(3X Update & FINAL!! 3/24)*~*EVERYBODY DANCE NOW!*~*A Mother/Daughter Feb 2013 TR!

Chapter 13: Danced-out-Miss-Crabby-pants?

Ah, the dawning of our 2nd day! Thursday, Feb. 7th! I woke a tiny bit later than usual (5:30?) and did my morning routine of writing up the previous day in my journal and heading down to the food court to get myself coffee. Sidebar here...did you know that Rey calls the Pop food court "the commissary"? I have no idea where this commissary thing came from, but just 2 days ago he was ranting about how he loved AKL but POP had the best commissary ever. I digress...

I was ready for AK! AK is Savannah's next favorite next to MK, so I was excited to get up and hit rope drop. Savannah, however, not so much. I started trying to get her up at 7am and she finally got up at 8 and was VERY grumpy. Seems all that dancing and staying up late repeatedly caught up to her. I did get her up though by repeatedly reminding her what it meant if we didn't get to RD. (nothing like threatening her with less EE rides and long lines to get her moving!) LOL.

She refused to eat or drink anything (uhoh) and schlumped to the bus stop with me. After failing to cheer her up, I did the next best thing...I took pictures and ignored her grumpy-non-disney-attitude, hoping it would just go away.
Disney2013739.jpg

I did see her crack a grin at the little girl holding this balloon. Savannah is a sucker for cute little kids...I'm a sucker for balloons!
Disney2013745.jpg

We didn't have to wait long and we were headed to AK! Got there before rope drop and everything!
Disney2013746.jpg

She was still clearly crabby, so I just busied myself with more pictures while we waited in the line to get in. We used the new RFID scanners, which seemed to confuse people and take a bit longer since they are ironing out the bumps.
Disney2013749.jpg

Savannah perked up a bit when we got in and started to see animals. It was still a little dark in the shade though and neither of us could get any great shots of the elusive little deer. See his ears peeking out?
Disney2013753.jpg

Up over the bridge we went, right in time for rope drop.
Disney2013759.jpg

Naturally I tilt the camera to get rid of the people in the shot...Ah...much better!
Disney2013761.jpg

Savannah was still dragging and I knew that she would completely melt down if I pushed her, so we went slow and I just enjoyed taking pictures.
Disney2013762.jpg

Disney2013764.jpg

I thought that taking pics with her camera might help, but she was getting frustrated with her camera and so it actually did the opposite!
Disney2013768.jpg

I LOVE the GROUND at AK.

Disney2013771.jpg

The theming is so perfect and the details even on the ground just make it so perfect. AK has become one of my favorite parks! I used to think it would be like a zoo, and I don't love zoos, but it's so much more. The details, the music...EXPEDITION EVEREST!!!!!! Best.Ride.Ever.

Disney2013772.jpg

I have an obsession with these lights, as you will see. I just love them and I did get the opportunity to see them just as they lit up later in the TR!
Disney2013775.jpg

We got to EE and grabbed FP's. We could have walked on, but I could tell that Savannah was not going for that. I was really trying to hold it together b/c she was still in a funk and I felt like we had so little time on this trip...and she was wasting it! BUT, I kept calm and suggested we go get her something to eat. That would make her feel better. On the way I got a few shots of the Tamarinds. It's so amazing how they balance and move up there!
Disney2013777.jpg

Disney2013778.jpg

This flower threatened a completely meltdown from Savannah. She was trying to get a shot of it, I took one with my camera, but she was trying to get too close to get the shot and the lens wouldn't focus. I took her camera and was trying to show her and she snapped at me that she was too tired for a lesson in how to work her stupid camera! :scared: Okey-dokey...straight to food it is! Let's get this girl something to eat.
Disney2013780.jpg

What's funny is that I snapped this shot and didn't even read the sign! I would have gotten something different if I had actually read it! I swear, sometimes I'm just blind when taking photos!
Disney2013781.jpg

I got us both the bounty platter (minus the meat) and she sat outside and waited at a table for me. This would be nice, we could sit and relax, I wasn't sweating all the people headed into the park, I had my FP for my favorites-ever-ride, so I was good! I sat down the food in front of her, she looked at it, and then me and said "I feel sick." WHAT?!?!?! :scared:

I could tell she didn't really feel sick, she just needed to eat, so I didn't react other than to tell her she would feel better after eating. I was so caught up in this moment, I didn't even get pics of our food? After I ate some of mine, I started taking a few more pictures, just so she would feel like she had some "mental space" from me watching over her. It really was a lovely morning, threatening with a few clouds, but a breeze and the perfect temps!
Disney2013782.jpg

Disney2013783.jpg

Disney2013785.jpg

Disney2013790.jpg

That was all it took! I gave her space, she got some french toast sticks and more importantly, SYRUP, in her, and BAM...all was right with the world! No, seriously. By the time she had finished, she had perked up and we were chatting about making sure we hit our next favorite attraction before rain hit! BTW, the food wasn't very good, neither of us really liked the french toast sticks on the platter, they were kind of bland...but whatever! They did the trick!

Happily back on track and ready for the day, we headed to our next destination!
Disney2013791.jpg

Up next...WOOT! No more poachers!

Was Rey in the military or something? :lmao: The only people I know who use that word in everyday life are military men! It might be fun to use the word “commissary” instead of “food court” just to mess with people  I think I’m gonna do that! Moving on… I’m going to have to remember to threaten my kids with long lines when we go to WDW. And myself for that matter! None of us are morning people and I am a tiny bit concerned we won’t be motivated to get to RD (which we have NEVER done) if we don’t have an ADR that morning. I’m glad you were able to get Savannah up! She sounds like my kids when they are grumpy first thing in the morning and having a low blood sugar moment! I’m glad the breakfast did the trick to perk her up! :thumbsup2 You took some really beautiful pictures in the meantime, though! I can’t wait to hear about the rest of your day!

No, he was never in the military...but, his Dad was, so maybe that's where it came from?!?! He refuses to call it anything else.

I am a die-hard RD person, but my family...they are slow. I think it was easier for us this time to hit RD b/c there were only two of us! In the past we would arrive 5-15 minutes late, although I didn't notice a difference in crowds. As long as you get there pretty close to RD, you are usually golden that first hour! :thumbsup2

Oh yeah.....that was a definite low blood sugar reaction. You should ask Victoria about that one. I once put her up against a wall because I hadn't eaten and she was annoying me. I didn't even realize it at the time until she said, "low blood sugar, Mom?" :lmao: Now it's funny, but it wasn't then. You think you are absolutely fine until you get reminded to eat. I get very ugly when my blood sugar is low. Maybe that's why I'm always eating candy & sugar --- I don't want to be ugly!! :flower3: Yeah, let's go with that! Sorry about that slow start, but I'm sure it's going to get better from here, right???

Your pics of AK are the best!!

You sound so good and patient. Good for you, me not so much. :) Glad the breakfast worked!

I have seen some of the shots from the Princess, but not a ton. Is there somewhere that people are posting them?!?!?

If you are on facebook, you can 'like' the RunDisney page and they post pictures from all the races... and when registration opens and all that fun stuff!

:wave2: Hey there! Didn't want you to think I ran off and left...but, well...I ran off and left! :lmao: Life got in the way around here for a bit and I haven't managed to make it to the DIS. I'm all caught up now though! :thumbsup2

I'm sorry to hear that your house was struck with the flu, but so glad that you are all feeling better now. Thankfully it happened AFTER your trip! :goodvibes

The dance party at DTD sounds like a blast. I would love to spend some extra time at DTD on our trip and maybe check out some of the cool stuff like this!

Sorry to hear about Miss Crabby Pants :rotfl2:...I happen to live with one (my DBF) and OH BOY....WATCH OUT if he's not yet awake or had his coffee...it's often a life threatening condition! :rotfl2:

Looking forward to hearing more about your AK day!

Yep, I had thought sleep would be our only issue on this trip b/c her sleep schedule was messed up before going, but she also doesn't eat in the morning a lot of the time and that actually made it worse for her. Once that food was in her she was fine!

I have liked RunDisney, I just haven't looked at all their photos, I guess I should go check it out!

Thanks! Yep, almost totally better here. My 18 year old ended up with an ear infection and still has a bit of a cough, but we're mostly over it! I'm glad to get back to normal around here. More coming right up on AK!

Chapter 14: Pixie dusted Safari!

When I left you, Savannah had JUST recovered from her morning-low-blood-sugar-grumpiness! It really was pretty instant once she got some food in her and we agreed that it was time to head to the Safari! We both loved the safari, but Savannah especially since she's a huge animal lover.

We headed over with the crowd, I was a little worried since we had spent time eating after grabbing EE fastpasses, but it was posted 10 minutes and I don't think it even took that long! Just walked right through! AND, as we were walking up, they asked how many and having 2 paid off AGAIN! We were sent to the last seat on the upcoming truck and I realized that since 2 is a more rare number, that we likely wouldn't have another group of 2 join us on that back seat. We had the whole thing to ourselves! Of course this might not be as exciting to some people as it was to us, we knew it meant no worries about getting the photos we wanted!

What a FANTASTIC Safari! It was the best we've been on and I'm SO glad that they took out the cheezy-poacher story. I like cheezy Disney stuff, don't get me wrong, but I think it's better suited for Jungle Cruise and I really felt more like they were letting us enjoy the animals more this way. LOTS of stopping...uh...and BUMPING...it's very bumpy in the back seat! Without further ado, the shots will fill this update, so here you have them!...

Last night Savannah actually got around to editing a couple of her shots and she actually got a few I didn't! She says this is Bob...

Don't ask, she names animals silly things! LOL. This is Steve...

She also got a shot of the alligators that I missed.

All was right in the World after seeing some animals! It was time to head straight to EE to use those fastpasses, and grab some MORE, naturally! Savannah seemed scared to ride, but she's ridden before...uh-oh! :scared:

Up next, will she brave Expedition Everest or will I go it alone??

Love your safari pics.....so, are you saying you like giraffes? I would have never known. You barely took any pictures of them. Oh, and I see my friend with his tongue out is part of the menagerie. Too cute! I am so glad that Savannah snapped out of her bad mood. In case that ever happens again, fruit juice is the quickest way to get sugar into her system. :thumbsup2

How were the crowds in AK? Did you find it crowded?

What wonderful pictures. I would have never guessed that you like giraffes. :confused3 The black and white shots are really cool and my favorite is the giraffe sticking his tongue out at you. Too cute!!!

Loving your TR and your photos !! Looking forward to more !!

My kids are like that, too, with the blood sugar thingy in the morning. Why is it so hard to get food in them ?? I can't WAIT to eat when I get out of bed !!

Yay for the hunger grumpies passing quickly!! Haha I always get like that too, DF knows very well to just give me food when I start getting grumpy! :rotfl:

I love your Safari shots, so cool! I especially love the ones of the giraffes, they're so expressive :goodvibes

Nice pictures. Food always makes you happy and food in Disney, oh ya you can't be grumpy after it.

and i had a bunch of other stuff to say but my disney ADD kicked in

All caught up again! Glad you're feeling better!

Man, the hunger grumps are never fun. I've had those, or well, mine probably more stem from just early morning grumps. But get a little food and coffee in me and I'm GOOD TO GO! Glad you were able to kind of figure out how to best handle it with Savannah though. :goodvibes

I LOVE YOUR SAFARI PHOTOOOOOS! Especially the ones of the giraffe and him just staring at you. They came out fabulous!

I sure hope you both get on EE, because that really is one of my favs!

Right? I'm sure you cannot tell I like Giraffes! :lmao: The crowds, as you will see in the next update, were FANTASTIC!!!!!!!! :woohoo:

Thanks! Yep, and naturally you don't see ALL the shots I actually took. I have no idea how many giraffe shots I had, but there were a lot! :p

Thanks! I can't wait to eat and have coffee when I wake up too. I don't know how she does it, but she'll go for hours without eating something. It's crazy!

Thank you!!!

Nice pictures. Food always makes you happy and food in Disney, oh ya you can't be grumpy after it.

Thanks! I'm even more eager to eat when at Disney, so it makes no sense to me that she didn't want to eat first thing...probably why I gain massive amounts of weight at Disney! :p

Great Safari pics!!! And glad the grumpies went away with food!

Thanks! Me too! I was relieved, I thought she might stay crabby all day!

Just found your TR and so glad I did! I will be following along and reading your past TRs.

Your photos of POFQ have convinced me to reconsider it. It looks lovely! Also love the photo of the pink blooming tree in DTD!!!
