3M-style Hooks for Hanging Heavy Things

I want to hang some heavy stuff on my walls, but I know there's ductwork directly behind the drywall. The 3M hooks only seem to hold 10 pounds, and they don't recommend using 2 together to hold 20 pounds, etc. Does anyone know of other products that will hold heaver items (50 pounds or so) on the wall without putting anchor bolts in there, or otherwise putting holes through the drywall?

I doubt it.

I wouldn't trust something simply "sticky" to hold up 50lbs. I would think that would risk ripping the drywall! And that would be a tougher fix than filling in an anchor hole and adding a little paint!

There has to be studs every 16"...so you might just have to position whatever you are hanging so that you can anchor it to the stud.

Do you have crown molding? If so, you can use wire hanging systems that anchor to it. (This is how museums and galleries often hang large paintings.)

The most secure way to hang something heavy on drywall is directly into the wall studs.

I agree. It is really only a sticky glue TAPE that is holding the 3M hook to the wall.

And while in theory, it seems like, if you hang 2 on the wall, the weight would be distributed, but, it doesn't work that way. Each one still only holds 10 lbs. before the sticky glue pulls away. You would just have 2 or 3 pulling off the wall. It is not the same as a screw threaded and embedded into a metal or wooden stud.
