4/24/2010 Med cruise: Friends, Romans, Countrymen lend me your Ears

We're still showing cat 11 GTY.:)

I'm not holding my breath that we'll get up to a 9, but I am hoping!! I'm really curious how much an upgrade would be at the port.

Our last 4 night going from an 11 to an 8 in port was $140.

This is my 5th DCL cruise, and it would be the first time in an inside cabin. I can do it, but this is a long cruise, so I'm a little nervous!!

We are also cat 11 gty (of course:). I've had cat 10, seen 9 (my Mom's), Cat 7 and cat 5.

The good news is, the inside cabins are way more spacious that you would think...compared to other lines, they seem huge! We had an inside on the Ruby in December and we were tripping over each other. Of course, I am wishing for a window or verandah also, but dh and I discussed it and we would rather spend money on "stuff" on the trip rather than upgrading at port, so unless we get a truly suckish location, I don't even think we'll try to upgrade. That way, we'll have another half day in Barcelona :thumbsup2. We are traveling sans kids, so as DH pointed out, it will be easy to go out to a couple of deck chairs and enjoy outside!

Weirdly, too, I think I prefer cat 7 Verandahs, I really liked the built in window seat, and I like a bit of privacy. It also seems that you couldn't really see the ocean sitting down very well on a normal verandah, it isn't clear like glass, so I think if I pay for a verandah again, I'll go for the navigator verandah.

I crafted my fish extender last week...my dh looked at me like I was absolutely nuts. I think he especially liked the black feather boa as a hanger :rotfl:

Oh, and I would love a balcony, but I actually prefer the layout of the inside cabins...I like having the sitting area first and the bed in the back of the room.

Hi like others on the boards checking daily to see if room allocated 12 GTY. not too bothered what we get - have never been in inside room before - 1st cruise upgraded to cat 6 from 9, 2nd cruise paid for cat 6, 3rd cruise upgraded to cat 4 from 6 - think disney know what they are doing - once youve got a taste for the verandah and room size seems less likely you'll downgrade next cruise.

However this is an extra vacation - Disney World in July - so we would not have been going if we didnt get a bargain. I think it will be nice to try the inside rooms with the different living / sleeping arrangement. Unlike in Carribean I dont think we will be sitting on verandah - come to think of it didnt sit much on the verandah anyway. Was nice to stand out on approaching the ports though.

Query re Fish extenders gifts - is it one per room or one per person?

Lynne

I have been in every category room, but only stayed in 8 and 9's. My inlaws and parents both are in cat 5's for this cruise, so we can certainly visit their verandahs!:cool1:

The thing that concerns me about inside rooms is that we'll lose track of time with no daylight ever coming in.

That is what I think the virtual portholes on Dream are such a stroke of genius!!

WOW!!:cool1: Just found out we were upgraded from cat 10 to 5. Now we are in 7020 from 7005. Seems like the boat is not that full as this is the second time out of what is to be our 6th cruise that this has happened.

For those experiencing an inside room for the first time just want to let you know we like it because everyone sleeps so well because of the lack of daylight.

As I am very happy for you and your upgrade I really don't think it is sair to those who booked CAT 9's and up who did not get upgraded. DCL really needs to come up with a better system. This is just CRAZY! Charlotte I know this is going to be a sore spot for you.

Again, congrats on the upgrades but there has to be a better way. Actually there is a better way...it needs to be more of an elevator system...insides to windows, windows to verandah's etc...

We just booked last week, is it to late to play?

Welcome!

Whoo hoo!!! That's fantastic news :thumbsup2 Congratulations! And good luck to everyone else.

I was working on the FE groups last night (on the website) - trying to balance # of people, kids, etc. - so don't take them as the LAST WORD - although I doubt I'll do anything more than add the final cabin to each.

I, too, would take an extreme upgrade - wouldn't turn down such good fortune.

However, how empty is a ship that can upgrade 5 cabins? Where are the people who would have booked 9, 8, 7, and 6? This isn't a ghost cruise, is it?

I wonder if the Baltic Cruise prices include some of the cost of getting this near empty ship to Europe and around the Med before school summer breaks start?

Looks good Lynne, I don't really think there's any need to make any other changes other than to add new participants.

We just join this cruise. Looking forward to meeting you. My DW and DD are joining me.

Nicely put Stephanie.
I'll have to pay just so I can stay in the same room.
Charlotte--I am so sorry this has worked out so badly for you guys.

Think I'll go cut out some Mickey heads to get in the mood.

Makes a lot of sense to me :)

Thanks for doing it Lynne!

Maybe you are right, I would sure love to take the Baltic, but way too expensive!
