I just bought my boyfriend a 3D TV for Christmas. I was expensive for me and now I am second guessing myself. He is really into gadgets and has been looking at these TVs for months. It's going to be a Wow gift. Problem is I don't know much about them.

This is what I ordered It's a Sony bravia 46 inch LED 3D

Is this a good TV? Besides the glasses and a 3D movie, do we need anything else.

Now here is where I get confused I can't tell what's different about this one except the price

I also need to know about the glasses. Of course the TV doesn't come with them (WHY do they do that) and I find it interesting that QVC doesn't sell any Sony glasses. Will any brand work?

We already have a PS3 so I am going to sell the one I get with this deal too offset the cost of the TV and I am also selling my 42 LCD Vizio to help make this more affordable for me.

I figured someone out there knows about them and can help me not be so worried that I bought the wrong thing.

You're pretty safe with a Sony, but I suggest you look at ordering directly from Sony.

They have the more expensive model (including the free PS3) you linked to for the same price as QVC, but they also include a free 3D starter kit which includes two pair of glasses & a copy of Alice In Wonderland.

The cheaper model you looked at is $1749.46 + $99 shipping....$1848.46
The same model(also bundled with the PS3) is $1699.99 and Sony offers free shipping, so you'd be saving $150.

Wow! That is a very expensive gift for a boyfriend. :scared1:

Sony is awesome, but try to stay all Sony.

If you have to sell off stuff to afford a gift, I would say you are spending too much money.

It is a nice gift however I hope you are getting a diamond necklace or something?;)

It's pretty good. It's not in the top tier of televisions available today, but it is also not in the third tier. It is firmly a second-tier television - a good value. Decent quality and reliability, not stellar (like Panasonic, Samsung and LG would be), and not inferior (like Mitsubishi, Insignia and Vizio would be).

Besides the glasses and a 3D movie, do we need anything else.
I wouldn't get utterly caught up in the 3D thing. Yeah, get a 3D movie or two, and enjoy this new feature, but most of the time you're going to be using the television to watch 2D, and that's okay. 3D is just a feature, like picture-in-picture, and like mute.

The more expensive television has a wireless adapter built-in ("Built-in WiFi"), while the less expensive television does not ("WiFi adapter-ready").

There might be other differences like that.

I also need to know about the glasses. Of course the TV doesn't come with them (WHY do they do that)
At least in part because not everyone cares for 3D - just like not everyone is going to care about Wi-Fi. These less expensive televisions let people have great televisions for a lower price than if they came with all the extras.

and I find it interesting that QVC doesn't sell any Sony glasses. Will any brand work?
No. Stick with the glasses made for your television.

I don't have to sell stuff to get it but it's brings the price down.....I call that girl math.

Yes, I will be getting an equally awesome gift or gifts, we tend to really blow it out at Christmas with wow gifts.

Thanks so much for the information.

Agreed with Bicker, each manufacturer is doing 3D differently right now, and you need to stay with the same one for the glasses, etc.

IMO, TV in 3D doesn't interest me that much, but the fact that the PS3 is capable of it and games like Gran Turismo are 3D compatible could make it more fun.

Lucky boyfriend. DW and I have been together 30 years (28 married) and we have never spent $1700 on a gift for the other.
And I'm afraid that's about 3 times what I would pay for any TV.

$1700 isn't out of the ordinary for a television plus game console package, these days. It depends on what you want. If your desires are small, then you can pay less and get something less.

Or other source of 3D transmissions. Some cable companies provide cable boxes, and access to special television channels, that support 3D.

OK, I'd like to nominate DisneyScraps as BEST.GIRLFRIEND.EVER.:thumbsup2

I just want the $300 50" HD TV I was promised back in the late 1990's when the digital tv switch was first proposed.

I'd go after the person who promised you that - hold that person to that promise.

No one promised me any such thing.
