34 points for one night

So background is, we just joined dvc in January. This will be our first trip with points. We are going on the Dream in October, not on points. I booked Saturday night in a 1 bedroom at bwv. There were no studios available. It is going to cost 34 points. That sounds like alot. Is that really bad? What are other options?

I think for 1 night, I would get something at a value resort and waitlist for a studio. You won't be there long enough to really enjoy the 1 bedroom, unless there are more than 2 of you, and then, well, the extra sleeping room is worth something to me.

You could always look at other resorts, like OKW or SSR for a studio. The points there would be much less. It might be hard to find a studio on a Saturday in October for this year because it is F&W and weekends are very popular. BWV would be great if you plan on walking over to Epcot to sample some of the offerings at F&W, but if you're not going to a park, I would try to find a cheaper points option. Just make sure that if the option is cheaper, it's not so close to your check in that your points go into holding.

That's true, for you to be at the BWV for a Saturday in October, you are lucky. There are lots of F&W things going on, including the concerts. It could be worth it for the convenience of the location.

I look at it this way, I bought my DVC and I am going to use it as much as I can. I travel to Orlando 3 times a yesar for business and I always take a mental health day at one of the DVC resorts. I figure I already spent a lot of money and I am not going to spend more cah on a room when I have points to use. I may be in a different situation then you since we own 550 points and we have been banking lately and have to use points each year.

If you are only staying 1 night, then remember your room might not be available until 4pm that day and then you have to check out the next day around 11am. So (unless you plan to use the pool and make that your main focus) you are paying for going back to the room at night.

If it were me i'd stay another place (either less points for 2 nights or pay money for a value resort and bank the points)

I suppose that's because maybe you live around WDW. I know the night before a DCL cruise, we stay at WDW! We're doing that in September, and it's not even DCL, its RCCL!

It looks like you are booking for a Friday/Saturday so the rate per night is higher. Since I don't know your UY, can you still bank the points used for this reservation? If you can I think like the other posters have stated I would do a cash stay instead and give up the 1BR unless you really need all that space. An OKW 1BR would only be 27 points for October, AKV standard view is 25 points, a value is even less but very difficult to get so late. I doubt this late in October you'll have a lot of options for switching to another resort unless it's a cash reservation. BTW at AKV a studio would run you 14 points if you can get one this late.

us too, cannot imagine being so close to the world & not stopping in for a visit both pre & post cruise if out of PC or TPA

Get a DTD hotel. You can still go to the parks, you can hit DTD, you can do it all and save money. Or try the Swan or Dolphin. Maybe you'll qualify for some discounted rate.

Ok to further complicate things, annual passholder discounts came out for that night. We can get 40% off boardwalk standard room for about $250.00. The only negative is that we get 30 fast passes if we check in using points. Are the 30 fp worth the points?

It was one of the incentives when we purchased. We get 30 fast passes for three years, every time we check in on points. I figured with it being f & w, fast passes were the one way we would get to ride things.
