4/24/2010 Med cruise: Friends, Romans, Countrymen lend me your Ears

Lynne, were there votes for the other designs other than the "finalists"? Perhaps we could do a second round vote? I'm really quite easy with regard to the logos, I like them all! My one and only request would be to have La Spezia as the port rather than Florence Pisa as we're going to cinque terre instead, but even that I could live without.

I do like the nametag for our latest design though Lynne!

If we were to go ahead with Lanyards, how much time to we need? It seems like this cruise is creeping up on us.

Julie, congrats on getting your Palo reservations. This is for all who've been on a Disney cruise. How long does Palo dinner usually take? And what time are the shows for the main seating? Have no idea what time I should be looking for in terms of time slots. I guess I'll be taking whatever is left anyway, if there are any slots left!

I didn't see a vote, where was it? Are the choices on the website?

Here was the link to the poll (with the results, might be easier to just look at the numbers than my trying to describe it). Not a lot of votes, so I'm taking it as we're just an easy-going bunch.

Florence-Pisa : on one design I played with, I put Florence-Pisa-Cinque Terra, just because I knew you were going there. I know we are technically pulling into Civitavecchia (but no one besides cruisers would even know what that is - I hope I have no memories of that place - because that would mean an incident happened there - just of Rome. My rationale for putting places visited, not docks).

I like the blue Aladdin name tag, too. I think I do better work on name tags than logos. Might be because there's less words & stuff, and I like it simpler (unlike my posts, which are rather wordy :rolleyes1)

Lanyards should take a few weeks. Once we get a theme (words) nailed down (I think we've pretty much picked Magic in the Mediterranean) and a color, we can move on with this. We should only need a batch of 100, based on the number I counted on the cruisers' list.

Lynne,

Could you please tell me a little about the brunch meet? I went to the web page but I did not understand about DCL cancelling your existing reservation. Is that only if you have another brunch reservation? Does it mess with your dinner reservation? Also can you tell me what day it will be on?

The web page you created for the cruise is great! You sure have put a lot of time into it. Just wanted to say thank you for all of your hard work.

My husband & I will be joining you on this cruise. I am just learning the computer and am not sure that I can participate without the help of my daughter, but this is a try. This is our 40th anniversary cruise. We would like to be a part of the dis board group, just not quite sure how to do it.

I totally forgot about the Brunch Bunch aspect when booking for the TA last night! Thank you.

If your name is submitted as a member of a group dining in Palo's private dining room and the group is given a time, then DCL normally drops your individually-reserved meal of the same type (brunch for brunch). However, you are allowed one pre-booked meal of each type (brunch and tea and dinner).

So, no, a Brunch Bunch does not affect Dinner.

Capiche?

Lynne

Wow! It worked!! I am so proud of myself. Just know that I am lurking out here.

Susan,

Welcome to this cruise, too.

I'm doing BTB with my niece, as are

Stephanie and family (Brooklyn)

Jeanne and family (grlzmom)

John & Charlotte (Happy Goofy)

:welcome: Susan and DH!! Congratulations on your 40th!! My DH and I (along with our two DSs will be celebrating our 20th on the cruise (although not official until July) :)

Hope everyone is having a nice weekend.

I inquired specifically what was DCL recommending for earliest airline departure times from Barcelona (if booking air on your own of course) for the cruise. DCL official word is 12:30 specifically for our cruise. This time may vary by cruise date.

So I guess I can't book my Air Lingus 10:45 flight for fear of missing it. Maybe we will book Air Berlin the next day but also getting a DCL quote.

Welcome Susan!

:welcome:

Congratulations on your anniversary, as well.

dh and I will only be at 20 in 2011, no Disney cruise for us, though. The kids would mutiny.

Julie

Belinda,

It's easier to get dinner than anything else, because they have it every night, and there are more seatings. I think last time it took dh and me about two hours or so. We had a 6:00 (earliest possible) and still made it to our 8:15 dinner with the kids. We didn't eat, though.

And they always hold back some reservations for different levels of pre-booking, and some for booking on the ship. We'll all have to get to port really early that day. :thumbsup2 I'm sure my kids will be dragging me out of the hotel at dawn.

Julie

Welcome Susan!

Julie, thanks for the info. Might feed the kids in the room and shuffle them off to the kids club before we go then.

Jeanne, we're catching a 1025 flight back to Sydney. Yes call us crazy. Having said that, we're not heading to the US so security restrictions/requirements may be the same. We're more than likely to be able to get the airport 3 hours before departure time and that's how long we usually factor in before our international flights. Wish us luck! I had a LONG international phone call with the managers of guest services and ground transportation, PM me if you want the details.

Belinda,

Sending you a pm!

Then I'm keeping my 10:45 am flight, right? And not having to pay change fees to make it May 6.

Lynne

Belinda-

We're looking at an 11:00 flight.
Just sent you a pm.

Thanks,
Julie

Lynne, do you know what Air Lingus policy is if we are booked and miss it? I am going to wait about a week and see if I can find out what time DCL is scheduling guests for flights. If they can get to the airport so can I.

I personally think I can make the flight, however, DCL official policy is recommend earliest flight departure of 12:30, I was told "specifically" for our cruise.

Do you think that there will be any changes to airport arrival times or security measures coming up because of the December Detroit incident?

Okay, now we're starting to get serious.

My biggest worry is missing the connection in London or Madrid (depending on airline) with new security, so we'll be staying another night.

Anyone have a suggestion on a hotel close to the airport?

Thanks.
Julie

For those of you who are planning a tour of Pompei, I have just spent over an hour on a virtual tour at this web site. It is amazing. www.thecolefamily.com/italy/pompeii Slides and commentary take you through the entire city. Looks like more than half day. A little sad and creepy though, I did not expect to see plaster casts of the people who died in place when the city was buried.

I've seen that before. Pretty weird.

We're still undecided on that day. I'm never this disorganized.

Julie

Okay, it's serious.

Paid for flights today, British Air. Not as good a price as I wanted, but I think they might have gone up a little since the last time I looked, and I panicked.

Now I need ground transportation, and to arrange tours in Tunis and Naples.

Hope everyone is doing well, and everyone in the US isn't too cold.

Julie
