Hi Gang

Just wanted to share my excitement (yeah, yeah, I'm easily excited). We're 33 points away from getting 5 free nights at the Swan or Dolphin. Oh, yeah! :)

I'm not sure exactly when we are going but it'll be in 2008 for sure! I'd like to tack this on to some other nights that we'd pay for but we'll see what the budget says. We're thinking a few nights at the Beach Club and then the free nights at the Dolphin. Again we'll see. I can't wait to spring this on our kids DS7 and DD3 days before the trip!

SPG points are "Starwood Perferred Guest" points. When you stay at a Starwood hotel or property you get these SPG points. The Swan and Dolphin are owned by Starwood along with the Sheraton and Westin hotel chains and others too. You can also get an AMEX or MasterCard SPG card as well that helps accumulate points too.

We ended up getting the MasterCard. This gave us 5000 points to start and then we got another 5000 points at our first stay at a Starwood property. We get 3 points for every US dollar spent at a stay plus if you pay with your SPG card you get another point for every 2 dollars spent. So it adds up pretty quick.

We're pretty happy with it. Especially for us being from Canada there really isn't any Disney cards or special offers to help with a trip. Check out www.spg.com if you're interested.

Hi Andy,

We always have a ton of points but I can never get a night without spending 10,000 points. How did you manage to get 5 nights for < 10,000/night, you lucky dog? Susan

I'm not Andy, but when you stay 4 nights using points, you get the 5th night free.

I just transferred 20,000 Starwood points to American Airlines last night, and Starwood added a 5,000-mile bonus. That's a free domestic plane ticket!

:thumbsup2  Andy!!

I am closing in on 15K spg points and dreaming of free nights at the S/D.

Hi Susan

Nancy's right. When you spend 40,000 points at the Swan or Dolphin to get 4 free nights, they add an extra night for free. It's one of the programs at SPG. For us that's pretty awesome as that would be what about $1500 US (more for us Canadian's) for 5 nights!

Hi Mouseteacher

That rocks!! 15,000 points you're definitely on your way. Can't wait 'till you get closer to that 40K mark ;)

It's funny now we try and stay at a Starwood property not only for the points but when we got the MasterCard we became spg gold members. So when we stay at a hotel we are automatically upgraded on checkin. I just make sure and ask if there are any upgrades available. When we stayed at the Toronoto airport Sheraton last time we went to WDW, we were automatically upgraded to their club level. I didn't even have to ask. Our kids love that. I was also in Colorado Springs on a business trip last June and again without asking I was upgraded their club level with a nice room and "free" food. :)

Hey bab31

You should switch your Amex to a Starwood Amex. Unless of course you use the Amex points for something good. From what I understand the point ratio given with the Starwood Amex is even better than the MasterCard. Plus I think you get more points when you first sign up (10,000 maybe?).
