We need ideas...quick! My dd9 is doing an Economic project in class. She has to think of an item to sell (jewlery, stress ball, picture frame, playdough) and submit a plan of how she will make the project, what it will cost, etc. Make a poster advertising the item. And finally sell the project in a store. It can cost no more than $1.00

She doesn't want to do the above mentioned items. She had her heart set on a lava lamp. We just made one and well, it wasn't that great!

Anyone have a cheap, easy idea? Thanks!

Ok this sounds kinda wierd but I made this when I was in 7th grade. You know those Spinning (Twirling) Lollipops?.... I attached a Plastic Fork to the end of it. Wierd I know. The purpose of the product was to be used when eating spaghetti. You just push a button and the fork does the work for you. I recieved an A for the project especially since it was very creative.

Oh I didn't see the part about under $1...hmmm

What about a heating pad. Sew some frabic into a rectangle add rice. Have instructions for heating the product. That would be super cheap especially if you had old sheets or fabric laying around.

We just did a stretchy bracelet. Luckily that's what DD chose to do.

I make jewelry for fun so I had all the stuff at home. She had to make the item as part of her display and do all the other stuff.

I just noticed you said she had to sell it in a store? For real? We didn't have to do that.

I like the "flavored toothpick" idea. THOSE were SO popular with the boys when I was in middle school. :rotfl:

You can buy bottles of "flavoring", and toothpicks are cheap. There could be "cinnamon", "bubble gum", "spearmint", etc, flavored toothpicks. You could buy colored toothpicks to match the "flavor".

Or, beaded bracelets.

Here are some ideas from another forum: http://ask.metafilter.com/148866/Help-give-my-third-grade-son-ideas-for-a-fun-school-project Rock candy looks really easy!

I think anything involving candy would do well. Maybe fabric bags from Walmart remnants (glue the seams with fabric glue -- it would be a simple rectangle to cut, fold and seal) and put candy in plastic bags, put in the cloth bag - close with a ribbon or string.

My dd had to do that way back when.

Anything that is a "collection" is good. Pet rocks that are painted with faces, puff balls with feet and googlie eyes, or something else "cute" that you can make.

Hot glue it to a clothespin so people can "wear it" on their clothes, purses, backpacks, etc.

Most important thing is to NAME IT with a tag of some sort and have people "adopt" the "pet". Make up an "adoption paper" and print it out.

Anyway just throwing that out there. Maybe you can find something of use there.:thumbsup2

Maybe make a game (like Bingo) but have it geared towards the school./common interests. Use teachers, rooms, kids in the class, sports stars, celebs. etc? Maybe you could print them out and laminate them or something?
IDK, anything that incorporates the kids is usually a biggie.

friendship bracelets, the kind that are just tied with embroidery floss I think. Those are popular. Like this but thinner:

My middle son made those things with paper that you do the "1,2,3 or 4" and then choose a color, then it opens to reveal something.

Youngest made hemp bracelets, those are simple and just take time. You can buy inexpensive beads to put on them and just use a slip type knot for the closure.

Ha! That is a cool idea.:thumbsup2

DD did something like this last year and baked chocolate chip cookies. She put three cookies in a ziploc container and sold them for $1 a bag.

Yup, had this project when the kids were small. The things that were candy were popular. Also, as The Mystery Machine said, things with googly eyes were a bit hit.:thumbsup2

Thanks for the replies. Yes she has to actually sell them to the younger grades of the school. Although the candy and cookie ideas were great, no food allowed.
She ended up picking the pompom "creatures". We choose that before reading the idea here. I do like the tag and adopting them. Have to talk to her about that.

Now to work on poster and commercial....I could easily do without this type of project!

Thanks for the help.
