you know a Reisling from a Cabernet, you may want to skip this one. The best part was the "swording" of the champange, which was a special label just for Disney, I think he said, a glass for everyone, I later saw that cost more that the wine tasting, so I guess that alone was worth it!
That night was our formal night, we went up early for pictures with the Mickey statue, I got frustrated when Lumieres opened up their doors just as our turn came and it took forever to wait for people to notice that they were walking through our picture to go in. I'm sorry I don't remember all the dinner selections, but I do remember that most of them were so much better than the food you find at Disney World, several of us asked our waiters how this could be. He said that it is the teamwork that they have on the ship.
This was our first night to use the nursery, Flounders. DS 6 went to the club, and the 2yr old to Flounders. At first he was not happy, but they have a big two way mirror that you can check on your child and when we stopped back a little later he was having a blast! Nights after that he was clapping his hands and running to get in there! We went to Golden Mickeys and it was a great show! (Our favorite) I now wish I had made my 6 yr old attend, but he was so excited to go to the club that we just let him.
Now we got to try the adult areas! First we went to sessions, had martini's and listened to the piano music while watching the ocean. James, from Jamaica was our server there, he was so nice, telling us about how much the staff enjoy working on the ship and how Disney trys to make it fun, with their own lounge and tug of war games, etc. The night before we had tried the promanade lounge with the kids and their piano bar, but this was so much better!
After that we went up to Palo for a drink and really got to know Kristian. There was also Kristoff and Kris, and we laughed about all the Kris's working at Palo! I asked Kristian if we might be able to get a reservation at Palo for the next night (Tues) and he suggested we call that day, say we overheard someone say that they cancelled and we could probably get in. (This worked like a charm!
)
After that it was off to Rockin D bar for 70's night! No way was I going to miss this after Barb's reports on how much fun it is! One of the women that did Gloria Gaynor sat next to us at dinner and one was next to us at Golden Mickeys. It is really amazing how these "Moms" come out of their shell! We had a blast there, I was also surprised to see MORE food spread out at the entrance of the bar as a late night snack for everyone. At midnight it was off to pick up the kids and bed.
