QOTD: Have you ever eaten lobster? Will you partake of it if it is on one of our special dinners?

I don't enjoy lobster, or most seafood for that matter. I will be skipping this entree, but that means more for the lobster lovers!

Yes.... my son and I both love Lobster and dont indulge often outside of a cruise...so we usually DO get it. However, last time aboard there were some spices on it my son did not like..and I HAD to eat his too (so sad) . Dont worry...he suffered with Filet Mingon :cool1:

Mike and Nick .. How old is your Teen? Boy or girl? (14yo son here). This is the first time my son will be old enough for the "teen " club.... I am hoping he likes it.... he liked all of the other clubs.

Aunt Lynne....can we request the running donald for our ID tags please (changing mind)
thanks

Aaaaaaaaagh! :sad2: I just booked our dining reservations and they stink.

No Palo brunches available at all. No dinner available before 9 pm on non "special" dinner nights at sea (i.e. pirate, formal, etc.)

2 Questions:
Is there any more space for the group Palo brunch?
and
Does disney usually leave any reservations open for those booking onboard the ship?

I'm hoping that we'll be able to book a brunch b/c I REALLY wanted that (a lot more than dinner!) & I am so disappointed that we couldn't get anything :guilty:

I'd also like to change our reservation for dinner to something before 9pm

You should have no problem at all getting reservations when boarding. We have never had a problem booking or changing our date for that matter when boarding. If you go to Rockin Bar D after boarding they will take care of you. I don't think I have ever been in Palo when all the tables have been full either. I think DCL leaves a lot of tables off of the website booking. I know it is something you would rather just have booked, I am the same way. DH and I did brunch twice on the last TA and it was no problem. They did not even place us on a waiting list. They just gave us a date and time for the 2nd one. We could not booking anything before the cruise bc we booked so late so we did it all when we boarded.

I know many people talk about being put on a waiting list after boarding but this cruise is different then a normal 7 night that is packed in the summer. The last TA the ship was so empty that they had the 3 early seatings for the regular dinner and only 2 sets of late seating. Our early rotation did not have anyone coming into the restaurants after us. It was nice having extra time with our servers.

We were able to book dinner at Palo for the April 17 at 6:30. We could not do the tea.Hope to be able to do it on board.

I like to eat lobster but I don't like to think of where it comes from....I HATE seeing lobsters in a tank at a restaurant, it really skeeves me out.

Also Lynne, I am the only one in our party who will wear a lanyard. The donald name tag is fine, my name is spelled correctly, um and THANK YOU SO MUCH!

Thanks Stephanie. That really makes me feel better....I was feeling pretty down about this.

Since we're on the bus from wdw, we'll be on the ship a little later than others (probably around 1 or 2pm so I hear)...hopefully that won't be an issue.

Thanks again,
Liz

Hi Lynne,

I think I posted this before but it may have been while your were on vacation so I do it again. :goodvibes We would like two lanyards please. The names are Steve and Jen. We would both like Donald on the name tags please.

Thanks so much!:thumbsup2

No, no way, heck no, not over my dead body - can you tell I don't want to - :lmao:

At least that leaves one more lobster for someone else to enjoy.

FYI: Just in case anyone did not know - if you loose a Disney Dream Reward Card you can get them replaced. I had 92 points ($$) on one and cound notfind it for the life of me - I never activated it or anything so it is in my house somewhere - so I ordered a new one today with my new points to make sure I had the card for WDW/Cruise and found out that I could have my lost card replaced.

Also remember if you have a Disney reward VIsa to request your Dream Card if you need one many weeks in advance to allow time to get to you and don't forget to activate it before you leave home!

Here's what I thought when we started all this:

You will not have to sign up for FEs as a part of the team. I am not doing FE but am giving lanyards to fellow cruisers to add that touch of magic to their trips. I enjoyed having an attractive unifying marker to help connect with other dissers.

I just wanted an easier way to get the money together than trying to collect $2 from each person who wanted a lanyard. And some people might not have wanted to bother. I didn't sign up for one last cruise and was so sad when I got on the boat and didn't have one, especially when I went to the Meet & Greet and they all had one. Fortunately, someonw gave me one as an FE gift because they knew I wanted it.

Some people who are doing the lanyard team are using it as their FE gift (only or in addition to something else due to packing restrictions or other reasons).
Bottom line remains the same: You do not have to buy your lanyard and namw tag. You just need to let us know:

1. If you are absolutely sure you (or some part of your travel party) don't want a lanyard.

All four of us want them!

2. Which name tag you want - with or without Donald on the bottom over the ship & scroll.

lets be adventurous and go with the Donald ones

3. Whether or not your names are spelled correctly on the website (which is not up to date since I am on vacation).

All our names are spelled correctly on the cruiser list

4. The name we should call you.

You do not have to submit this again if you have PMd me or posted it.

Had lobster on our first cruise but not on any other - it was ok but would much rather have a good steak.

Now shrimp cocktail is another story - I can eat that all day long :)

ok off to take my son to the dr.

I think he may have broken his wrist/lower arm - we shall see - hopefully if he did he will get the cast off before our trip :)

This happened before the WB PC in 2008 but it was my daughter - had it taken off like 3 days before we left - thought we were going to have to do a waterproof cast - but it healed!

Have a great day everyone!

DCL makes only a fraction (reportedly 1/2) of the Palo reservations available on line in advance. The others are divided between those held by the concierge until the end of the embarkation day and those available in Rockin Bar D after boarding. I've never had a problem getting a reservation after boarding. Any reservations not used by concierge guests on the first day are released to the general population.

If you are not able to get what you want after boarding, ask to be placed on a wait list (they may not offer it to you!) People do cancel, especially on longer cruises.

Each adult sailing is allowed to make one of each type of reservation in advance or on the first day--one brunch, one tea, one dinner. You can request (on the first day or later by calling Palo) to be placed on a wait list for a second one--dinner, brunch or tea. This will NOT be granted on the first day as the policy then is to be sure that everyone had a fair chance at one reservation. Again, I've been able to get a second reservation by using the wait list system.

The cancellation policy for dinner is that you must cancel by 2 pm the day of your dinner or you will be charged for it UNLESS they can sell "your" spot to someone on the wait list. If someone else is able to use your table, you will not be charges.

They do not care who actually shows up for your reservation--for the family that has 4 adults in 2 linked cabins and booked DH with MIL and DW with father. They only care that you can show up and give them a cabin number with a corresponding KTTW card. Either room number will do the job.

Hello,

Anyone know of any good excursion outfits in Gibraltor they would recommend? We're interested in doing the cable car up to the Rock, touring around and then also seeing the Princess Caroline Battery and tunnels and stuff.

Not interested in the Barbaray Apes.

Also, I know in general that it is less expensive to go with a non-cruise line excursion. But wondering how the Disney arranged excursions compare both in pricing and in quality of excursion. Any personsal experiences / comparisons from the group?

High tea is basically supper - meat, fish ... served around 6 pm.

---Afternoon tea is served between lunch and usually late (8pm-ish) dinner. This is what Americans think of as "tea." That is what we'll be served.

Lynne - High Tea is scones, finger sandwiches, teas, desserts ... a social event popular with the BRIT's. High Tea is popular on Cunard as well as Holland America (I think). It isn't anything heavy, nor is it dinner, or in the evening.

QOTD: Have you ever eaten lobster? Will you partake of it if it is on one of our special dinners?
---BUT OF COURSE! Just make sure you do not make a rookie mistake, and try to remove the meat from the tail by yourself. On DCL, all entrees are served to everyone at the table. Then, the server comes around to remove the meat from the tail shell ... and the shell is removed. It's similar to the Lava Cake. It's served to you and the rest of the table, then the server comes back with the hot lava sauce.

Oh, if you have never order the Escargot ... make sure you do! I will only order this on DCL, as they prepare it oh so well. If overcooked, it's crap!

I've never had a problem getting a reservation after boarding.
Plus, with 14 nights on the Transatlantic, there should be much more availability.

Last September, on our 7-night on the Magic, there were three sea days. Brunch and High Tea were only on sea days.

But on the TA, there are eight sea days.

When we were on Holland America, High Tea is offered for free to all guests on all sea days in the main dining room.
