Anyone thinking they might get a better deal on a Nintendo 3DS after Thanksgiving?

I saw that Target.com has it for $169.99 with a $25 gift card with purchase. Do you think this will be the best deal before Christmas?

That sounds like an incredible deal, not sure they can go much lower. I bought my son one for graduation and paid the $249.00 price. What a downer when I heard about the price reduction only a few months later.

My mom just got that deal at Target a few weeks ago. Her DS broke awhile back. Then she decided to trade it with my daughter for her Dsi. Lucky DD!

See I was thinking the opposite. I wish I would have bought one before the price drop. You get 20 free downloadable expensive games because of the drop. If your child hasn't already claimed it, you guys should look into it. My son really wants one of these so it may be a Christmas gift.

They've been running that regular price with a free game deal at several stores for a while. So I'd imagine that it will have better deals as we approach the holidays. The games I've seen for free were in that same dollar range so that deal isn't going to have me rushing out to purchase. Good luck with your decision/purchase.

Nintendo is dropping the price on its 3DS handset from $249 to $169.99. The cut will take effect on August 12, but early 3DS adopters shouldn't fret – as long as you've connected to the Nintendo eShop at least once by August 11, you'll get a total of 20 free downloadable games.

Before you buy one, really look into the reviews. From what I hear the price drop has to do with the fact that it is a horrible system.

OP, I would be surprised to see a better deal on the system itself any time soon since the price dropped so recently. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see some good prices on different bundles over the next month or so, since several highly anticipated games are coming out soon. I don't know whether they'd end up being a better deal over all than the current one, but it's possible you'd be able to get a comparable deal that also included some cute game-themed accessories of some kind.

Most of the negative reviews that I've seen had more to do with the lack of good games than the system itself. Some people aren't wild about the 3D aspect (or the fact that kids aren't supposed to use the 3D for extended periods of time), but once you turn that off the screen looks just like the one on the DSi. Most gaming and tech sites sound pretty excited about the 3DS at this point, since lots of major games are coming out over the next few months. For most people who already have a DSi, it might not be worth buying a 3DS quite yet simply because the games aren't really there yet. But for someone who wants one of the games coming out in the next month or so, or someone who doesn't have a DS or DSi and hasn't yet enjoyed the games that were made for those systems (which will work on the 3DS), the 3DS is a good choice.

Thanks for all of the advice. DS10 has a DSi and he loves it. I like the idea of the 3DS because it will stream netflix.

DS10 has a birthday next month so I'm thinking about it - and since our budget is tight I want to make sure I get the best deal.

I'm not too worried about the bad reviews. My dses played around with one in Target and they really like the 3D aspect of the Zelda game, and they are beyond excited that there will be Mario games out for it. They both have DSLites so they are ready for an upgraded system, their sister has the DSi that they have played with but their choice was still the 3DS.

You can do this deal online so using a rebate site will save you alittle more. I think there will be some bundle deals especially when Mario kart comes out and there will probably be more GC with purchase promos but I don't know if they would be more than $25. Maybe on BF there will be a bonus like Target usually gives out $10 bonus GCs when purchasing stuff, during certain hours.
I have one on layaway so taking advanatge of this won't save me any money since I'd have to pay a fee to cancel but if I didn't, I'd jump on this deal now.
