Upgrades ... not sure of the criteria behind who gets upgrades (other than oversold GTY staterooms) ... curious ...

1) For those who booked on DVC points ... please tell us whether you HAVE, or HAVE NOT received an upgrade. If so, what was your booked catagory - and what is your new category.

2) For those GOLD and PLATNUM Castaway Club members ... please tell us which Club level you are, and whether you HAVE, or HAVE NOT received an upgrade. If so, what was your booked catagory - and what is your new category.\

FIRST RESPONSE:
DVC POINTS: Neven been upgraded
GOLD CASTAWAY CLUB: Never received an upgrade on any DCL cruise

=======

I asked before but I am sure it got lost in the millions of posts.

Does anyone know if the concierge will help us check in for our flights or do we have to pay to use their internet?:confused3

So many posts. I am lost Thinking about joining this cruise and was looking to see list of other Disers going to see if anyone I know. Any idea where I might find it? Thanks for the help.

If you are staying in a suite, the concierge can check you in if you give them your flight info.

Categories 4-12 you have to pay and use the internet :)

Did not use DVC points for this cruise (probably never will) :3dglasses

We're Gold Castaway Club (soon to be Platinum) and this was our first upgrade (11 to a 6)

Hi ...Hope you decide to join ...this crew is FUN :)
anyhow...on the first page of this thread, 1st post, there is a link to a website Aunt Lynne made..it has a list of all of the cruisers screen names... under "eb cruisers"

I've been checking and rechecking to make sure the upgrade was still there.... and just realized something - does anyone know why there is no category 7?

I've checked and double checked. Triple and quadruple checked. Then repeated. Checked multiple websites too.

We booked two GTY 11 (inside).

We have room 6544 and Dan's brother and wife are in connecting 6546

Aren't those rooms Category 6 with verandahs? Seems like there are a few other upgrades from 11's to 6's, but since we are both DCL newbies I wasn't expecting much of an upgrade. I'll probably check 30 times tomorrow to make sure I'm not dreaming.

I want to believe it, but I don't want to get my hopes up. We did book in 2008, paid brochure price, have fuel surcharges still on our bill, bought air through DCL, etc...so maybe it's real. But I keep thinking every deck plan I look at is wrong.
Melissa

Good for you Melissa - I checked and those rooms are cat 6 deluxe verandah rooms :thumbsup2

I got upgraded to the Walt Suite!!!:woohoo: Oh wait then I woke up. :rolleyes1 boy that was a nice dream! :rotfl2:

LOL!!

Do any of you have a netbook and do you like it? Can it do enough on the go
:scared1:OMG..I am on it again at WORK...I better stop this....have to PAY for excursions.

(PS I seriously LOVE this Forum...all of it...opinions, feelings and cougar comments)

We have a netbook that we bought for travel only. It works very well but the smaller keyboard takes some getting used to....we like it.

Besides DISboards and cruisecritic, are there any other forums out there for DCL? Do the people from cruisecritic (or other) get together and wear matching lanyards, t-shirts?
- Lynne
There are lots of other cruise boards (like cruiseclues.com) but cruisecritic is the most active. Most cruise meets on cruise critic are less touchy feely than ours ;) Never seen a cruise critic meet w/ matching lanyards or shirts, but sometimes cruise critic meets are attended by officers and involve free cocktail receptions which is nice too.

Now for our upgrade news. We have been "upgraded" from a cat 12 to a cat 11, we're very pleased with our cabin location 6599 midship, so this is a good upgrade for us but it sounds like they're still doing the stateroom shuffle so who knows if this assignment is definite.

As for how & why of upgrades, a little birdie who used to work in the cruise industry told me that typically upgrades are based on 3 things -
1. Not your category but how much you paid for your cruise.
2. If you're a past passenger
3. When you booked (also relates to price)

I don't know if this is accurate, but I thought it might give a little peace of mind to those who are puzzling about upgrades. Lots of people are posting their upgrades but we aren't talking about how much we paid so its possible that some upgrades are due to higher initial costs.

As for us, as 1st time cruisers on dcl we didn't expect an upgrade at all. So we're happy with our change to cat 11 and our new location on deck 6.

I've been checking and rechecking to make sure the upgrade was still there.... and just realized something - does anyone know why there is no category 7?

I am not sure what you mean. Could you explain it differently? I was originally assigned a cat. 7.

Yeah I'm just such a momma's girl I go most everywhere with my family because I'm single still. Hey at least I'll have my cougar aunt on the ship :rotfl: and all the other cougars that will be around.

I too am grateful for all of the "single" girl company...I am hoping some of the cougars like to dance.... this cougar got a couple dances in with castmembers on the disco party night but otherwise.... had no dance buddies on the last cruise..... :banana:and of course man heckling at the pool won't hurt either:cool1: Not to say I didn't have a blast on all the cruises so far and the family time I have with my son is priceless :) But it will be a different ( I am anticipating good) experience for me with the dissers this time.

and because I work with people ...I do enjoy some of the solitude I get on the boat too.

hmmmm writing on disboards instead of writing my final paper

---This is NOT ACCEPTABLE! Nobody should have to worry, or be nervous about sailing solo! With that in mind, after extensive soul searching (within the past few minutes), I have made an executive decision to accompany you on the MED. Accordingly, you will have no qualms about traveling solo!

Hmmmm, this from the guy who want to "rate the cougars" from deck 10 and possibly throw stuff at us? ;) Not so sure your post is reassuring :rotfl:

Seriously, this will be my third solo cruise. I've had a blast the first two (and plan to on this one). There are several people doing the b2b so you will already know them. So it won't seem so much like sailing solo then. :thumbsup2

I think there was another neighbor somewhere these last pages???:confused3

Hi

Am new to this thread... and will be traveling along with all of you... I am very excited as we did the westbound trans the last time.

Got an upgrade from cat12 to cat 9 - right across from the laundry room on deck 2... so if you are there.... shhhhh :)

Dee47- I think you were on the 10 day holiday cruise with us in 2006?? Am I remembering this correctly??

I've been checking and rechecking to make sure the upgrade was still there.... and just realized something - does anyone know why there is no category 7?

If you booked and paid for a Category 7 cabin and wondering why you are assigned a Category 4 (8508) instead - it is because they are bumping people to better cabins (since they had a lot of empty cabins, we believe). If this is the case, your reservation may continue to say you are in a Cat 7 - and probably will since that is what you officially booked.

Yes, you have caught them in lies, but have you ever had a DCL supervisor call you "stupid", I get the prize for that one :)!

That's nothing. You should hear what I've been called at work by so-called customers (unruly, unmannered, disrepectful, no home training teens). None of which can be printed here :lmao:

Kristi

I was wondering if we could get a roll call of those who are traveling solo, single, or without family members (i.e. husbands and kids). Just curious.

Kristi - traveling solo (yeah, stateroom ALL to myself)

My kids and husband are staying at home and myself and 2 friends - in two cabins are going... I have never been away that long, but am looking forward to enjoying some adult time.

Denise

And those calendars would be a big THANK YOU to Stephanie (Brooklyn) who created them for her daughters and let the rest of us join in the fun!

- Lynne

YES THANK YOU STEPHANIE. and LYNNE the keeper of knowledge.

Hmmm... so far only females have responded to my post about solo's, singles, etc. (13 so far unless I suddenly can't count). Surely there are some male solo, singles, etc on this cruise.

Or are they too afraid to show themselves? :goodvibes
