Hi all, wondering if anyone has had any experience with the 3D ds. My child has not asked for this, nor in fact for anything else. She plays with her ds lite all the time. I would like to know some pro's and con's from the people on the board before I purchase. Also, who has it at the best price. TIA

We bought them for both of my boys when it first came out. My oldest (9) has played his, but he likes using the Action Replay for cheats and it does not work on the 3DS right now, so I find that he still uses his DSi more than the 3DS. My youngest (6) doesn't really like the 3D option, so he turns it off most of the time!
I do expect that they will play with them more after Christmas because they are getting the new Mario Kart and Super Mario games as gifts. I think the main issue has been that there weren't too many games available that they wanted. I know there are some more games they want coming out next year.
As for price, it seems that most stores are selling it for around $169, which is much better than what we paid ($249)!

I was in the same situation as you--my DS6 loves his DS lite & uses it a lot. He did put a 3DS on his list but I wouldn't consider it until I found out you could turn off the 3d feature. So I ended up going the 3DS route since that seems to be how all the new games are coming--he loves Mario & I got the bundle that included Marioland 3d for $169 on Thanksgiving day. I know Mario Kart 7 will be a huge hit too!

Good luck finding a great deal!

You didn't say how old your child was. However, since she hasn't asked for a 3Ds or shown interest in it, it sounds like you are trying to come up with a big gift for her. Have you thought about an itouch?

My kids barely touched their Dsi's once they had the iTouch. We use the itouchs a ton. Music, apps, movies, etc. No longer do we have to buy $30 games that are easily misplaced. Lots of games are free or $1.

For me there isn't enough difference between a DSi and 3Ds to justify buying another DS until the ones they have die.

My son bought a 3D-DS for my grandson who is 6 and when he got it home he read the directions which state that the 3D should not be used if the child is under 10 years old. It distorts the growing eye and could cause sight problems.
He turns off the 3D and plays it but not as often as he plays his WII. If you travel alot and do alot of driving I would go for a hand held but if it is for home go for the one hooked up to the TV
