I love reading trip reports and hope that mine will entertain someone out there. Cast: me (33), DH (36), DS (6) It was a fabulous trip and it sucks being back in reality! Where's the room service? Where's the chocolate souffle? Where's my deck 4 comfy lounger?
April 16- Flight from LA on time-no problems. Arrived early (3:30) and met Bobby, the driver from ******** transportation. Made us walk to prkng lot bcuz would take too long for him to drive around.
Quick drive to Radisson. DS fell asleep in car. Nice hotel. Disorganized front desk. Staff ok-no greeting or information volunteered. Get what you pay for. Big room but it has HIDEOUS color scheme-pink & green "Caribbean". Very nice pool. Had a dip while we waited for buffet to open. Good dinner buffet: Mexican, seafood, grilled fish & steak, grilled corn on cob. DS had nachos & beef fajitas & chocolate cake. Went in the hot tub in room after dinner. Chilled & watched tv til bed.
April 17- DS woke @ 3am & up for hour or so. We all got up @ about 8:30. Packed up & went to breakfast buffet. Checked out. Radisson shuttle to port on time. Boarded ship @ noon. DH to Palo res/me to spa res. Got all appts we wanted (Palo brunch & dinner and cabana massages). Signed DS up in Club. All done by 1:00. Waited for room to be ready & saw Mickey walking around. 1:30 - room ready. Good location nr. mid elevators. Nice to have the big window. Didn't go to lunch buffet-not hungry. Changed to swimsuits so DS could hit the slide. Got hot dog & fries by pool. Went on 2:30 walking tour w/crew member, Dominic. He didn't have any more info than disboards. Thanks, guys!
Chilled in room until drill @ 4:00pm. Had to do drill on outside deck 4. Not too bad. Back to room until dinner.
Dinner in Parrot Cay. Servers Leeroy from Jamaica & Lisa from Scotland. Sat w/family from Maine. Good food. Crab newburg, fruit salad, ribeye, creme brulee cheesecake. DS-chicken fingers w/fries and mixed veggies. DH-crab newburg, salad, mixed grill. Took DS to Club for Aloha Luau w/Stitch. Went to Cove Cafe & met bartenders Lourdes & Anthony (super nice). Showed DH Diversions (DH ended up there a lot!). He was hungry & got a bratwurst @ Pluto's. Cold outside so went back to room to eat. Beds were turned down but no towel animal. Went to get DS @ 10 (he said Stitch destroyed the place) & went to shop. DS bought pirate hat & toys. Back to room. Ordered cookies & warm milk. Mmmm. Got into bed @ 11:00. Read til 12:30. Slept ok but closet door kept sliding bcuz of the rocking.
April 18-Woke up @ 5:00 but went back to sleep til about 7:00. DS & DH slept til about 8. Breakfast @ Topsiders. Boat's rocking today. Temp says 81 but really windy & feels cooler. Surf 8-12 ft! Dropped off DS @ Club. DH went to gym. I went to Art of Entertaining: appetizer-crab & sticky rice rellenos. Bland. Left early & went to Quiet Cove pool. WINDY!! Stayed there as long as I could. Went to Shutters to see the 1st days pics.
Lunch @ Lumieres w/DH. Nice & quiet. Had tuna salad & barley potato soup. Creme caramel for dessert. After lunch, still too windy outside. Went to Cove Cafe to read magazines. Really like it there.
3:00 picked up DS from Lab. Went to Mickey pool & slide. He only went down a few times. They had to close the Mickey pool bcuz the water was sloshing around so much. Back to the room and ordered cheese tray and cookies from room service. Watched Fantasia 2000.
Got ready for dinner. Went down to atrium a little early (5:15) and took pics w/couple different backgrounds. Beat the crowds. Took pics w/Donald & Daisy. Met Captain Tom & DS got his autograph. Formal dinner in Lumiere's. Finally met head waiter, Jeff. Good food again. Escargot, green salad, herb-crusted cod w/spinach. DS-pizza w/fries & corn. DH-escargot, salad, lamb shank w/polenta. Creme brulee for me & Grand Marnier souffle w/choc.sauce for DH. After dinner, met Snow White for pics. DS grumpy about waiting around. Then, Golden Mickeys. It's as good as they say. Erased our bad mood. Changed clothes & went to Studio Sea for Walk the Plank w/Peg Leg Craig. Funny show. DS got to take a pic w/him after. Back to the room for snacks from room service-cheese tray, chicken noodle soup, cookies and milk.
April 19-Room service breakfast today. Just a little something until Palo brunch. 10:00 took DS to club. They were up on sports deck. Much nicer day today. Still windy, but warmer. Missed the Art of Entertaining desserts bcuz kids' club sign-in line was so long. On to Palo-amazing buffet! Something wrong w/ a/c - really hot inside at first. Food was incredible. Cracked crab legs, yay! Stollen bread w/whipped cream & berries. DH had beef tenderloin & half an eggs benedict. I had eggs florentine. Couldn't finish dessert so they let us take home a strawberry tart & sticky bun. So full it hurts! Went to Shutters to see our pics. DH went to rest, then the gym. I changed & laid out on 10. Picked up DS @ 2 for Hercules. They had been doing pirate stuff & he had an eyepatch & scar drawn on his face. Great show-hilarious. Liked it so much we decided to see it again at 8:30. After the show, went to 9 to see Minnie & Pluto. 3:45 Tea w/Wendy. DS got picked to be one of her brothers! Tables in Studio Sea laid out w/ cold sweet tea & choc chip cookies. Wendy told the story of Peter Pan & then signed autographs & took pics. Hit the Mickey pool. DS got sloshed around a bit. Had fun. Back to the room to change for dinner @ Animator's. Only ok tonite. Smoked salmon w/potato appetizer, grilled sirloin (little tough). DH had veal chop & liked it a lot. DS-meatloaf. Cheesecake, choc cake, & strawberry shortcake. Got autographs from Pinocchio & the Genie then saw Herc again. Still funny. DS wanted to go to club so we went to see the juggler (corny) & Match Your Mate (funny). Got DS @ 11:30. On to bed.
April 20-When we woke up today, we were docked in St. Maarten. Had a Mickey wake up call but we were already up. Topsiders for breakfast. Off the ship around 8:30. Shared a taxi to the Butterfly Farm. Getting hotter & quite humid. The farm was a neat place. The Disney cruise group came right after us so we listened to their tour. DS not feeling well. We got some juice & sat down for a bit. Saw more b-flies, bought 2 toys, asked for a cab. Waited about 30 minutes. Caught a ride back to the dock w/family on RC Explorer. Golden Princess is also in port. Back onboard to relax in a/c. DS watched cartoons; DH went to gym. I started laundry. Ordered room service & I got mac & cheese, Yum! DS had cheeseburger & fries. Took him to club & organized digital pics while laundry finished . Once done I went to Quiet Pool. Quiet Pool is great. DH & I had room service-chili, manicotti, pb&j, chicken noodle soup. DH went to take pics while I finished watching Under the Tuscan Sun. Bleah! To Shutters to buy some pics. DS had dinner w/club then we all saw Home On The Range. Movie was not Disney's best. After, DH went to Diversions; DS went to Goofy's pj party. I watched the kids for a while then went back to the room. Picked up DS at 9:45 to go to the Tropicalifragilisticexpialidocious deck party. We danced up a storm. Music was fun & it wasn't cold tonight. Back home for a cookie & sleep.
April 21-Up early today for immigration. Very orderly. Done before 7:30. Breakfast @ Lumiere's today. Slow service. On to St. Thomas & the Skyride. Overcast & not too hot today. View from top is beautiful. Spent a little time looking around & taking pics. Back down to the ship so DS could go swimming a little before making Flubber in the lab. DH & I went to Havensight to do the requisite souvenir shopping. Back onboard & to the pool. Love that Quiet Pool. Fell asleep for a while. Changed for dinner @ Lumiere's & picked up DS. We had some time to kill so we walked around the jogging track & deck 10. Not a great dinner tonight. I had soft shell crab (too much batter), lobster bisque (too salty), Mediterranean seafood stew (yum), & apple pie ala mode
. DH-Thai scallops (good), bisque, prime rib, & same dessert. DS had pb&j & strawberry ice cream w/choc. sauce. Leeroy brought extra appetizer of quesadillas-yummy. We went to see Rich Purpurra's family magic show. Kids loved him. He was hilarious. Then we went to WWTBAM. No one won more than $80. DS went to club so DH & I could watch Rich's adult show. More comedy than magic-the latecomers got nailed. DH went back to room. I shopped a little before getting DS. Gotta get up for the character b-fast tomorrow so we all went to sleep.
April 22-Today is our character breakfast in Parrot Cay. Wild in there. They should make it like @ the resorts where you go thru buffet first then characters come out. Too hard for servers to maneuver. Lots of stuff today while at sea. Vacation is coming to an end
DS wants to be in club all day. They had so much good stuff he didn't even want to go swimming! Went to see what they were making in the Art of Entertaining entree presentation but it was yucky so instead sat in comfy deck 4 chairs to read (nap). Got passes for galley tour @ 2:45. Changed into swimsuit & headed to deck 10. A little drizzle started so I went to Cove Cafe for a hot cocoa & reading. Sun came out shortly & I found a chaise @ Quiet pool. They were serving shrimp cocktails & caesar salad poolside. Ate, read, dozed-aaahhh. :sleep: Got some lunch @ Topsiders & went back to the room to eat. Watched ice carving @ Goofy pool then back to deck 4 chairs until the tour. Galley tour was very interesting. Went thru Lumiere's & PC & even got a cookie. Checked on DS @ sports deck. Didn't want to leave, of course. Did a little shopping. DS beeped me while I was chatting w/Donna, the future cruise salesperson. He wanted to go to the pool. He swam for a while & got a taco for his dinner. DS went back to the club while we went to AP for lobster dinner. I had grilled shrimp, salad w/smoked duck & pine nuts, & lobster. DH had baked clams, mushroom soup & lobster. Leeroy brought us extra clams & extra fettucini w/scallops. We were so stuffed we didn't have dessert. Wait til the midnight dessert buffet. Went to Shutters to get pics from character b-fast. Changed clothes & watched Gary the rock & roll comedian (kinda lame). Picked up DS for Disney Dreams. Great show. DS wanted to go back to club & we went back to the room. DH fell asleep. I watched Haunted Mansion for a little while then picked up DS. We took some pictures & hit the desserts. It was very beautiful. We took the plate back to the room. Nothing like a low cal bedtime snack!
April 23-Slept in today. Room service breakfast. Huge crowd waiting to get off the ship. Got off around 10:00 & walked to Monstro's Point to drop off DS. Took the tram to Serenity Bay. Lounged around until massage time. Cabana massage was heavenly! After waking from our coma, we ate a little @ Airbar. Took tram back to sports beach. Only a few families there. Water was freezing! Read, napped. Got out of the sun b4 I could burn. Over to Cookie's for lunch. Lobster patties were tasty, bbq ribs good too. Thought I would buy something @ Sea Sells but no. To Scuttle's to get DS. They were playing w/ water & bubbles. DS was covered in that fine, sticky sand. Dragged him away & showered off most of the sand. Back to the nice cool ship. Got a real shower & our last room service. Also started the laundry. DS had to go to the club for show rehearsal. I left message @ Palo to see if we could go @ 6 instead of 7. Went down to WD theater to see kids show, Discover the Magic. DS did great! He went back to club & we got in early @ Palo's. Probably one of the best meals ever. Server Kristoff-awesome (he's from Belgium and looks like Colin Farrell). Had bread w/3 dipping sauces-olive tapenade, garlic aioli, sweet pepper. Also prosciutto & parmesan. Appetizers-seared ahi w/ginger noodles & fried calamari. Plus extra grilled shrimp. Entrees-filet mignon & seafood risotto. Desserts-2 chocolate souffles. Plus extra tiramisu & panna cotta w/berries. Yeah, baby! Back to room for packing. DH stayed but I went to walk around. Saw the final character appearance. Picked up signed pillowcase. Turned out nice. Lobby was packed. Stayed a little in club w/DH to finish watching Hercules. Back to room for last sleep @ sea.
April 24-What can I say? Last day is always sad. B-fast at Parrot Cay. Our tablemates didn't come (turned out their son was sick). Gave out our tips. We didn't give the head server the full amount. Just felt it wasn't justified, imho. We saw him twice over 7 days. And once was just to give us the "excellent speech". Happy w/our servers though they weren't the showy type, just professional and friendly. Off the ship by 8:15 and caught our car back to the Hyatt at the airport. Had lots of time to kill til our 4:00 flight. Nice place, the Hyatt. Good shops at the airport too. All too soon, the Magic is done for now. Can't wait to hear if rumors of California sailings are true. I hope so!
