So what should I do, for my parents who are celebrating their 35th wedding anniversary?

DH and I will be celebrating our 35th wedding anniversary in September, and I don't expect anything from our kids except maybe a card or a phone call.

To me, a 35th isn't as important as a 25th or 50th. I wouldn't expect a party or big gift or anything of that nature.

I agree.

And I dont think kids should be expected to host a party for any Anniversary-except the 50th:)

My parents are celebrating their 40th this year. They are not "party" people, so my sister and I chose to rent a beach house for a week that all of us are going to for their anniversary vacation. It has four bedrooms and four baths which is great for the nine of us. My parents are getting the "master" bedroom. This way, we got to do something nice for them, but it's not horribly out of our budget because it's one of our vacations too. They are very excited about it.

Hey - we have our 35th in Sept. too! (on the 13th).
I'd like it if we went out to dinner with our kids and they paid!

Perhaps not expected but some children might want to show their love and appreciation before the 50th. :)

We threw a 40th Anniversary party for my in-laws. They certainly did not expect it, but I believe they appreciated both the love we demonstrated and seeing many of their old friends again.

We thought their many years of marriage were worth celebrating and (although this was not stressed) my MIL had just been diagnosed with Progressive Bulbar Palsy (PBP). If we had waited for their 45th, she would no longer have been able to communicate with speech and would not physically have been up to a party. She passed away well before their 50th Anniversary. I'm glad we did not wait.

I guess it would depend on what kind of party" people they are....
If they are, you could have a cookout - or just take them to dinner at a restaurant of their choice...send them on a little get away vacation...I agree about a nice get together before their 50th! Any anniversary is a reason to celebrate!!!! :goodvibes

I know that in my situation I wouldn't give a party or anything b/c my parents have this thing about we HAVE to wish them happy anniversary and if we don;t they will text us till we call. Then if we still don't they will call and tell us how hurt they are and blah, blah, blah. including our spouses they have to call separately to tell them happy anniversary too!

But if you want to do something I'd have a small bbq or something and save the big party for their 50th or something. :goodvibes

I would be celebrating my 37th in June but I'm getting a divorce instead

How wonderful that you did the party when you did instead of following the conventions of the 50th. Make wonderful memories whenever you can.
