Yvet - were swimming lessons in school a national program or just required by your town or school district?

It used to be a national program (that was when is was young;)).

Then they (the government) started saving money and it wasn't national anymore.
Some schools decided that they thought it was so important to have kids learn to swim in a country surrounded by water that these schools kept on continuing the swimming lessons.
But the government kept on going cutting costs so the schools had to cut on classes and the swimming lessons disappeared totally

The same happened to the art classes and gym classes are cut in half.

Hmmm, sounds like the US but include music and school libraries as well. :sad2:

I'm looking for a pair of "water sandals". I have a pair of those shoes for the water with the mesh on top that you can get at Wally World, but I'd rather have ones that are like sandals are they are a bit more attractive. If I'm going to the pool or spa, I'd rather wear them (sandals) than regular shoes.

Any ideas where to look or what they might be called?

Kristi

How about these? You could wear them for excursions too.....

P.S. I know I seems like the poster child for Lands End....but I don't even shop there that often.

Hey Kristi -

You mean like Tevas, then? Sandals, good for water/spa/sand, good for casual walking? Derek and Mark swear by their Tevas. Here's an example: http://www.teva.com/ProductDetails.aspx?g=w&categoryID=425&productID=6465&model=Pretty+Rugged+2

Skechers made some sandals like you described that I wear, but alas, no where to be found.

I'd suggest maybe DSW or Kohls?

-Steve

I have a pair of Tevas and the Land's End Trekkers. Although I really like both of them, if you are looking for water shoes these both have fabric straps that do not dry all that quickly. I have a pair of Croc sandals (I'm not sure if they make them anymore) that work perfectly for beach type shoes.:thumbsup2 They are dry within seconds and I don't worry about them getting wet.

I love my Tevas! I get them at REI. In general, REI has a really nice selection of water sandals. My friend Kat swears by her Keen, but I'm a Teva girl :thumbsup2

Tadpole, minnow, flying fish, shark - different levels of swim classes for the YMCA pools.

I remember taking swim class in 2nd grade. We took bus over to middle school that had a pool twice a week. The highest level was shark and I was one of three that were in this catagory. There is a swim club in the neighborhood and I joined the swim team for much of my young life. I remember the first race I was in where I came in first with the butterfly stroke. My DS learned how to swim in school as well as this was part of PE class. My DH does not swim per say but can float so snorkling is right up his alley.

I updated my post on page 1 to add the knitting group info.

Greetings again.

Looking to make hotel reservations in Barcelona for a few nights after the cruise ends. Would appreciate any recommendations and why. I imagine staying somewhere in the city close to public transportation would be ideal, but not somewhere that is "sketchy" for families.

Much appeciated.

I see my name on the fish extender group on the first page ...so all set there.

Re: Secret Mickeys
I cannot send private messages, not enough postings.
I tried e-mailing Michelle, but I kept getting error messages.
So I guess for Secret Mickey I better post the necessary details here, within reason.

This will be my first cruise, ever, anywhere. Too late for a practice run...
hope I'm not jumping off a cliff into the deep ocean, I can't swim (literately).

I was a History Major, into Historical anything. Also a Rennaissaance devotee.
Not a crafty person so I would appreciate door magnets/decor so my door doesn't look barren and lonesome.

Thanks to all, looking forward to meeting the group.

Hello, Try HOTELS.COM. I found 3 and 4 star hotels for about $75.00 a night. Good website. maps/photos and reviews too.

There was also Pollywog 1 and 2 -

I swim but refused to put my face in the water like they wanted so I never passed that level :)

But I and the kids swim great - we have a pool.
